Well the ride home was wet and windy, the smart people had probably decided to trainw@nker it instead
Not pleasant, but after far too many hours in the car over the last few days I still kind of enjoyed it.

I'm dumb. I rode. Bit damp. Popped a spoke riding into a disguised hole, which was farking annoying. Rode the last few km at 15kph with the nipple from said spoke rattling around inside the rim, and the wheel wobbling quite alarmingly. It stayed together though.

Alloy rim back on the front for a while I suppose.

Bring it round and we'll see what sort of spoke it is and get it sorted. Usual charges apply :D

Visit from the fairy last night just as I was approaching Albert Bridge, so I stopped at the (empty) bus shelter. Hard to imagine a better place to fix a puncture; dry and well-lit, with the seat making a handy work bench. It even has USB charging points (though I didn't use them).
As if that wasn't enough, the fairy decided to strike on a rare evening when I was in no particular hurry to get home.

This should probably have gone in the anti-rants thread...

When changing my tyre on to alloy rim this morning I took the opportunity to dig out all the crap lodged in the rubber. I'm amazed I've not had a visit from the fairy. I had 2 shark's tooth sized shards of glass in there.

Pretty small. I meant to say "2 5mm sharks tooth shaped", but was distracted.

Quite understandable - even the small ones can give you a nasty bite.

Does this mean we need to update our map of SW London to include Sharks?

Luxury day for me today. After weeks of using other means I finally got to use the showers at work! Lovely!

The map already has the dragons marked on it - in Battersea Park iirc.

Bring it round some time with a spare spoke. If the wheel is clean the EPO should let us put the wheel stand on the dining room table, otherwise we'll do it when she's out.
Warm, slow pootle in this morning. Even stopped for a coffee.

I do like that type of agreement with the EPO - what they don't know, eh?
Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.

To be fair it's rarely needed as she's very tolerant, to manage 20+ years with me she's had to be.

It's all about establishing norms at an early stage. I build all my wheels in front of the TV, and during the CX season wheels have to come into the warm to dry out the cotton tyres, so wheels and related kit in the house is just the way it is. That's not the same as the Merckx frame on the kitchen wall, which is an ornament.

I actually emailed my girlfriend at lunchtime today, to get spoke length measurements from one of the wheels in the living room...

  • Always remember to tighten inner tubes with removable cores. I thought I'd learnt this lesson a few winters back in the middle of Kent but apparently not.

    Conti?
Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.

Yea. I've avoided buying them lately but needed a 60mm valve for new wheels and it completely slipped my mind. Tightened them up at home but might stick a small pair of pliers in my bag just to be on the safe side.

Get a valve core key. Tiny, only a couple of grams and about 99p

In other news, still plenty of cyclists about but slim pickings for SCR competition. Bumped into KingDav again at E&C so had a nice chat till the far side of Southwark bridge instead.
  • Last commute of the year for me. Pretty quiet but I started to feel an odd sense of foreboding with some of the driving going on (and indeed, some of the riding and pedestrianing) so just took it nice and easy. Nice enough ride.

Edit: oh, a bloke who I eased past on the upslope of Waterloo bridge came huffing and puffing back past me as I was rolling down to the lights, which was quite amusing - but thinking about it, I suppose he technically has my scalp. Balls.

Haven't commuted for the last 2 weeks as I still have man-flu. It's shit.

    That is all.

Maybe better in the rants thread.

Feel a cold coming on in time for Christmas, so tried to smash/sweat it out on the commute, we shall see if that works.

Quiet on the roads this morning, and I felt fresh after a day off the bike yesterday so the spin into work was pretty quick. Hoping tomorrow is even quieter.
