Latest purchase: a second set of Shimano A530 pedals for my other bike.
One before that (not counting tools & cleaners) is a quiet, low-key jersey (ha ha):

I got my FSA Omega handlebars in the post. Considering they are (I think) the cheapest bars Wiggle sells, they are amazing value, and good enough to be standard on the Focus Cayo Expert. When I get a bit of confidence I intend to replace the massive heavy long Bonty bars on the Trek with them.

I'm keeping an eye on Toupe saddles on eBay but they're all going for about £55, even the second hand ones.

Are there any bargain shoes and pedals to be had out there?

But they're well worth it, I promise you.

Last year I decided to sort out my saddle pains once and for all and I realised the only way to do it was to try a load of saddles. I decided to just buy everything I wanted to try second-hand on ebay as cheaply as possible (wasn't fussed if it was a funny colour or dirty because I was more than happy to shell out for a better/brand new version if I found a truly comfy saddle) and then sell the ones I didn't like again on eBay for the same money (or more, in one case).

For obvious reasons this meant lots of saddle buying so I left the expensive ones until last but when that Toupe finally arrived, man... Well it blew the others out of the water and I'm still using it to this day.

I don't really understand how something that looks pretty much the same as every other saddle can be so different but whatever, I'm just happy to have ended my quest for comfort.

I appreciate that this doesn't guarantee you'll get the same comfort since everyone is different but the Toupe seems to have a higher 'hit rate' among saddle-seekers from what I can tell.

Take the plunge, and don't bother with the gel version.

I forgot to post on here that I bought a Spec Singlecross with an additional 16t fixed cog for when I get powerful enough to use it in the hills around here. I can't wait to give it a go. I shall be leaving the cross tyres on so that I can hit the bridleways on route home.

It's always great when a friend tells you they've bought a bike.

Then you ask which bike they bought.

    Ah well.

Saddles are a very personal thing.I got a toupe on my new bike and I found it good for about 20 miles and then I just couldn`t sit down anymore,it was agony,I hated it.I gave it a few rides but it got no better so on went another Fizik Arione which never gives me discomfort.

Giant SCR 1.5 from Wiggle for £509, which includes £50 of 'free' stuff that I chose from the website to bring it up to my own personal 'on-the-road' spec. Probably a bargain!
