No sign of anything an hour later, which I'd say is encouraging. I witnessed an accident on LRR a few years ago that left a casualty with what looked like potentially very serious injuries, and the road was apparently closed all morning for the police investigation.

I went through a couple of minutes ahead of r63 and the rider was on his back but he was also using a phone so it could have been worse.

We must have been heading through there at about the same time, I was only a couple of mins before the orange-hatted rower too !!!

Looked like a fairly typical car vs motorbike collision involving a driver pulling out of a side road.

I was 5 minutes ahead of him and 2 minutes ahead of Rhodri. I was on a black Canyon wearing black / white / pink Viceroys club kit and a red rucksack.

Also, left my bidon in the kitchen this morning so I was chewing Belgian toothpaste by the time I got to Putney.

... and to add to the tales of woe, shortly before this, I passed a chatty group on the Dark Hill/Broomfield High Plains, which included a mate of mine, though i didn't recognize him in the group. It turns out he had a front tyre blow-out halfway down Broomfield, and is now in A&E with a broken Clavicle. Luckily for the others he was at the back of the group at the time :(

Ouch. Hope he heals up quick.

After taking the KOM this week down Broomfield (hitting just over 75kph...), I then saw the day after that the segment has been removed from the normal leaders board due to being hazardous...

Went for a swim at Hampton this morning, so strolled through at around 8.25am. It was clear, but there was an ambulance attending a rider in one of the left hand side roads. So hopefully all ok.

Yep, second time this week, and more next week, and the week after. Can't stress enough how cr@p I am. Fortunately, I'm not as slow as flotsam, but I'm not fsr off.

The question now is: do I go for this run I got up for?

Thinking of the Thames Turbo sprint tri at the end of August just for sh1ts and giggles...

In other news, had to ride home through Clapham and Earlsfield last night, coming from Battersea Bridge. The traffic around Latchmere Rd (?) traffic light junction was a little lively.

  • I promise you this conversation I heard is true:

Man on single speed to female riding companion: we'll just go round there and brake at the red lights
Lady: 'brake' - what do you mean?
Man: 'braking' - stopping. You use those two levers there [points at brake levers].
    Me: Top tip.

thing was, she was prob in early thirties and they were both riding quite trendy single speed bikes. Her brakes were those sillly little ones either side of the stem, like eyebrows (hate those things). Not sure how she was managing to stop before having it mansplained to her. But she really did ask what braking meant!

Strava tells me I rode with Rhodrich this morning but I didnt see him. Perhaps he was one of those Mario Kart ghosts of previous PB's. Or it was down to the huge amount of riders out today. Not many choppers though which is always a bonus.
  • This was last week - and actually, I'm sure she actually asked 'how to stop', not just what braking meant. He said 'you stop by pulling those levers, the brakes'. Meant to post this last week when it was fresher in my mind...anyway...as you were!

Summer holiday for schools is excellent, about half the traffic on the roads! I wonder how many of these cars doing the school run do <2 mile trips?

Agreed, it was mad how much the roads emptied, even after the private schools broke up a week or two ago.

Broke a spoke in Epsom, so was a bit tentative smashing through potholes the rest of the way. Popped into Evans at London Bridge who had one the right length, apologised it wasn't bladed, and leant me the tools to replace it there and then, can't argue with that. Even had a black nipple so it matches!

Thought I caught up with rower63 this morning but it turns out he'd overtaken me on Putney Bridge as I was trying not to go into the back of a coach that was determined to us the whole of the road.

Lost him when we went onto Embankment and an attempted left hook at St George's Sq on the approach to Vauxhall Bridge stopped play. Pootled after that. Wouldn't care but they didn't even want that junction and changed their mind halfway through.

In other news, our bike park at work is outside and just off a reasonably busy road and so I was feeling less than happy leaving even the Canyon there, never mind the R3. This morning, however, I've locked up next to an S5 di2 with Zipp 808s. Either it's more secure than I thought or the owner has different risk assessment criteria to me.

yes I recall that coach, there really was no way past. I was working to keep up with a Pearson-attired rider whom I'd passed in RP but who always kept himself within attacking distance. Was that you who said Hi Magnus to me near Eel Brook Common?
Re your bike park. A mate of mine couldn't understand why the bike-shed in his block of flats was always so full, it turned out it was being used as a bike-thief's stashing-shed: perhaps that's what the Di2/S5 is doing there?

    Yeah, that was me.

TBH I'm surprised there aren't more Pashleys in the bike shed. Red ones. But I think they've sold them all now.

Hot, humid and blowy on the way home. I don't generally go through a lot of water, a single 500ml bidon on a 100km club run, but today I went through a full 600ml on the way home.

Chap on a Brompton (grey / red I think so might have been a Chpt3) was tearing everyone a new one down Embankment.

I bumped into the Pearson kit/Boardman bike guy from yesterday, at priory lights, and had a quick chat. Ryan W was there too in amongst what appeared to be a group of Paceline chaps who'd all done a few laps I think. We all cruised East as an open cluster.

Also, it seems schools are all back again, or else I can't explain where all that traffic came from: terrible. I've noticed too that the ratio of flappy-baggy shorts to lycra seems to be at an all-time high...

been less traffic, to Heathrow but fairly clogged on the Parkway to Hayes, which is fairly normal it was even queueing on Christmas Day, I swear they just like sitting in traffic jams, as per normal bar the parks not another cyclists to be seen.

The "car" world has gone totally mad, seeing the very finest examples of idiot each day as i drive up and down the M4 I thought at least I should be safe(er) on my bike around my own quiet village, but NO!

one of my neighbours indicated left even turns into the left hand road and then swings all the way around to go right all the while still indicating left, and has the cheek to say i was in the wrong for going around them and then proceeds to rant about cyclists, using the classic one less on the road and hopes I get knocked off etc etc.

I can see this fellas front door from my kitchen window, what a total arsehole and sadly this is the norm now.

Wait, wait, my reading comprehension is a bit low. Are you implying that your neighbour wished you were dead, to your face?
