Met one of Brizzle's SMIDSY WVM on the ride in at 7am. He crept over the white line on the junction and stopped then as I got closer pulled out and could have made the turn well before I got to the part of the road where the junction was and as I did he made the turn into a wide turn and forced me into the gutter and I was able to hit the rear of the van with my fist, we were that close. I gave chase as there is a set of TLs ahead and a roundabout that is never clear. I caught him at the lights and he was ready with the excuses and the wound down window 'Sorry mate I didn't see you', I pointed at the two lights on the bars, a Tesco torch and Cateye EL320 on strobe and he missed them :? I only said a few words to him 'Specsavers mate, try Specsavers' and rode off when the lights changed. Alas this was one day when the camera was on the desk besides the PC and not on the bars :(

Saw some dozy tart diving across Gloucester Road in front of a cyclist this evening. His shout of "Dickhead" did make me chuckle.

Good to be back on the bike and taking the odd scalp or two. Chapeau to the two lovely blonde ladies on MTBs from the South Glos Road Safety Team riding up Gloucester Road earlier this week. I only kept up due to luck with the traffic lights!

Felt rough as a badger's this morning - no night out or anything, just an is-it-isn't-it cold thing I think I picked up at work - so shuffled round to the station. Almost dozed off once on board, so just as well I didn't cycle. Felt better once I got to work (on account of not being stuck in a train/tube) and was slightly frustrated to see the sun almost breaking through when I popped out for lunch. If I'd been up to it, it would have been a good day for a ride.
    :(

Anyway having been off the bike 3 out of 5 days this week (plus no time for a ride this weekend), I've got withdrawal symptoms and I'm going to be champing at the bit on Monday morning. You have been warned

Finally got back on the bike last Tuesday. First time since Christmas Eve cos of seized-up gears and then the snow and ice. Considering the long lay-off, and all the eating and drinking, I got back on the bike on Tuesday morning and breezed into work easily. No lethargy. Hardly felt the effort. Great stuff!

Until I arrived at work and saw from the flags that I'd had a hearty tailwind. Struggled somewhat on the way home

And he's back in the game! No one passed me on Embankment this am, but I managed to pass everyone I saw, even topped out at 26mph. Feeling pretty damn good, Sunday's pootle round RP did me the world of good although my sit bones are protesting this morning, 3 months of no saddle sitting has made them soft. Time to MTFU.

Nice one IP, good to see you're back in the game again  Now the heard work really starts, getting those sit bones used to hours in the saddle again takes large amounts of MTFU

Just shows what I can do when I apply myself. Didn't get passed by anyone in open traffic and only a couple pulling up to RLs, who were swiftly despatched on the arrival of a GL. :D A handful of notable scalps at various points between Balham and Lambeth, including a rather shiny white and orange BMC (looked like a Christmas present) Slightly disappointed he didn't make more of an effort.

Great stuff, I will be avoiding the Embankment like the plague!
  • Goddam PF. But before then (blackfriars) I was having loadsa fun. A very roastie like bloke on a charge was fun to chase through hyde park. A few pootlers on embankment to chase down. Here's fcn question - is the outer layer what counts, so even if you wear lycra underneath, if you have baggies over - do you get the +1?

Morning all btw! Nice work IP - celebratory beers at ye olde morpeth on friday then?

Bizarre but i have hardly any recollection of my commute this morning, just tried to think of any highlights and the entire trip is pretty much blank. I really can't remember any of it. The one thing I do remember is one very very lovely lady on a road bike, wearing a jacket with 'sustrans' on the back. Woke me up for a few minutes and then back to mind blank zombie riding.

I'll have a look at that cheers

Yeah I've been buying the Paul Sauer for a little while now

    ---
Todaty was supposed to be a recovery ride... but god hates me and puts tempting scalps including this one guy who I scalped 3 times as he kept sneaking through lights...
The first time I dropped him he wasn't aware I was there.. the 2nd time he was considerably quicker and took a bit of effort to pass him... the 3rd time he was spent and was pretty easy.

the latter part of the week is already looking slow

Wow, working in the west end today and coming up the A24 and the A3 is a veritable smorgasbord of Scalps. Cycle city.

Positively tropical out there today. Gave the bike a good clean and re-lube at the weekend and tightened the brakes - now running like a dream. Maxed out at 29mph on the drag race away from the VB lights. Plenty of scalps!
  • Struggled into work on the bike this morning, bagged a couple of scalps by sheer virtue of tires (Hurrah! for extra nobbly points).

Really need to up my game on the route in though, realised how much slower I am these days; getting fatter to.

Gave a gentle cheer at the news Bristol is getting more cycle funding, then saw news of another serious accident involving a cyclist on Gloucester Road this morning.

Sorry to hear about the PF, I've had a few near misses myself recently with all the grot on the roads. As to the FCN, a vain attempt to make life easy for oneself by disguising one's true FCN is just not in the spirit of SCR.

Personally I have never really understood baggies over lycra - some sort of modesty thing? Wear it with pride I say.

Purely warmth atm :D Normally in just shorts, but wearing 3/4 singletracks over for the winter spell. Puncture was a 2 mm thorn from feck knows where - slap bang centre of tyre.

I'm a baggies over lycra type (for the commute that is) as I dont' actually yet have any full length lycra leggings, so instead have some thermal leggings which I think are designed to be worn under something! It also adds an extra layer of warmth and gives me a few pockets and somewhere to attach my lock key as I hate faffing around to fish it out my bag :-)

Anyhow back to this morning, I'd say it was all going fairly well for my first ride into town until this happened, at which point all SCR sorta went out the window (although I have to admit I did try a few times!) I do remember a rather quick guy on a knobblid up white bike I Camberwell before the handlebars gave up, he accelerated away from the lights by the green and then jumped on my six. A pillock on a motorbike put paid to my attempts to drop him as he tried to filter up the LHS at another set of lights and realized he had no room meaning me and MTB guy had to stamp on the anchors. MTB guy allowed me through first and we carried on our little duel until I was forced to make my pit stop :-(

You wants some o' them DHB Merstons. I'm thinking about getting a second pair as they have done me proud over the last couple of weeks. Triple layer over the knees as well so no creaky joints :)

  • THAT WAS FUN!. Apologies to the two roadies I lost at the middle lights on chelsea embankment (one on a most bright yellow something) but the scalps fit nicely :D

Warm tonight too. Just needed ss jersey and good gloves on top with shorts and 3/4 on le bottom half.

Moped city out tonight though with some right numpties.

First visit of the year from you know who :-) also managed to snap one of the crud racers connectors, and my new light has packed up, that should be my lot for today hopefully

I'm seriously considering carrying a track pump, these cheap tyres pinch everytime an co2 inflations never give me the confidence of a good HARD pump :)

plenty of scalps this morning including one on the country leg, which is very rare. Best of all was the moped I took at blackfriars then again from the lights on the south side of the bridge all the way to the IMAX very happy with that ESP as he was most def. Trying (I think)

Awesomely fun ride home today! The roadworks on Borough High Street meant I got sent on a diversion (being to lazy to find another way round it.......) but had some good fun chasing some quick flat bar roadie rider until the silly sod RLJ'd!

Camberwell didn't bring anything interesting and it wasn't really until the final hill descent that I had some proper fun with a car :-) One of those silly little Mercedes Benz A-Class toy cars, sat there doing just shy of 30mph which is far to slow for me on this section of road. It was clear coming the other way so I pulled over and put the hammer down and didn't see them again!
