WR I like your style but not your route, you are opposition.

This guy is plainly a high order player. It's all very well doing the right thing in taking your turn at the front but quite another to push up through the line and then challenge the leader (who in fairness to normal embankment etiquette has been left at the front since Parliament Sq by jack Klingons) to keep up by not slipping in front of them....

I did the decent thing last night and got drafted forever........

    I booked the win.

I do love the stories... I've yet to come across any decent targets that put up a fight...

As for your 'pain generators' try cold showers at work (they bring the swelling down) and lots of stretching!

Liking your style Wrath Rob...just one small irk...never EVER complain about your cycling commute to non cycling colleagues.

It is your duty as a cycling commuter to persistently reinforce your righteous smugacity at a foce factor of 10 at the very least!

    He meant his legs.

Thanks for the tip but why would you want the swelling to go down?

Though walking around the office with swollen pain generators might not be a good career move, especially with the current financial climates. Getting home to the wife is a different issue...

Greg, I'm dreading the day that our paths cross as I feel that while I'll put up as good a fight as I can, your speed endurance may tell. Of course, you may be all mouth and no legs :P

Litts, 4 of my colleagues also commute so the first 30 minutes is swapping war stories, much to the disgust of those who like commuting in the cattle trucks.

    So, beers tonight?

Hmmm...to beer or not to beer. That is my dilemma. It would seem straighforward enough especially as Mrs Littigator is out for the evening (GregT I'm watching you...I've got a tracker on your bike you know)

I digress, I'm racing at MOD Chertsey tomorrow so should really be resting tonight and certainly not drinking, but the thought of perhaps a shandy or two (carb loading dontcherknow) is verr tempting.

I can do fast secret under the radar beer but must be back on the road by 7 to avoid baby related guilt tripping.....

I am all mouth and no legs. Also am experimenting with comedy low gearing so those legs are spinning really fast.

  • Now the week's (almost) over, I can break cover. I have been in - ahem - so-called active recovery this week; measured effort and one gear easier than usual. Back still isn't quite right, but riding (in general) and a missed pedal clip in this morning (in particular) are not helping. Ho hum.

However, this morning I *still* managed to be the man on the right of a four-abreast overtaking manouevre that claimed a fully dressed Dynamo. Dynamos. Ya gotta love 'em!

Can make a splash & dash tonight. I dare not be late for Junior #2's birthday evening meal - 6.30 at Fulham Broadway (that's not a general invitation, btw).

    What times are people arriving?

  • Wrath Rob - awesome tale of scalping!

It sounds alarmingly similar to some action I had on Wednesday, yet I was in Mr Bright's shoes.

I am a fellow Embankment-ite and one of favourite parts of the commute is the Vauxhall to Chelsea Bridge drag strip.

I normally start from the back of the grid because my acceleration is that of a small altar.

However, this is not so bad.

Once I am up to cruising speed I take great pleasure in reeling in the long line of flotsam and seeing what's towards the end of the line.

On Wednesday night, at the front there was a cabal of juicy gaming fish (2 roadies, 2 fast hybrids without panniers). My gaming calculator had to make a couple of quick checks....current speed = 21mphish, wind = gusty, pain generators = 50%...now or never.

Pushed out where it widens and pushed on up the gentle incline (for some reason this is always causes me more bother than it should). Hammer was well and truly down and I daren't risk a look behind although I swear someone was on my wheel.

Lupus Street lights were kind and through at top crank....only then I allowed myself a quick peek.....

    Nada.

    Four well roasted scalps.

    Done.

  • Litts, MTFU and have a shandy or two! Or even a lager tops... OK, how about a babycham? :D

I'm going to head off soon and get some gloves - my hands were freezing this morning - and am considering socks with my sandals... which would render me a total fashion disaster...

I was rather underdressed in shorts, a t-shirt, jacket, cap and sandals. Needless to say i was filled with regret very shortly thereafter and had numb feet by the time I got to work!

Ok peeps can we have a view on the FCN on this?

    http://www.elliptigo.com/ play the video

    Cool or not?

Look like it may be good on the hills.

    Thoughts?

It's rather like the thing Litts posted a few pages back which sent my brain into overdrive... not sure on an FCN!

    Also:
More comfortable and safer than sitting on a bicycle saddle
    - No genital numbness, pain, or increased risk of urological problems
    - Upright position alleviates shoulder and lower back discomfort

Interesting... I would debate the 'more comfortable'.

Thanks for the tip but why would you want the swelling to go down?

For the legs, there are two ways to go:

    1) hot shower premotes bloodflow allowing faster removal of lactate and other metabolic buildups and helps relax muscles

    2) cold shower brings down swelling which will speed up muscle recovery and help with repairing micro-tears, but shortens the muscle.

Stretching post 2 will give the benefits from 1, notably helping to remove buildup of metabolites and relaxing the muscles.

However a cold shower is an awful prospect when you're freezing cold...

I don't do the Kings Road, I turn off down Lotts Road and then cut through Imperial Wharf and then along to the bottom of Wandsworth Bridge. Less traffic lights though the road surface is similar to the average Helmund Provice track.

I take it beer is at the Morpeth Arms? I must remember to take my bike lock or it could be a frosty beer outside.

Speaking of the cold, I'd been giving a Kiwi colleague a hard time about his cycling dress. Last week he was wearing 1 base layer, 1 light weight fleece, 1 body warmer, a pair of those arm-warmer things, leggings and shorts. I was wearing my normal 3/4s and a t-shirt. I haven't checked this week but as I've not resorted to a fleece on top of my t-shirt I'm expecting that he's looking like a cycling Bibendum...

Had a great ride home right up to where I joined the A4 and came across an RTA between a cyclist and a Vectra.

It wasn't obvious what had happened except that the cyclist had hit the windscreen hard.

So I would like to wish the cyclist well and hope you have a speedy recovery. Get well soon.

I reckon we shouldn't be too harsh on the elliptigo - sure, it's not a proper bike, but it's one hell of an improvement from *spit* running...

I'll be at the Morpeth around 6.30 so see you there.

That Elliptigo is ghey. End of.

Unless you could attach some flails to the already slightly dangerous looking crank mechanism at the back and turn it into a klingon-thrashing-weapon-of-doom. Then, and only then, would it be not-ghey.
