    Wrath Rob damage report:

    Legs? Dead
    Lungs? Non-responsive
    Speed? Sub-normal
    Scalp? Strangely enough intact

I think I need to start eating some breakfast before leaving, especially if I'm going to ride more on a Sunday

Scalped the new boss in the park this morning.

Well, not really because he's on an MTB but at least he knows I'm eager to get to work in a morning and that I get in before him*

Was waiting at a red light, with said scallies doing wheelies back and forth on the pedestrian crossing in front of me saying "can you do this? can you, can you? want a race?"

I merely smirked knowingly. On the green light I set off and was immediately accompanied by the fleet of scallies pedalling furiously alongside me. Without even getting to top cruising speed I left them for dust with just a "too easy!" left hanging in the air

    Set Off.

    Bit rough.

Coughed a little, had no speed... coughed some more. What little speed there was dropped off.

Noticed squidgy lump of something on the top tube, realised it was a lung.

    Went home.

    Bleugh.

I see I may have to start leaving at 7am every morning, roads far clearer and faster people on bikes. Slightly brown moment when a cab and lorry got a bit silly with me just behind, but saw it coming and was hovering on the brakes.

Fast gent on a SS Roadrat and a very polite (hand signals everywhere) but slightly manic and unpredictable filterer. Having been to the gym as well now I could be lagging a little by this evening.

Don't think it's likely we will meet in the near future then, my alarm doesn't go off til 7:15, you must be through Rotherhithe by then.

PS thanks for the SCR ranking tip yesterday, got 4 road bikes this morning who I would not previously have considered legit scalps. Sweet.

Excellent, I'll count that as at least one scalp for me by way of assists
It's only the 3rd time I've left at 7, normally the alarm goes off at 7.20 and I leave around 8, unless it's busy at work. I did like that the gym was deserted before work today though so might make it slightly more regular.

Oh how I envy you chaps. My alarm goes off at 5am, out the door for 5:30 and at work by 6:45am. Showered and at my desk for 7:30 :( . I do get to leave site just before 6pm and get home just after 7:15!

Man work sucks. Really bites in to my riding time...

  • This morning was the first outing for the extra 7 inches of gears I have installed on the single speed. Extra zoom was instantly forthcoming and quickly liberated my congested sinuses of their mucousy load.

All the regular shopper bikes and BSOs were snapped up and spat out with increased frequency however, as usual, there was utterly nothing on the roads of Edinburgh giong my way that wasn't motorised to offer any sport.

The light reflecting off my shiny new mock-gold chain drew the compliments of a colleague who was roused from his waiting-for-the-bus slumber by the force of my wake and gushing praise from a chap in the locker room who rides a Specialised Tricross as SS - without any sort of chain tensioning (or lube by the look and sound of it).

  • Top ride in, instead of the usual sweat fest had a great chat with 'Pete' along CS7. Good effort that man, commuting from Guilford to the city is true mental toughness.

Different story on the way home though, lots of action until the 6 week old Bianchi developed the most unnerving noise from the left pedal. Sounded like a Spanish Galleon in a F9. The noise seemed to stop when climbing and throwing the bike from side to side only to return when riding steady again. Any ideas before i nurse her in tomorrow and get had over by a cocky young bike monkey?

Scalp is temporarily suspended until technical issues are resolved. And does everyone on here have the same cold at the Mo??

sounds similar to what happened to my new Giant, I eventually put a little bit of liquid lube in the join where the crank arm is pulled together on the shaft (if that makes sense, I have no idea what anything is called on the bike apart from the wheels and frame :) ) Had to do that about 3 times and its stopped now.

On SCR action, chased a Morris Minor up Amersham Road last night, didn't quite catch it but topped out at the corner at 23 with my legs in tatters.

And to the bloke on the black and white giant that sat on my pedals while I did 30 down Eltham Hill this morning THAT IS !*&$!&* DANGEROUS, DON'T DO IT AGAIN. And my mum is quicker than you at getting up hills, so there.

Yes, Mr white-northwave-gilet-on-a-blask-spesh man, it is a lot easier into the wind on the DSC and millbank when you're sitting right up my chuff...

