    Rain this evening? Joy

Just looked out the window. Balls.

Will give my new "waterproof" boots a test then.

Just wandered up the road to get my ears lowered, heaven's opened as I left the barber's and it's messed up my lovely new hairdo. Even if it's not raining the roads are going to be rather moist heading home.

I'm off then, got to pick up the little one from after-school club anyway. No doubt this will cause the clouds to make a beeline for CS7.

on occasion yes but in a very different way, by choice not because i have too. Oddly enough a chap who recently moved into my road is actually doing my exact commuting route, albeit a shed ton faster than i ever could, he also cheats as he uses his best bike all year round and leaves kit at work, no panniers and or messenger bag.

    that just not cricket

It's freedom. If I could physically lug 2 weeks worth of shirts, socks and pants in at a time, I would. I currently do a weeks worth, but I reckon 7 or 8 days is doable. Luckily I don't have to bring a laptop home, as I can deal with 99% of out of hours stuff on an iPhone. I'm also lucky enough to have a free gym at work which provides fresh towels, so I don't have the mildewy towel problem.

Wish id stayed in bed this morning. So many idiots around but the trophy for dumbass of the day goes to the motorcyclist who undertook me through Ham dip in RP with inches to spare for no reason whatsoever but apparently that was my fault given the way he was shaking his head.

Strava says I rode in with abfg yesterday morning. Pretty sure I didn't see him, so checked flyby, and it looks like he was 50 metres behind me all the way in.

I may have ridden in with mtb-idle today, certainly there was a black clad chap on a specialised single speed with a messenger bag.

Suffering with first week back legs since Wednesday. Looking forward to a rest this weekend.

  • Yesterday felt slow progress so I am happy to hear that news. In an hour earlier today and was happy for the thinner crowds...

Roads seemed full of absolute knobjockeys this morning. The amount of nodder & chopper activity was staggering.

Possibly, cant see you on flyby but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. I certainly was on my langster, in black with a messenger bag.

A few pics on my Strava that may jog your memory of who else was around including that big chap with the lycra and full face lid.

Nice ride in. Nothing notable apart from a chap on a white FGSS with pink bar tape who is clearly very quick. Quicker away from the line that everyone I expected to reel him in as he span out. He didn't spin out. He just gently pulled away from everyone.

Everyone apart from the chap on what I think was a Canyon, but it's hard to tell with today's Disaster Area / Restaurant At The End Of The Universe design aesthetic. IM sticker on the side of his aero helmet and Di2 TT extensions clipped on a standard set of bars he was quick. Not sure about using extensions on Embankment though.

That'll be me in the orange at the front of the pack at Oval. You're right though, I can't see you on flyby.

Met predicting heavy rain and 41/42 mph gusting headwind on the way home tonight, then a spell of calmer weather, then rain and 48-50 mph gusting headwind on the way home tomorrow evening. How much weather is too much weather?

For colder & damper days yep (I see from the photo that it's really quite visible!). Warmer days is a red alpha jersey. I think I can confidently identify you now as well, so I will say hello when paths next cross.

  • Slightly earlier meant major carnage was averted. New bike parts are dripping in for the 10x1/weight loss upgrade so slightly faster by the end of the week hopefully.

Ride home with Hopkins on Friday night meant being sociable killed any need to pressure the first Friday legs of the season.

I should pay more attention to the news instead of just watching Netflix. Until 15 minutes ago I was completely unaware of Storm Brendan.

60kph head winds sound fun. Also, despite investing in waterproofs this winter I haven't brought any of them with me today.

Wasn't so bad, but I was away early for kid collection. Bit blowy, but block headwind, so just a gearing issue.

A few bods in it when I went through, but, yeah, really quiet.

Blown across the road a bit on the slope down to Kingston Gate (from Ham Cross); that doesn't happen very often.

Took one look at the forecast for this evening and left the bike and got the train.
