Christ, what happened? You scalp someone so hard you came away with their frame wrapped around you leaving the poor victim a surprised mess of wheels, mech, saddle and bars lying on the ground? The above is a post in a forum on the Intertubes, and should be taken with the appropriate amount of seriousness.0 -

I want to see the kind of riding you're intending on doing on it which would manage to deform the tyre enough to stress the rim!
Also, just imagine trying to reinflate it post-fairy.
Let's get ITB one.0 -

Let's get ITB one.
ITB to Significant Other: "I'm just going out for a ride, love."
*Five hours later a sweaty ITB stumbles back in, looking utterly spent.*
SO: "That was a long one, where did you go?"
ITB: "To the shed. I had a puncture."The above is a post in a forum on the Intertubes, and should be taken with the appropriate amount of seriousness.0 -
Rode in through a minging hangover this morning and took loads of slow moving roadies but today must have been baggy shorts day and no one told me so no scalps, but it did help shift the headache.
Then bagged a scooter tonight over Tower Bridge and the poor guy was wearing an Italian flag helmet - talking about kicking someone when they're down! Easy fixie on the way into Greenwich he just didn't have the ratio to hold me off.0 -
meeting pal tonight in the cask in Victoria, so I guess the embankment... Ho hum.0

Pfft, he got scalped by a burd on a hybrid!0 -
Riding my folder today (my #2 folder, upright with Kenda Kwest tyres which should be worth a food chain point on their own, it's like dragging a boat anchor!), wearing my tweed jacket, shirt, trousers and oxford shoes and carrying a gigantic backpack with everything I needed for 4 days away. FCN 14 then, going from Kings X to Waterloo. Got overhauled early on by a young lady in jeans and road shoes, on a skinny tyred hybrid, gave chase, but it was all I could do to stay in touch. Feeling slow as old arse and ashamed of myself, I tailed her til she turned off, but given what came after, I exchange my sense of shame for a hearty "chapeau!"
Coming down Farringdon I fall in behind a roadie in baggies and a lycra SS, and as soon as the bus lane starts and there's a gap, BAM! I'm past them. Now, a man in a tweed jacket on an orange folder is bad enough, but I have a ukulele strapped to my backpack, and my rain jacket tied to the shoulder straps flapping like a cape; there's no way these two are letting me go, and rightly they give chase. I'm still quicker though, and a fortuitous gap in traffic gives me the outer lane at the lights by the bridge in perfect safety. I'm through and going way quicker than the taxis, so I slide over into the bus lane. The bike lane is packed, and given my steed and clothing, pretty much everyone is prey! I'm expecting to run out of win here, but in fact, I scalp EVERYbody! Must have passed 25 people on that bridge, and though FCN or no I don't get much satisfaction from the nodders, I was leaving behind carbon, lycra, fakengers, at least 6 who will have been in the low single figure FCN, if I hadn't been going past too quickly to calculate properly. I dropped them like they were hot, and peeled off at the lights, feeling like the king of the world. I sense that my Awesome is back, and my Fast is returning! I'm simply left wondering how quick the girl in the road shoes and jeans was really.....0 -
Just in case the chap on the Pinarello and the guy on the white Specialized (I think) that I past in DSC are on here.....YOU SHOULD TRY HARDER! You two had a good lead on me from the lights as I wasn't gonna filter up the left of that left indicating bus waiting to go over VB so hung back just behind it. I'm sure you both went before it was green and then fell into a nice little line. Still didn't stop me taking both your sorry scalps as if you where standing still!
How you like them apples eh? Still no sign of you by the time I reached CB and turned off, the lights by the railway bridge teasing me with a breather and then going green as I approached!
Also I'd like to throw this one out there and get another rant of my chest. Is "Watch it dickhead" inappropriate language to use towards a car driver who almost left hooks you in slow moving traffic as they decide they want to take a side road without indicating? As it was close to home I'm used to ejit drivers so I'm always very wary when passing the side roads down my local high street. I was coming up the left when his car swerved sideways and make a dash for the corner. I grabbed a handful of brake, skidding a tiny bit and yelled at him.
Got the oh-so-typical "sorry mate, didn't see ya" and then he told me I should watch my language. I rather (in)politely advised him "maybe you should use your f**cking indicators and mirrors!" and carried on down the high street, safe in the knowledge that he wasn't going to be able to catch me :-) I'm sure he yelled something along the lines of wanting to f**k me up but I just wasn't in the mood to stand and argue with the idiot.0 -
Im on my boardman single speed wearing regular clothes plus bag, helmet and glasses, the calculater said I have a FCN of 6, my prey was riding a hybrid plus baggy shorts and t shirt.
Is it considered bad form to pull alongside scalpee and ask if they are racing me and then effortlessly pull ahead?FCN 60 -
walt jabsco wrote:Is it considered bad form to pull alongside scalpee and ask if they are racing me and then effortlessly pull ahead?
Yes, as you are then acknowledging you are racing..... if you want to really rub it in just try and make it look as casual as possible - try things like riding single or no-handed or adjusting your bag :-)0 -
walt jabsco wrote:Is it considered bad form to pull alongside scalpee and ask if they are racing me and then effortlessly pull ahead?
I'm afraid it's bad form, old bean.
The key is to present an impenetrable veneer of ease; you're just riding a bike to work.... Race? moi? Non, jamais! Even if your lungs are ablaze, your thighs are screaming, and your knees are popping through the skin, you can't appear to have even considered there might a be race.
I need reminding of this, on occasion.
Just a cheery "Good Day, sir/madam!", and blaze past. You got the effortlessly pulling away right, though :-)Sometimes parts break. Sometimes you crash. Sometimes it’s your fault.0 -
I might have to start laying in wait for unsuspecting vic...fellow cyclists. I feel that i have to break my duck somehow.FCN 60

