After all that it has been rather a disappointing climb up the alpe0

I'm in awe of Riis - he must have been planning this from the start<hr>

Evans about 1.30 down on Sastre in yellow. It's going to go down to the wire...0
-
So he's about 1:30 ahead of Evans on GC then?
Evans beat Sastre by 2:30 in the final TT last year. It's gonna be close but I don't think it's enough.Le Blaireau (1)0 -

Sastre won a stage in 2003 - remember the "dummy in the mouth" celebration?Le Blaireau (1)0 -

There's no way 1:30 is enough. There's a small chance he could pull back 10-15 more seconds tomorrow but it's unlikely. Looks like Evans is gonna be in Yellow barring a miracle ride by Sastre.
One thing I noticed: about 6-7 times on that mountain, Andy looked like he wanted to take off and was about to but looked back to his brother and each time saw he wasn't able to go. Andy, I think, could have taken the whole thing but he didn't want to risk dropping Frank or pulling up Evans.
Also, BIG kudos to Frank. What a teammate! When he realized he'd run out of time/distance to take enough time from Evans, he stopped his attacks and just rode Evans' wheel to let Sastre have a go. Wow.0 -
What a ride. He attacked before the first hairpin and rode away from all the others. Class.0
-
Really happy for Carlos, even though I have money on VDV to win!Le Blaireau (1)0

I was actually quite disappointed with that climb... anyone else? Shows how everyone is hurting i guess0
-
personally think CSC have blown it...
Theyve had 2 stages to mount a team attack against one guy and they left it till the last 1/2 hour... Unless Sastre becomes a TT god overnight it'll be close but I think evans will take it..dont knock on death\'s door.....
Ring the bell and leg it...that really pi**es him off....0 -
Carlos will do the TT of his life with the yellow jersey on his back, but it may not be enough.Le Blaireau (1)0
-
How about sending Frank Schleck on the attack on that 2nd cat tomorrow? Frank's Tour is over... sacrifice him, just give Evans another hard day.0

So do you think their tactics were ridiculous or not then ?
the reason i ask is that they have given themselves a decent shout at winning yellow in Paris through their ridiculous tactics.
cheers
MGGasping - but somehow still alive !0 -
i think they have to. They can't rely on Sastre pulling it out in the TT0
-
CSC have done all they could. It's a bike race and if chess-like tactics are important, the third dimension is the effort.
They attacked at the only realistic point, at the foot of Alpe d'Huez. Their only mistake in the race was not feeding Andy Schleck on the descent of Hautacam where he bonked, he'd be in yellow by now with a significant lead.0 -

Putting Cancellara to ride km after km on the Croix de Fer was ridiculous, yes. What purpose did it serve? It gave Evans a comfortable ride.
From the foot of the Alpe, they played it well, but I still don't think it was enough. They have a chance yes... but a very slim one IMO. I'd love to be proved wrong.0
