Teeth has got it in one - The Red Sea where I'll be in 2 days time!

Getting well giddy about it now, think we are going to buy a decent underwater camera, I am praying I get some good pics of sting-rays or hammer heads, they are common over there I think but not sure if at this time of year? Also not really sure on the diving at all over there, I know theres a dive school on the hotel, have to check it out 1st thing.

Think I might be just dreaming about the rays and sharks, if I get the option to see them I'll definately do it.
  • Well here I am with only 6 hours to go till I get up to drive to the airport - I can not wait to go. Its 38 degrees there now, weather looks great.

There has been talk of me doing my PADI diving quals, but not sure how much truth there is in that!

also - As if Robinho is going to Man City!!! we all knew Berbatov was going to Man U.

have a good hol, make sure we see some pics on your return.

also, the only football talk should be about the mighty potters return to the top flight
  • OK We got back in one piece! Here are some of the diving pics, it was really windy and visibility was OK underwater, but the pictures aren't as good as I'd hoped. Plus the camera was an absolute crock!

This is a moray eel, this thing was friggin' massive, about 2M and it looked as thick as a tree!!

    CNV00022.jpg

This one was scary as hell - He is looking straight at me!

    CNV00021.jpg

This is a Pearly/White Moray, a lot smaller than the first one!

    CNV00018.jpg

This is me and the wife - It was her first time diving, she enjoyed it but I don't reckon she'll do it again!!

    CNV00005.jpg

This is a small stingray - I was so pleased to see one of these

    CNV00013.jpg

These are just some random shots - I had 3 cameras worth but only these few were any good.

    CNV00013-1.jpg

    CNV00008.jpg

The huge Moray was on the very last dive - Also we saw a big turtle on top of the water, we were still in the boat when we saw him. And the one I most wanted to see was the Manta-Ray, and I saw one on the last dive, it was quite a way away but the dive guy saw it and pointed it out, we hotfooted it over to see it but it legged it. Next time I'll get me a better camera!!

The rest of the hol was great - Temperature above 35 every day, all in all I got in 6 separate dives, I was knackered!!

We also got this, this is the moon through a telescope in the middle of the desert, we went on this jeep safari thing, was pretty cool, bombing through the desert with this crazy Egyptian driving!!!

Oh yeah and we also went to Cafe d'el Mar, and to the Ministry of sound beach-nightclub. This was awesome, if you are as old as me! You'll remember a group called K-Class in the 90's, so they were dj-ing and doing their stuff, and the whole club was on the beach-front, quality.

The last time I finshed work at 8PM it was light, not yesterday though! My how the seasons change.

Does it get darker in winter in all countries? Like in the US does it happen?

Can't say it's bothering me too much at the moment, I suppose I've just been waiting for all the people who have been living on credit for the last few years to wake up and smell the coffee (government included).

Just hope when they get the shock of their lives it doesn't hit the rest of us who've been more careful but it probably will

Nice diving pictures, couldn't see them properly at work. It's really annoying how the colours get muted, same happened to all the pics I've taken. If you ever get the chance go diving in the Maldives (well expensive, do it on the credit card  ), loads of manta wrays and small sharks (6ft ones).

^ thought you'd been quiet recently.

It's been brill here today, almost felt sumer lie this afternoon. Took my 4 year old to the park this afternoon, tried her (on her bike) without stabilisers for the first time, not good,    .

I'm not feeling great either so gave up fairly quickly, didn't want to end up shouting at her.

Weather looks good for tomorrow too, early night tonight and I might just get a ride in tomorrow.

i do a fair bit of instructing at work but avoid trying to teach people i like anything atall, i find folk who arent paid to listen to me dont like my approach to teaching :?

that said, teaching your nipper to ride is very much the job of a father, good luck.
  • I've just been out up to the moors around Todmorden. I went in the car on Sunday to check it out alittle and it looked OK. I went today on the bike on it wasn't what I expected really, nevermind.

