There was some lanky fella on a hybrid that went shooting by me, hang on that's not a hybrid, it's just a blooming great MTB with slicks....and flats!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
All I could do was keep up ish, I had no chance of taking him...he must have been about 12* foot high, wearing lyrca, on a blueish Trek
*in my shock I might have got a bit confused
Apart from that, nout to report...I managed not to run in the back of any buses on the way home which was a bit of a relief...
Although some old bloke and his misses in a beige Skoda took offence at me overtaking motorbike stylee on the right, beeped their horn and moved over towards me, even though the road widened to their left where I (and another cyclist) was overtaking.0 -

On the final stretch, I saw a moped waiting to pull out on to the road after me. I put on the power, but couldn't push Ol' Bouncy over 23mph, and was greeted with a lungful of two-stroke fumes. Oh, the pain...
Mmmm 2 stroke....was it Shell?0 -
The roads of London were quiet on the way home tonight, though it was 9.30! Not much action apart from another SS that got me on the Embankment, he came past at a couple of mph faster and then got up out of his seat and tried to do the "lay down some awesome" trick. A bit of a failure for him though as a) no rucksack for him, so he should have done me on points and b) he was obviously trying too
Anyway, I manfully held on for long enough for him to loose any points as he jumped the next 3 sets of lights. A bit silly really as each time I held the gap and slowly reeled him in. By the time I had to turn of for lots road I was right back on his wheel too. I was tempted to go for the overtake but I just wanted to get home, not have a 1 mile detour to prove the point (yeah, yeah, I know MTFU).
On the negative side, the wine and nibbles from the work do definitely hampered my performance by conspiring to provide a nasty stitch after about 20 minsFCN3: Titanium Qoroz.0 -

I'm now down to my final commute before my extended Xmas break and it's my short local town blast and to cap it off there will probably be sod all to race as I head home after mid day!
Had a bit of fun last night as I played with a chap on his scooter, admittedly both of us where held up by a bus but I was matching the speed of both vehicles :-) Also managed to time the first set of lights on the way home to perfection, arriving just as they changed and laying down a nice strip of awesome to pull away down the middle lane and hold the pace for the next 200 yards or so to keep ahead of the buses and cars!!!
So just incase I'm not back on here before Xmas (I probably will be but from this afternoon it's gonna be a manic effort to prepare the house for Christmas with all the extra children and people coming over - the best bits!) I'd like to wish you all a merry christmas and I hope santa brings you all the pressies you asked for - cycling related or not!0 -
 <- mowahahahaahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
I was on a mission this morning. I turned out of my village onto the A6 towards sunny Lancaster.
Ahead of me was a floo-yellow cyclist. That's all I saw at this stage. So I start to give chase along the two mile stretch before we hit the built up area. I was gaining, but not by much.
And then I spot why I'm not gaining that quickly. As I get closer I spy lycra, clipless peddles and oddly smooth legs pushing them around....
Game on. - just before I got to Lancaster itself I peddle past this roadie, I actually held my breath and sat as up right as I could as if this was a casual cycle to work...I continued to pull away for the next half mile.
Then I came to a stop at a set of red lights at a major junction...well, you can guess what he did...
So not only a SCR win, but a moral victory as well...hoorah!
And this was done on my wife's MTB with full MTB tires and I think I deserve an extra point as it has a ladies saddle...<insert witty comment here>
Also, I have calculated my FCN as 12...although I have no idea what that actually means.0 -

Seems logical, but isn't the front suss intended to absorb some of the stick?
In truth, I have no idea. Wheels are a dark art.
Fyi, I bought new wheels this summer when spoke after spoke broke on my mtb. Cost me about £100 off Wiggle.FCN 2-4.

Nailed it last night and this morning. Feel absolutely spent.
Chased a SS home last night from Embankment and finally got him on Bolan Death Crash Bridge. (Picture my tongue hanging out, wild panting - but only after I'd passed him, so as not to show any outward signs of fatigue.) I felt like a fisherman who'd been battling with a marlin for hours on end.FCN 2-4.

