Oof... Was fun but I found another super speedster slick mtber... admitedly he only over took (I was already doing 24) when drafting a roadie but still - chapeau sir! Hope to see you again because after all your sterling work you finished it off with a rlj...
Dumbass!
Fun fun fun - and hello to the nice roadie who I had a few good words with. It was indeed a nice night to fly along!Le Cannon [98 Cannondale M400] [FCN: 8]

Ladies in normal non cycling short short trouser shorts & tights oh yes I do very much approve, might have given the game away by slamming on the ancors as I approached then holding back

Had a play with a geared roadie on the incline from Temple Meads to Arnos Vale this morning. Saw him duck onto the cyclepath on the pavement and stayed on the road to scalp him but he made a veiled attempt to keep his scalp intact at the three lamps junction but I held good and let him see how good my bike looks from the rear. We stayed like that till the Arnos Vale hotel and had a quick chin wag at the lights till we went our seperate ways.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

WAH tomorrow so planning to do a virtual commute in the morning, taking in some of my favourite drag strips. See ya tomorrow, ladies! :PDavid

Hammered it home this evening as I was rather late leaving work. Consequently virtually nothing worth racing bar a couple of roadies on Clapham Road.
Oh, and couple of Mitcham's finest comedians who thought it would be HILARIOUS to shout "Oi, mate yer willy's 'angin out" from their over-polished hatchback tw@tmobile whilst waiting at the lights (it wasn't by the way, I would have noticed). Of course I thought of the perfect witty put down about half a mile later

I'm beginning to think car drivers in South London should really service their cars more often.
At about 4 or 5 sets of lights I've been waiting at over the last 2 commutes I've seen cars start rolling forware whilst the light is red........I mean I can only *assume* it's faulty brakes to blame......one chap last night in Camberwell ended up clearing the whole ASL box during the red at about 0.001mph.
I did however get some friendly banter from a pillock in a van this morning who went into the ASL at the top of South Norwood Hill, he commented "Bet that warmed you up riding up the hill!" Well actually it did but I think claiming 2 roadie scalps within 3/4 mile of leaving the house and on the same hill also helped :-)
Had an excellent run down Fountain Drive and College Road today, bike felt much more planted and then didn't really have anything to play with until I found a rather quick looking roadie in Camberwell. Tried to prod some speed out of him as I came past just after the lights by the green but he didn't seem to respond and then proceeded to RLJ at the next set of lights and I lost sight of him - his rear light wasn't particularly bright and traffic pulled into his lane :-(0 -
Toyed with a couple of roadies on Embankment this am before dropping them with a quick burst up to 27 along Grosvenor Road. Yet to be scalped, although I've been clinging on for dear life a few times.

Just goes to show you never can tell - sometimes abuse (like my encounter last night), sometimes a friendly chat.
Glad of a day on PT today as I must have really overcooked it last night. Legs a bit achy as I went to bed, but normally I can sleep this off. No such luck this morning and had to hobble down stairs. Off to write out one hundred times:

Where the hell was the wind coming from this morning! I headed out towards town, headwind. So I figured the ride back would be a blast.
Ride back, headwind. Urg.David

last night I was scared of being super rubbish after a leg heavy gym circuits class... ate well then practically flew home even dropping a pizza delivery scooter... that felt good
this morning was the first "woah had a few beers last night" ride this year but I coped pretty well passed a gaggle of commuter roadies (commuters on road bikes if you get my drift) where we all bitched this one clown who rode like a total co<k. He cut this other dude up almost to the point of tyres touching. then we were all waiting at the lights he saunters through a really busy junction where we all decided he was a total to$$er

@CP - I think it was the morning for a$$hat riders, I had a messenger (going by is his stupid narrow bars...) who came round me on my right and turned left without indicating as I was pulling away from the first set of lights off E&C. He's lucky I didn't pull of earlier or I might have hit him!0

Had a little duel with a guy in old school cycling gear (well washed pro jersey and knackered bibs) and a 'winter hack' type red canondale roadie. I was intimidated as he looked 'schooled' and gave it massive beans off every set of lights around Brixton, only to top out at 21mph. I scalped him 3 or 4 times on the way down to Kennington and the Cut.
He must have been ill or something.
p.s. Waterloo bridge is a pain, but my fellow commuters - sprinting down the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic to skip 200 yards of traffic....come on guys!0 -

Stop selling yourself short! The evening you rode home with me and DDD after morpething you where doing plenty good, have a little faith :-)
Thanks but i could not understand why he was doing the massive sprint off the lights only to sit down at 21mph.
Oh also - I tried out the big ring and some sprinting and got up to 25 mph.0 -

To be fair that's almost exactly what I do... its fun/strength building to hit flat out and get up to 20 as fast as possible. 20 or so on the flat is okay (for me on a slick mtb) although more often I may well be chasing someone ahead so will crank it up a little to get emLe Cannon [98 Cannondale M400] [FCN: 8]

I do feel there should be a "appreciating the view" exception to scalps
Anyone noticed the fashion for the all in one wool dresses around at the mo, figure hugging things? They rock.
Also - fixie riders, why do they rock their head from side to side?0 -
Sewinman wrote:Aidy wrote:Also - fixie riders, why do they rock their head from side to side?
Isn't it because they are putting so much effort into spinning the cranks that their whole body is rocking side to side which is accentuated when it gets to the neck, therefore the head waggles.
Another look i see is 'the woodpecker'. Usually guys on undergeared MTB's who are really giving it the beans to go past me on my road bike. they are focusing so much on putting all their effort into each downstroke that their head rocks up and down in time with the pedal strokes like a woodp.....
What's that?
Oh, you got it already...
Anyway, i give em a few seconds to feel good about it before cruising past them in a smooth, stylin' way.FCN = 40 -

Out of the saddle has the effect of lowering your gearing effort, like standing up when hill climbing, so once you get up to a good RPM sitting down again at the right point gives you a nice speed boost if you keep the cadence.