Plus I came off twice, firstly my front wheel disappeared down a massive hole in the ground, which was totally covered with grass and I had no way of spotting it - look!

    23092008284.jpg

    23092008285.jpg

Plus I caught my leg on the top of the forks - 'tis only a flesh wound I know.

  • AND I must have whacked my thumb when I fell off the second time, it friggin' hurts LOTS. Its swollen to hell.
  • So after a 4 hour stint in Leeds A & E It has been confirmed that I have suspected ligamet damage in my left thumb, great. I have to drive on Saturday, which I should be able to do, hopefully? It should be OK.

So theres this UK rally thing I'm off to at Dalby on Saturday - should be a laugh!

Where abouts above Tod, my local trails, some really good riding if you don't mind the hills

That said I thought I'd try a new route on my doorstep planned off map, the cheeky trail bit was OK if a little slippy, got onto a bridleway I hadn't ridden before, looked great on the map and google earth, wasn't so great on the ground, didn't help I was riding like a total tool, fell off down an 8ft bank, carry loop on my camelback caught around my rear wheel quick release so when I stood up I had a bike hanging off me  , didn't occur to me to take the camelback off, must've looked a right tw*t trying to dislodge the bike. Lost my trip computer when I crashed, didn't notice for 20 mins so then had to turn around and go back looking for it. Did actually find it in the bottom of the ditch which was a bonus.

The ride went downhill from there, next new bit was a BOAT (Byway Open to All Traffic), disastor, 6ft high stinging nettles and bog, won't be riding that again.

  • I went from the train station and rode all the way up to Flower scar road, those hills are friggin' steep!

I went to check it out on Sunday in the car, we walked right up to the top and I could see flower scar road heading off into the hills, I thought it'd be a good ride and go on for ages. It didn't however and I was a bit miffed.
Anyway I found some woods, tinshill I think, and thats where I came off TWICE!
I ended up in Cornholme, and then rode to Hebden Bridge on the road so I could get the train straight to Dewsbury, and go home to nurse my wounds!!!

Is there some good riding to be had somewhere up there?

Yep, you must've been about a mile from my house when you got to the end of Flower scar road (and yes the hills are bl**dy steep). When you get to end you need to turn right (where it comes back to the road), a track continues along the ridge until you get to a farm, go through the farm yard (it's a bridleway) and continue on the track up to Thievely Pike trig point, by this point it's turned into good singletrack. Comes out in a big field, head along the wall and next to the road there is a track (runs parrallel to the road), this is part of the MTL. This takes you all the way back down into the valley and up the other side to the windfarm above Cliviger. Form there there is a cheeky trail back down through the wind farm to Cornholme or you can go along the road abit and then drop down onto the bridleways above Tod.

You could also have turned left under the pylons at the end of Flower Scar road onto the main road. After a couple of hundred yards you turn off the road right onto a bridleway. You can take a number of options again link up with another section of the MTL which eventually ends up under Stoodley Pike.

All good stuff. If you fancy having another go, PM me, I can always meet you at the station in Tod (it's all downhill from my house, b*gger getting home though).

  • Yeah, you see when I went up the massive hill, I rode for a few minutes along the top, then the track ended, meh. When my thumb has stopped giving me jip I'll come back and we'll have to meet up and see whats what up there. I might bring easyG too, although I haven't heard from him in what seems like an eternity now!

Oh - I went to the TrackRod UK car rally yesterday - It was a cracking day, I got loads of pics, and the weather was unbelieveble. Saw Gwyndaff Evans in his Mitsubishi. I'll get some pics on here later on for those of you who enjoy that kind of thing.

Cost a fortune, was really good but managed to right off most of today due to some super strength lager  Just as well I got a ride in yesterday. Got my entry back now for the Calderdale Mountain Bike Marathon with course directions on. Have plotted it and off to do a recce next week. Just hope the weather stays dry for a couple of weeks, had to keep doing rear wheel skids yeaterday just to see the dust fluff up, beautiful 8) .
