I can find no good (read: not prohibitively expensive) way to upgrade hydraulic 6870 to hydraulic Di2
Can you buy shifters without calipers? I might be interested in your shifters if so, I reckon I can use my current calipers as the Parabox uses mineral oil.
Generally they come together. Buying the front and rear derailleur, battery mount, cables seem to end up at pretty much the price of the whole group.
Hardly surprising. What kind of fool would want shifters, mechs and no calipers? I'm just being tight. I'd like to go full hydraulic as I'm always thinking the Parabox is a bit of a lash up and full hydraulics would be better.
Well the shifters and calipers are cheap* today

I must confess I saw that andwas sorely tempted, but I'd have to add on a cassette, chain and rear mech as I'm on 10 speed. Makes it not cheap enough unfortunately.
  • managed to crash on way, home just a grazzed left hand for me, though I came down hard and managed to trash the rear/left brake lever, think the rest of bike is ok, though I'll hand it in to the bike shop to check over repair/replace.

In theory I can do this stuff, but since doing this to my self just shy of 2 years ago 3D%20VR%20Image_zpsrs4viwwa.jpg

I've done some um intresting things with bike maintenance, so I'll leave it be.

the rant is this was almost home, after riding home MTB from Holmwood, and I just misjudged and clipped something with the handlbars and hit the tarmac hard.
  • Reversed into by a car doing a pretty awful 3-point-turn. Fortunately I was in my own car (parked up) at the time. Rear panel dented. Other driver seemed to be in more of a hurry to get to work and would only give me her number and forename and no further details. Despite a huge line of traffic no-one stopped to offer being 'witness'.

She should have given you far more than that, "...give your vehicle registration number, your name and address, and that of the vehicle owner (if different), to anyone with reasonable grounds for asking for those details"

  • Good old inept PCSO this morning, sat at the lights, a number of us in the ASL, a motor cyclist who appeared not to be new to his mode of transport parks himself in the box, PCSO on a three wheeler only does anything after 30 seconds of a number of us staring at him, all he does is tell him he 'could get points' oddly the motorcyclist is then parked in the next two ASL's I come across...
If I know you, and I like you, you can borrow my bike box for £30 a week. PM for details.

Getting fed up with having a wet arse all the time. The perils of only having one bike and said bike having no clearance for mudguards.

    Anti-rant:
That surely means it's time for n+1, a nice disc-brake-equipped CX bike with space for mudguard clearance. Any recommendations?

Expensive though. I guess it depends how much stock you place in their carbon, but the Ridley X-Night 40 is twice the price of an otherwise almost identical spec (Alu) Canyon Inflite 9.0S. Canyon actually gets slightly better wheelset and full Ultegra group rather than FSA cranks.

And it saves you having to replace the FSA with something better in the not too distant future.
  • 1. My morning commute with a lovely tail wind had me cruising happily at 25mph. I slow for the lights as they change to red when some idiot accelerates past me and then pulls quickly towards the curb blocking me screaming from the window 'There's a cycle path over there!!!!'

I suggested he read his Highway code but didn't do much good, I smiled and gave him the 'Call Me' then left him to his frustrations.

I come round from Gospit every morning and I do use the hill up from cams up to Ft Nelson once a week-ish. I must just time it wrong because i only ever get strava fly-bys with guys coming the opposite way.
I'll just have to get faster and catch some up.

Ah, I'm going the other way, and not on strava, so it's possible i'm one you pass going the other way - normally about 08:15 past that section.
I'm aware of a lot of people that do start at cams hill and come east, but all at about 6:30/7 every morning, some as far as bedhampton, so it might be your time of day.

Got a video of a guy commuting on a Fat Bike in the rain with no mudguards. Obviously waiting for Wiggle to supply suitable mudguards and slick tyres
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Pinnacle arkose deals are good at the mo, nearly bought one last week, but I've only just restarted the commute, it's too early to justify it it to Mrs P. Maybe in the spring.

Had to start doing a bit of running now that I've got a marathon place. Few longer runs recently and my legs just refuse to play on the bike. Hoping they'll come back to me once the shock of running has worn off

Fortunately I don't have to get the northern line. Unfortunately I have to get south west trains into Waterloo and then jubilee round to CW :x

    Thank god for cycling 8)

Why is it that women have this alledged 6th sense that picks up on something that is totally innocent and that means you're 100% guilty of something even when you're 100% not?

Snapped shifter cable halfway in so getting away from lights was a bit of a slog.

Managed to use the adjuster screws to get into a more sensible gear for the ride home.

Spat on by another cyclist who after a verbal tirade told me that he 'needed' to gob all over the road

I felt like I was having a conversation with my kids as I told him that most people manage perfectly fine without having to gob everywhere, but then even my kids are better behaved than that.

Used CS3 out east for the first time today... Utter shambles of a route, 90 degree bends, random junctions some you have priority at and others you don't... lanes dangerously narrow and frequented with RLJ merchants and suicide peds. Says a lot about cycle infrastructure in East London, if this is considered "good"!

So much more dangerous than the regular City - Kingston route I take - south west london has it good in cycling terms.

You didn't mention the wiggle through the park on shared footpaths - that's a real highlight! And just to top it off - until a few months ago lots of the Narrows Street section ran with the continental drive on the right system. The traffic lights with Cannon Street Road sometimes make you wait for two set of changes of lights before a green for the cyclists - great way to encourage RLJs.

You kinda have to think of CS3 as a comic interlude which lets you get your breath back - any attempt at speed is really dangerous.

I can only presume it is surprise at being reprimanded but I've had responses from 'I couldn't help it' to 'oh well'
