Can you remember if he had "Molesey Boat Club" fully spelled out on his shorts, or "Molesey BC" ? If the latter, then it's likely Simon Fieldhouse, mostly pootle-commutes on a fixie but has a great deal of power at his disposal when he wants to lay it down. He never quite made the Olympic team, but rowed for GBR at a couple of World Championships.

I’ve been perfecting my trainw@nkering skills this week. Out for a work dinner on both Tues and Thurs, and then today took the dog into work (after much begging from a few of the guys and girls in the office). Three days off the bike equals legs that feel as fresh as a daisy.

If it's the former then he's a filthy RLJer, as I've previously pointed out.

I've been resting between roles for a couple of weeks and I've spent many of those mornings at Molesey Boat Club. Given the quality of the bacon sandwiches and pain au chocolat there it's surprising you rowers aren't much fatter.

In other news I was assigned my locker at work today but I'm still awaiting my bike park fob. Hopefully I'll be back laying waste to you all next week.

Pockets of aggressive choppers this morning! One of ABFLG's faves, all in Rapha RCC kit RLJ'ing HIs way through NKR and Chelsea embankment. Whats the etiquette going into the eastbound chicane before the tunnel on upper thames street? Ive always thought and seen the first left as single file then it opens up and there are a few different lines into the right hander? I ask because this morning I had to bail into the opposite lane at the left hander to avoid a crash because some guy thought that it was alright to ride right up the inside.

So much fun in such a short space of time...

    1. One RLJer got a ton of abuse by a moped driver for almost jumping in front of the moped at Jamaica Rd/Abbey St lights. When will people learn? This sh*te behaviour on the roads reflects on all of us.
    2. The setup at the traffic lights was perfect for a bit of naughty SCR fun. One fella took the bait and it was a sprinting effort up to lights at Tooley St with a narrow win for me. 8)

... now the question stands. Why do I do that to myself when I have done two 100k+ rides over the weekend and I can barely walk.

Not the latter. I thought they looked like your bibs, but definitely not the latter. I think I know that SSer -- is he the one with the hi-viz cover flapping away on his backpack?

Rendered a second bike unroadworthy in three days, so now back on the CX. Expensive week, last week.

EDIT: All -- I got to taunt rower63 after Broomfield, when I blazed past him on Friday's journey home. That I was in the team car is neither here nor there.

Yeah, I go to both the cricket club and the rowing club when walking the dog in Hurst Park. I have to say that the coffee at the cricket club is better but Thyme By The River wins out on every other factor.

This was my first time there and really liked it. The cakes and scones were really good!

There was a game on at the cricket club, looked like decent level. Didn't go in though.

  • Nice ride in with a 5:30am start, I got stuck at lights leaving DT which two douche Triathletes I was grinding down slowly jumped. Oddly the cycling gods were angry at me not crushing them earlier so red lighted me at nearly every junction from there to the City.
If I know you, and I like you, you can borrow my bike box for £30 a week. PM for details.

Felt awesome this morning, all chodders despatched with ease, not even that much of a sweaty mess by the time I got to work. Checked weather app, and yep, WSW wind has returned to ease the trip to work.

given this mega extended summer were in and by the looks of it is going to last into August, this coming winter is going to be a shocker, I'm stock up on wood and thermal blankets.

Hmm, I have noticed my Wahoo is experiencing sensor signal drops on my commute at exactly the same points every single day. For some reason always at certain junctions. Even ruined a segment effort today...

Yeah, used to be a straight through, now it's a wait.

Got honked at and told "not to be an idiot" there by a fat tw@t on a motorbike this morning as I waited behind a bus at the red light while taking the road rather than the cycle path. I showed him why I take the road when the light went green as the bus then cut a swathe through the nodders joining the bus lane, who then wobbled into the main carriageway. Didn't make any difference to him, as he said I'd end up getting knocked off if I keep taking the road. It's always fat tw@ts on motorbikes who want to explain to me how I can and can't use the road to minimise the likelihood of actually being knocked off.

Fun bit of SCR yesterday. Dropped a roadie while on the tourer coming up my main climb. He repassed me while I was fiddling to put my helmet back on at the summit, where it goes single track. Conserved some energy on his wheel and then opened the taps at the next town to make it through some lights before they turned. Got through just as it went orange, nice smug feeling. Need to figure out how to tighten up my new SPDs though - way too floaty, keep tweaking my shins and unclipping accidentally.

Then came the closest I've got to being doored by a silly cow flinging her door open without looking. Thankfully I was hugging the road side of the bike lane and have reflexes for days, so no harm done. Didn't even have the wherewithal to get angry, just wanted to get home.

Raleigh has also been a nightmare lately - went a week with 2 punctures a day - turned out the 40 year old rubber had degraded and was piercing internally. Got some nice looking white sidewalled replacements though :)

There are buzzy electrical cupboards by my commute that mess with the garmin and even lights.

Yesterday was the first time I had to ride in commuting hours to the West. As such, I was very excited at the prospect of some SCR given the type of riders that go that way. Strangely enough there was not a lot of competition up until Grosvenor Rd at which point I got absolutely smashed by a guy on a stealth black Planet X - Pink POC helmet, red Sky jersey.
Me being on my main bike, I could see I had to maintain about 600W+ just to get on his wheel. That unfortunately DID NOT happen due to the massive headwinds last night. A quick chat at the next set of traffic lights revealed that he is running 49/16 which left me very impressed. If it is someone on this forum, you can't be that fast on a bike.

Ended up riding with a chap at a reasonable pace through Putney yesterday, was happy for him to put his nose in the wind as it was quite headwindy, had to chuckle to myself when he started doing the elbow flick though, who does that to people you don't know on a commute!? 3 of us were sharing the work anyway.

At the risk of this descending into willy waving. 49x16 is probably about right for a flat commute on a fixed or SS in London. 22mph at around 90 cadence. Spin up to ~30mph at 125 to keep roadies honest. No problems with skid patches if that's your thing.
And if you're on a stealth track bike then you can't really go around on a 42x18.
