Rule 9 failure. Typing this as I hide from rain under a bridge
oh the shame
stopping mid bike ride for anything other than a crash or mechanical
I felt an immediate public confession was the only way to start my road to recoveryFCN 9 || FCN 50 -
I was a victim of the rain yesterday. A sharp shower in South Wales. Left the roads damp and, in places, wet. I was on best bike. With white Rapha shoes. I went slowly to avoid getting them dirty, then babywiped them immediately when I got home and applied some shoe cream. Disaster avoided!¬My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

No wonder so many lbs shops are going out of business.
Just walked into a lbs near where i work to get a quick link and they wanted £9.99 for a single 10 speed offering. when i said i am not paying that and i could get 2 x KMC ones cheaper from other shops (which there are two with a large online presence and shops within the same distance), the seller started a tirade about you wont get as good quality and good luck keeping your chain on etc.... now i have used both kmc and sram links in the past and never had any issues.
I think the shop guy thought i was ripe for the picking."If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got."

Endless numbers of HGVs blocking junctions so they don't have to wait for the next green traffic light.0

Choppers!!! To the chopper on the old orange road bike & trainers between Lambeth North and one of the Claphams last night - pack the self-righteousness in.
You started on a bad note by talking the police woman down in her van who'd got caught in the bike box at the main crossroads onto Kennington Road. You turned up long after the lights had changed - how she'd ended up there I don't know - nor did you yet you felt the need to point this out to her in the most condescending fashion.
You then managed to ride into a cone through Oval junction, knock it over but remarkably stay upright, part of me wanted to say well done but you then went on to sandwich yourself at a decent speed between another bike and motorbike when things got moving again so I thought better of it. I haven't seen something that close for a while.
Right place for this sort of thing?!Thresholds, 60-80%, HRM's...I'll just go for a ride0 -

Manager is back from holiday tomorrow.
Shame really as we got so much more done when he wasn't here.
And I had 3 days off!0 -
Very hungover commute in this morning not helped by my phone battery dying in the night and my alarm not going off, meaning I woke up an hour later than I had planned. It just seemed to keep getting worse, as Blackfriars ramp onto Embankment is closed meaning I had to cross the river and go via Waterloo/Vauxhall etc. Took the wrong turning at Vauxhall meaning a longer run down Wandsworth Road and QR. Generally lots of RLJing choppers about, although one guy at the lights just after Waterloo complimented me on my bike which cheered me up. was a bit embarrassed and didn't know what to say so I just put the hammer down once the lights went green and dropped him. :oops:0

Kids back in school mean they've already brought home some vile superflu. Had nothing in the tank this am, and am seriously considering having a lie-in under my desk before heading home; or rather I would, but have client drinks in a couple of hours; need some PEDs stat.0

We have nice bean-to-cup (free) vending machines at work. Pretty good coffee.
Pretty also bloody useless if they are all, and I mean every machine in the building, is out of order.
There'll be a mutiny I tells ya!0 -
People who wander up to your desk just to inform you that they are 'full of cold I am, I feel terrible'. Fine, then go home or stay at the other end of the office. DO NOT spread it around. You hear that? He's up there... mewing in the nerve centre of his evil empire. A ground rent increase here, a tax dodge there? he sticks his leg in the air, laughs his cat laugh... and dives back down to grooming his balls!0

Heading straight across a mutant bisected roundabout - lights on green, me in left hand lane just behind a left turning car. I hear a car a bit close behind me so gentle drift towards primary. Next thing, there's a silver Golf to the right of my rear wheel. He hoots me and turns left.
So, I was effectively going straight ahead on an approximation of a two lane roundabout in the left hand lane and I got in someone's way who was behind me and turning left. The only way I could actually have been in his way is if he wanted to drive round the outside of me. What can you do?!Faster than a tent.......0 -

Bought front and rear hubs from Goldtec.
Took ages to be ready. Fair enough.
Last step was for them to engrave them after they'd been anodised. They arrive and they have two different logos. Still subtle but a different font, sizing and even capitalised on one hub but not the other.
FFS. I'm being picky I know, but they weren't old stock, they engraved the two at the same time. Why not update all the logos at once... :roll:0 -

I don't carry one....
Besides, the only way to connect it to the idiot would have been to have lobbed it over my shoulder and that's the sort of thing that leads to all sorts of other problems......Faster than a tent.......0 -
Just got back from two weeks' impersonating Mr Creosote in south-west France.
I can confirm that France is a better country to cycle in.
In fact, I can confirm that France is a better country.0 -
I spent two weeks in Finland for work in July.
Now that is a country that I like.
A lot.
Half the population of London in an area bigger than Britain.
Wonderful roads.
Wonderful attitude towards cycling.
Lots of areas to explore, all be it with a similar theme.
I'll not mention the darkness in Winter.0 -

Ahhh, Finland. Small trees. And more small trees. And yet more small trees. Oh, what's this? Some small trees. And a lake just visible through the small trees. And here is a small hill with some small trees on it. I could go on. The country certainly does!Faster than a tent.......0 -
4 punctures.
In 2 weeks.
Bad luck?
I thought I'd been sensible buying some Conti GP 4's...I've sent a cheeky email to Evans to see if they'd like to send me some new tyres0 -
My rant is that my bike was nicked tonight at Bristol Temple Meads. Carrera Gryphon.
Gutted - had to get a taxi home as well. :evil:You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -

During my stay I began to wonder if I was indeed half Finnish.
It became a standing joke amongst the three of us who went out there that I had returned to my homeland.
Everybody thought I was a local!
The others guys I went with were clearly not local, one is half Turkish and the other is of Philippino heritage.
Everyone spoke to them in English and to me in Finnish!
It started when I was on the plane when someone asked me if I was going home and carried on for two weeks right up to the flight home when the air stewardess said goodbye in Finnish as I got off the plane (after saying it in English to the previous passengers!).
I have travelled a bit for work over the last few years and Finland is by the far my favourite.0