Well this was my last ride in to work of the year, so I thought I'd try to get my lazy legs going and get there in a decent time.
Had a great ride, realised that if I push harder, I can go faster
Also helped pumping the tyres up before I left - they didn't feel too bad but had gone down to 60psi
No scalps to be had (well, not worthy of mention) Come to think of it, there never is, but please don't sack me - I like it here :oops:Emerging from under a big black cloud. All help welcome0 -
No bike today.
Further to my grumbling post about my ankle hurting yesterday, I awoke this morning to find that someone appears to have placed a quail's egg in my ankle where part of my achilles tendon should be.
I looked on this as a bad thing, and made the unusually mature decision not to cycle.
But it's such a nice day!

No bike for me today (Christmas party) but I'd like a couple of clarifications
the rapha winter hat.. does that count as a little cap? (-1) it's got ear flaps and it's not little
also where does a recumbent sit in the ratings as I managed to drop one last night... he tried to put up a fight but knowing I wasn't cycling today I whipped him good.Purveyor of sonic doom

You can have the point in my view. I cycled 14miles on my GF's bike once and the saddle nearly killed me. Big saddles may be comfy for that 1/2 mile to the shops but after that they rub horrendously
Anyway kudos to you on your pass Christmas Chapeau to you sirShort hairy legged roadie FCN 4 or 5 in my baggies.

Had a good race today with a guy on an Audax bike - He looked like a mileeater. I took him on a flat, he took me through traffic, then I took him on a climb, he took me on the flat again. We both met up at a round-a-bout and I told him to take right of way (as we were there together and heading the same way - not a round-a-bout to be fucked with as it is really busy).
No one won in reality due to circumstance and traffic, - then we went seperate ways. I felt vindicated that I was not knackered in any way and beat him on a climb whilst staying seated.0 -

I don't think there should be an adjustment; it's just warm winter wear. I have an Assos one. I think the wearing of winter garments, whatever its "chopper" rating, can be distinguished from the wearing of a cap in the summer as it is more associated with the peleton.
Btw, I wear a cap to keep the rain off and, in the summer, to keep the rain off. It's also made by Assos. Yes, I know, people might well look at me and think, "chopper".FCN 2-4.

LiT - sorry to hear about the tendon - wise move not to cycle in even though this morning was excellent - seriously I would get professional advice - I have a similar problem where my achilles tendon swelled up (after long distance walk) - took me about six weeks to get it sorted
Excellent day today - crisp but not cold, sun shining, birds coughing in the hedgerows etc - alas not another bike in site - only four bikes in the shed when I got to work - looks like the fair weather cyclists have wimped out again :evil:0 -

Fyi, I bought new wheels this summer when spoke after spoke broke on my mtb. Cost me about £100 off Wiggle.
I tend to ride with both front and rear locked out most of the time. If the road gets rough I flick on the front suspension but turn it off when climbing hills.
Do spokes rust if the wheels isn't cleaned or just snap because of metal fatigue?
Anyway no cycling for me again due to lack of a rear wheel. Training log is looking very bare over the last few weeks.
I hate it when I cant ride my bike, makes me very irritable

Well a great day for cycling, so I had to drive to Norwich and back
Work's just getting in the way of commuting and it's not fair
Sorry to hear about the ankle LiT, any news on how likely you'll be a ped?0 -
Seeing as LIT is now an enforced ped, do we need to come up with a new food chain for her?
It would still class as SCR - just without the bike.
Being cast in plaster must put you somewhere near the bottom....
I would have a go at creating the relevant taxonomic scheme, but it is so long since I inhabited the tube that I am no longer familiar with the sub-species of that strain of *human*.0 -

Not your greatest idea, Lit being a competeitive sort will be chasing every Tom, Dick and Harry down the road, knackering her good leg and re knackering her bad leg in the process
No LiT's be good now, [cornish]don't be chasing no one[/cornish]0 -
Those of you that have read every post (you have right?) in this thread will remember the pedestrian version of the SCR, real players will race NOT race even when on foot and I've seen lots of people who do.

Does this mean LiT is the first SCR'er to get plastrered this xmas ?I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0