Annoyingly lost my rear light this morning near putney. The flextight bracket was anything but and the light flicked into the spokes of my rear wheel and off into oblivion :(

I lost my Garmin last night. Luckily it was my rather ancient Edge 305, but annoying nonetheless. No idea where it came off, but didn't notice until I was in Battersea!

All about conserving energy this morning - too much enthusiasm earlier in the week, plus an extra 9 miles to a site meeting yesterday and limited sleep - so kept it brisk but nothing silly (< 25mph) and thankfully there was no-one to trouble me. Made pretty good time as well.

Morning to the chap on the metallic orange Carlton fixie - beautiful old part-chromed frame with old school centre pull brake up front. Nice to find someone else to mutter at RLJers with.

Also watch out for the temp lights at the end of Trinity Road in Tooting - big queues.

Set of 30 mins early today. Man was that a tough ride! Into the wind and no power left in the legs was a killer combination. Had an interesting tussle from AB all the way to VB with a guy on a baby blue flat bar fixie who had no respect for red lights. I was about 1mph faster so would reel him in between the lights and then loose him when I stopped. A guy on a grey Willier got in on the action too but we all separated at VB and I spent the rest of the ride as a conservationist, both of scalp and energy.

  • I was an hour earlier on the road this morning so it was proper dark O' clock.

Had my world turned upside down when I encoutered a Volvo running without lights.

    Did not compute.

My front light didn't want to go to work this morning and was getting dimmer and dimmer as I got closer to work. The Fenix was switching between mid beam and lo beam each time I hit a bump it seems.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Bit of a duel with a chap who was giving it some along Embankment tonight and NKR. Didn' get the bike, though. Think he turned off on the LRR.

  • Bike fixed and no tears. Took it for a test run along the fabled SCR expecting great things, like a ghost town at 5 30pm! returned to base a bit miffed.

Ride home spiced up by Red Spesh. MTB large bloke in vest. Duelled the whole of CS7, he was like a scolded cat off the mark and maintained enough speed to keep me monosyllabic at the lights. I had started to think CS7 was mine. Back in your box ego and sweet dreams... I was quite relived when he went straight on at Colliers Wood and i could turn off for a breather.

Interesting journey home, taking it nice and easy I came down the hill round the corner and there right in front of me was a large fallen tree branch :S arse!!! too late to brake and too big to bunny hop successfully I picked the narrowest section lifted my weight of the front and pulled up on contact, to my surprise the bike glided over, so I lifted the rear and I was over safely. Alas several of the branches caught the crud racer and my forks, cruds are dead and the forks need a good look at in the morning.

    County commuting

Dark tonight, no stars no street light obv. no traffic as per usual, but not wet or cold like London was.

I did something like this once. My wife and I were riding back from a mini-touring weekend on the IoW, couple of pannier bags each, when a young lad said "race yer". I know it's childish, but I just had to, no doubt my wife was rolling my eyes at "boys". The sad thing is after I left him far behind he gave up, turned round and swore at my wife. Lovely. A candidate for late abortion if ever there was one.

Queenstown Road is my quickest road home these days and since I always seem to end up working later than I'd like I'm stuck with it for speed. Normally there's not much in the way of a challenge by the time I'm going along so imagine my surprise when I saw not one but two quick roadies. They were just ahead of me approaching the s-bend at QTR station, was slowly catching up and then they turned off up to Clapham Old Town. Pah!

Looking at the map though I realise that's probably a much better way to get to the A24 (ahem, CS7) than going all the way up the hill and negotiating the silly one way bit round the Quadrant. New route for tomorrow. Yay!

Friday pootle... did the bare minimum while thinking about beer. Until... I converged with a roadie and neither of us really was desperate to take the lead so eventually I pulled ahead and carried on thinking nothing more about it a little while later he zips past me and brings the pain I bridge the gap wait and then bring my own version of the pain, just a little faster than he did previously.. then another rider converges with us who's just going that little but faster (b@stard) we to and fro a bit and I drop them both when the opportunity arises... the second chap catches me in traffic just before the Jamaica lane sprint section and sneaks in front, just in time for the road to open up and me to crush any remaining resistance.
