This is getting ridiculous now. Surely the CSC directeurs realise this is playing right into Cadel Evans' hands? This is helping neither Schleck or Sastre.

The final climb will be the judge of that i suppose.

    cheers

Why doesn't F Schleck attack and then have his teammates get in Evans's way as he tries to follow? Or is that not the done thing??

Sorry, but I'm really struggling to understand what CSC are thinking. Afterall, didn't they try this yesterday as well and it made no difference to GC.

If he gets to the bottom of Alpe d'Huez alongside Kohl and Schleck, the race is over.

I don't know - The bottom of Alpe d'Huez is the steep part when they could shake him.

I'd prefer if they went before then but waiting til the last mountain worked for Armstrong.

yup sastre only needs 50 second to get the jersey so would need to do a bit of a ricco :)

I personally think that none of them have the legs to break

Sastre doesn't look like he can attack at the moment. Well to me anyway.

Don't understand Schumacher's tactics today. Did he honestly think he could go on an all day break over three mountains and win the stage? Wouldn't it have been better to help Kohl?

Why are CSC just plugging along like that? Everybody knows that Evans has an extraordinary ability to sit on wheels and will probably stick with them, so what are they trying to do? And aren't they rapidly running out of time?

    Thanks.

Getting rid of people to try and get a small group. And they're wearing everyone down and hoping Frank will be less worn down than the rest.

Jens should pop onto the front soon and do even more damage.

    Well, you're half right...

Here we go. Maybe. Cancellara, Voigt and Gustov all shelled out. Very small peloton with 5km to go.

What are Kohl's TT abilities - is he a serious contender for overall winner?

Evans further back in the group than we've ever seen him. Usually he's stuck to Frank's wheel

Nope, but would hope to defend against Schleck at least

Beter than Schleck. In the first TT he lost about 1.45 to Evans, Schleck lost 2.00.

Whatever your views on Evans (and I'm not a big fan, though I was moved by how much it obviously meant to him when he first got into the yellow jersey), you have to give him some credit - he's basically done the whole Tour on his own. Unlike Schleck.

31st in the first TT, 1:47 behind Schumi, 1:20 behind Evans. So not that bad really.

Edit: What Piranha said. I was looking at his palmares... nothing even remotely impressive when it comes to TTs.

Although Evans will undoubtedly make up time in the time trial, they will all have had 17 stages in their legs between the two time trials.

    a: Do some work?

Sastre looks bad, hanging at the back of the group.

Congratulations to Cadel, looks like you've won the Tour, cobber! Unless he blows up massively on the Alpe, he can't lose much time and should be fine for the TT, where on paper he'll smash even Menchov.

Who said a clean(ish) tour would still be exciting?

Does this mean the time bonuses should be resurrected?

I kinda like the fact that your race time is the time you've spent on the road. But maybe it would have made things a bit more exciting. Though that does seem counter-intuitive.

well - the Yellow Jersey’s Peloton is rather large now so alot of riders in contention wich could spark some breakaways

Anyone listening to the BBC enhanced online coverage? It sounds like their commentator has gone insane at the moment. He's interviewing Geraint Thomas, but we can't hear Geraint. So we're getting one end of the conversation interspersed with really long silences

Vogondy is still in there which must mean Jens is there, he's got to absolutely kill himself in the valley to do anything at all. Then they've got to put a big effort at the bottom of the Alpe, rest and then go again from about 5 ks out.

Cancellara as well. They obviously slowed down at the top of the CdF.
  • If he doesn't lose significant time to menchov and evans reckon he could be a good outside bet, 300-1 as well for overall winner.

Don't understand CSC tactics, they need to attack evans. Cancellera is still in top group ffs.

Very pleased ITV 4 are showing it all live.