I ate two baggy roadies and a ss-er alive this morning, then slowed down to wait for them to catch me up so I could pull away from them again.
Is this wrong?0 -
There will be one (1) very long-haired scalp available tomorrow, as I'll be on the new fixie. I've left the Bowery as is apart from the seatpost and saddle (the new seatpost was seriously short - need a new one of those) including its SPDs - I'll be picking up a new set tomorrow, but until then I'll be on the toe clips.
And I can't use them.
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.
Maybe I'll see if there are some old flats lurking at the bottom of my toolbox. Sacrilege, I know, but arrrrrgh toe-clips.
So, if you see me, it's all yours. And apparently you'll get good money for it!
I also have no bar tape and no pannier rack. :oops:0 -

Why not take the pedals and rack off the Bowery?0 -

I have no p-clips, so wouldn't be able to put the rack on the Fuji if I could get it off the Bowery. And the pedals on the Bowery may, I suspect, be contributing to the general grindy creaky awfulness.0 -

Easy to tell, give them a quick spin about their axles and feel how grindy/smooth the bearings feel.
You run Shimano pedals, right? They're pretty serviceable if needs be.0 -

I know, I've done that, it sounds just as awful as the rest of the poor beast. And again, you're overestimating my mechanical ability.0 -

Was up in Londonium this afternoon and I didn't realise how bad us cyclists get treated by some of the drivers. I walked from Pentonville to Victoria Coach station down Farringdon and along the river, or as it is known here, The Embankment.
One female cyclist got left-hooked by a Postman Pat van and the language that emergerd from her mouth shocked me. Walked the embankment fom Blackfriars to Westminster Bridge around 17:30, RLJing seems a popular pastime along there.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
Had a pleasant run in with a chap in a blue shirt on a maroon touring bike (rack and 1 pannier). We had the match of each other so took it in turns to lead, all very civilised. After a quick chat at Albert Bridge we parted ways, honours even.
So much for my gentle ride home with tired, end-of-week legs thenFCN3: Titanium Qoroz.0 -
Coming back from a local meeting today down a rather steep hill I was on the teocali, in jeans and a t=shirt but with five tens on flats, FCN 14 I overtook two shaved leg roadies as there is really sharp turn at the bottom that I can outbreak a road bike and rail the corner then in 100 yards I'm back off road and wasn't doing anything I don't do on that hill when there is nothing else around, so how is that for scalping> Seeing as this about the third time I have riden to and from a job this year;-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_

Why are MTB economics; spend twice as much as you intended, but only half as much as you wish you could afford? :roll:0 -
On the TT bike again today. Was gradually catching the HTC guy (Focus road bike, full HTC Columbia strip) this morning, only for him to go straight on at a roundabout, whereas I go left to take the longer route into Cardiff. Of note though, would be the appearance of a set of aerobars on his bike. This makes it even more of a scalp to be had. I will wait, I'm patient, his time will come and his scapl will be mine (again...).
Apart from that, nothing really of note, except the Harrier Jump jet and Spitfire that were blocking my normal route through Cardiff Bay! It's Armed Forces Day tomorrow, so they're gearing up all the displays.
Might have to take a huuuuuuge detour because of this on the return journey. Obviously this has nothing to do with it being a nice day, a Friday and Team SCR needing a few extra miles...0 -
Just like to say a big thanks to the guy on the Pearson Touche this morning on the VB>LBR strip. That was a mightly impressive pass and I had to wind it upto just south of 30 to get back in front!
Alas I missed the crossing opportunity at the r/b and then 2 sets of lights so could only watch as you scooted on round Parlit Sq.
Well done :-) Asides from that kept a clean sheet, repeatedly scalping a bunch of RLJer's down Queenstown Road and spotted the chap aboard the Alu Boardman again.......he'll get sick of seeing my backpack soon :-)0 -
I found some flats! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
And I don't know WHO put that bike together, but the idiot didn't do the hoods up tight enough. I don't know, you can't get the staff these days...
Anyhow, mmmmmm nice new fixie. It's lovely, it doesn't creak or grind or anything. I'm slightly tempted, seeing as I don't need to carry anywhere near as much stuff as I did at last work, to pick up a small messenger bag. Just to see.
Tart? Why yes, thanks, I'll take a bakewell.
However, I'm slower without the clipless pedals. That needs to be remedied - I picked up a Genesis thing and couldn't outrun it. Damn. :x
It's OK, though, I was in a dress. And he had gears.0 -
LiT hurry up and get yourself together woman! Expecting great scalping stories next week0

Ah, so if you wear a dress you have a better FCN?
Interesting...

I know, I've let you down, I've let myself down, I've let everyone down.
Popping to a bike shop at lunchtime to get SPDs and some bar tape. And some allen keys.0
