DDD, I've been in 'senior' positions for well over 4 years now, and cycled throughout. A lot of people on here are the same.
Honestly, once they're high up in the world people don't care how you get to work. You could use a jet-pack for all they mind, they may think you're mad but it'll be mad in a good way. A way that they're actually jealous of!
The things that will make them dismiss you, or look down on you because of your age or whatever else all happen between when you arrive at work and when you leave.
EDIT: Actually, at my last company, board meeting lunches eventually turned to the fact that I cycle everywhere. People think it's brilliant, and I know at least one of the board now commutes by bike.0 -
Another lovely day, another lovely collection of snoozing roadies, though 2 in question did put up more of a fight. LiT I came across a younger dark haired sister of yours - cycle style almost indentical but hasn't the power of you yet...
Absolute twonk who went through a red light and almost took out another cyclist using his green - he was perfectly in the right you call you wanker and next time have the grace to acknowledge that please. Oh and I still retain your scalp - jumping red lights doesn't count as overtaking.
Another one of those big dumper trucks was available for drafting which was nice. I gave em the thumbs up too for slowing down nicely to give me space to filter past once traffic got busy again.
Motorbikes in asl's... ah well
Morning all! One week left in old job... Does anyone go round the imax roundabout or is there a nicer way to get onto union st from parliament?Le Cannon [98 Cannondale M400] [FCN: 8]

Was it me or is there a tailwind on The Embankment heading with the main flow this morning?
Either that or last nights "low energy" ride home left me with extra reserves in the tank this morning as I was tanking along :-) Actually had a great start as I came over Battersea Bridge today (wouldn't do that again traffic was b0ll0x on the south side.......) and got to the north end and round the corner as the lights went amber! Had to avoid and yell at a pleb heading west who starting going on what was clearly a red for him, seemingly oblivious to me!!
As I wound it up I looked back and could see someone in black, with a high-vis rucksack giving it some beans away from those lights "Ah ha the hounds have been released, the fox needs to make a getaway :-)" my internal monologue says.......
Kept up the pace until some lights ahead went red and caused me to back off a tad. The chap in black got in contact at Albert Bridge (I think) as the lights where red and I ID'd him as someone I've seen a few times on a alu Boardman roadie (why? just cough up the few hundred extra quid and get the CF one!!!!)
He was certainly giving it some away from each set of lights but just didn't quite have the legs to maintain it!
Millbank was a bloodbath but I lost a couple of roadies at Parlit Sq. due to filtering. Also a special mention goes to the utter c0ckwomble on the Trek with tri-bars - it's NOT COOL to narrowly miss peds as you RLJ you utter sh!te!0 -
I was a bit slower this morning, potentially due to the very extended ride home, or the few hours kayaking, or the late night, or the fact that I haven't cycled much in the past 11 months!
But there really wasn't much around to chase, which also doesn't help. I tried to catch an RLJ-ing Bianchi but his RLJ-ing was way too much for me - I kept him in sight until just before shebu, then he was gone gone gone probably through every red all the way to Notting Hill.
Blasted football. Hopefully there'll be more people about on the way home.0 -

Yeah, wouldn't worry. In my experience the higher up you go the more people appreciate healthy pursuits and interests outside of TV/Beer.
Anecdotal only but I work at a fairly staid place (Japanese investment bank) and my boss, his boss and his boss all cycle to work. The guy one up from them is the COO, makes many many millions a year and has his yachting successes in pictures all around his office so he's probably not one to turn his nose up at outdoorsy stuff either.
So, if anything, I'd think it'd be a plus.0 -
Back to using the Focus today. Not as quick as the TT, but much quicker than the NRS and XTC. Couple of passes (but no scaps) over the barrage and I must apologise to the lady in the hi-viz vest riding a Giant hybrid with panniers for blasting past her at 35+ on the descent to the barrage and scaring the bejuses out of her.
There was actually a slight tail-wind this morning, which was very welcome. Legs are feeling a bit heavy after last nights fun and frivolity chasing the dog around the park. (No that's not a upherism, we have a 7 month old lab/collie cross puppy who likes to fetch the ball, then run off with it, so that you'll chase her...)
I'm going to say that I'll "take it easy" on the way home, but it doesn't always work out like that...0 -

Some rugby player looking chap on a Scott took plenty of drafts this morning. Then weaved through peds at the crossing on Lambeth BR at a fair lick.

I do / have reported to the board in several multi billion pound organisations. Cycling to work makes no difference at all and in many cases board members cycle (of course all of them wish they cycled).
I once cycled to an interview at one of the world's largest law firms in jeans and a t-shirt because that was what I worn at the role I was moving on from. Got the job.

From the centre of Penarth - climb up Albert Road, right onto Corronation Terrace, then left onto St Augustine's road, following that round onto Paget Place, then turning right (not going the quick way the wrong way down the one-way) onto Paget Road down to the Barrage. I just seem to be able to plummet down there (might be the 16lb backpack assisting here).0 -

No, it was a rather grubby and banged up looking celeste one... Unfortunately there's a lot of RLJing that takes place on the ol' Uxbridge road... I did mention it to the police who were doing the cycle marking/hgv sitting at HPC.0 -

A true scalp is not only overtaking someone but leaving them stopped at a set of lights. As you, who have clearly beaten the lights, pummels nothing but the open air ahead. ~ 'DondaddyD'. Player of the Unspoken Game0 -

Illford!! Well at least if you do decide to cycle you could use the Embankment :-)
Folder is probably the way forward tho unless you ride to other side of town to avoid the "can't take bike on London bound trains" rule before hopping with the bike to get to Illford?
Anyhow whichever way you choose to get there good luck and your still sorta welcome to come on here and cause arguments :-)0 -

Well the idea is to get a folder, ride it to Liverpool Street and then get a train to Ilford. But I got to get a folder, which means I've got to find one that is decent and that I like.Food Chain number = 4

I do understand, but scope it out, check out the bathroom facilities, depending on if it's a new build or not somewhere like Ilford there ought to be showers, so you can make yourself presentable etc. or there may be a gym nearby.
Nobody's going to look down on you for cycling.0 -

I actually reckon cycling's helped me out a bit.
It means that everyone has a topic that they can start a conversation with me with.
I tend to end up waffling about bikes to half the office over coffee/etc. Means I'm not just a face in the crowd, y'know?
That said, I'm pretty awesome anyway. People would pay attention to me whatever.0 -

I want to see the kind of riding you're intending on doing on it which would manage to deform the tyre enough to stress the rim!0
