Picked my wheels up yesterday afternoon. The LBS said the front wheel was so bad it may need a new rim before long. Anyway it seems okay now ........ I'm just wondering what will happen to stop me making it to Thorndon this weekend!? :?
Well, I found. What is it they say about tempting fate? My wheel didn't survive beyond braking hard for the first time, which caused it to be pulled so far over that the tyre was rubbing on the inside of the fork. I've also discovered that I actually bent my forks in the crash & now the wheel doesn't sit centred in the forks. FFS!! I'll probably have it fixed just in time to miss all the good weather!! It never rains it pours!
you sure its not a bent axle not bent forks?

  • Hi!

Have been searching for a regular riding group in Essex for a while and have been pointed to this thread.

Would it be ok if I tagged along on a ride? I live in Wickford but would be happy to ride to meet.

Have a lot more free time on my hands now so are there any good riding spots near and around Wickford? had a play in around Langdon area earlier in the week and seemed pretty good. I was passed by a small group, any one here? I was on a red inbred456 with white z1's

Going to ride to thorndon tomorrow to check that out. Any other spots worth going to?

    cheers

    stu

    hiya,

think it might have been me on singletrack sending you over...

Hadleigh Downs is always good, and when linked up with belfiars, bluebell and hockley woods can make a good mornings ride. Ive also heard theres a group ride from Grips in rayleigh, but as to when I dont know.

Youve also got the mud sweat & gears race series (danbury,, braintree, langdon hills and chelmsford) ask VW he was a race virgin this time last year.... oh and not forgetting beastway on wednesday...
    dont knock on death\'s door.....

Ring the bell and leg it...that really pi**es him off....

I tried the front wheel from my wife's bike with it's own QR skewer. That had the same problem so it looks like there's an issue with the forks. Pants! Rode the bike for the first time on June 6th! Not even a month & it's knackered! Not good :(

That hadleigh downs ride sounds good, are the spots linked by bridleways or road? would love to stick to dirt rather than the black stuff, 2.35" doesn't roll too well....

if anyone has any routes or would like to meet for a ride feel free to PM me!

2.35!!! you expecting to find a steep hill!?

the linky bits are road unfortunately - Theres a couple of guys here that know about the grips rides - muddylegs does I think but havent seen him about lately - the thorndon one will be good if you fancy meeting up with those loons. I think VW out your way somewhere too....

Also dont dismiss the mud sweat and gear races, dont fall into the im not fit enough trap theres enough people there that just turn up to ride around some decent trails for an hour or so... Just turn up to have a nose around at danbury.

Anyone free this week for a ride? Don't think I can do the Saturday morning one unless it's a little later than usual either.
    Cheers,
