DHB Bibtights from Wiggle and SealSkinz Ultra grip gloves from Chain Reaction. Both because I just got back from South America and realised how bloody cold it is here and how unequipped for winter cycling I am.

Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.

Me too! But because I'm a girl and am developing a dark-coloured colour-scheme, I went for this:

Some carbon bars and new gear cables.

But using my LBS to fit them as I'm too busy (and I'd make a mess of it)

Plus some cycling boxer shorts (Altura)
  • lots of Clif Bars and some Merino glove liners ready for tomorrow's double-Mary Townley.
(And a bottle of Talisker for afterwards)

  • I haven't really bought it, but I made it. I surppose I bought the material if that counts?

Custom homemade Messenger bag (colour of bag matches bike!) It even has a spoon holder so when I take my spoon to work (so I can have my soup) I don't lose it in my bag!

    And all for about £13.00

(It's made from a camping ground sheet and a Workmans tool belt and some other bits.)

Just had the call back from the LBS - as well as the carbon bars, it needs (having done 3000 miles without missing a beat) - new front shifter (upgrading from X-7 to X-9), new rear cassette, new chain, new cables (upgrading to XTR) - YIKES!

LiT - I knew it was starting to wear - I just needed to know which bits were wearing out.
Could have been worse - could have easily been the front and rear mechs AND the chainrings too!

Been a loyal customer for ages so they don't mess me about - it was me that wanted upgrades - they suggest staying at the same level of kit!

    Tesco Water Bottle £1.47
    Tesco Tube £1.86 (I think)

Obviously the purchase of a spare tube guarantees a visit from the puncture fairy

The way to guarantee that you'll never get a puncture is to buy a whole load of tubes in bulk. Hope this helps.

Yep, guaranteed. Had a load of short valved tubes and had no unscheduled deflations on the geared bikes for ages. Punctured on the Pearson which needed a long valve... now laid in a stock of those

  • I seem to have posted on here a couple of times now - must stop buying stuff!!

Tuesday night's interweb retail therapy session (I'm singlehandedly on a campaign to kick-start the economy) was Ronhill Bikester DXB's, Endura Baa-Baa Merino wool top and sealskinz thermal liners as the gloves themselves are poo!!!

For the last two winter's I've been riding with tracky bottoms over might bib-tigths so I though I'd treat myself to RH's.

Now I've realised I need a small rucksack for winter cycling (no bum-bag on my winter hack).

That reminds me, must call the wife to see if they've arrived. I left my Landy blocking her in on the drive this morning so she couldn't go out and miss my delivery. There'll be trouble!!

  • Finally spent my Halfords Cycle to Work voucher on a 2008 Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo. I got it at a reduced price and from a proper bike shop that made sure the size was right for me. I pick it up tomorrow as they wanted to prep it properly for me. :D

So yes, you can use a Halfords C2W voucher at certain bike shops.
Yes, you can get bikes like Trek and Gary Fisher that Halfords cannot.
Yes, you can get a sale priced bike.

My only "problem" now is that because I spent less on the bike than I expected I have to figure out how to spend the extra money I now have for accessories. :D
