Cheers to Rob & Rich for an energetic but short (for me) ride.
Sorry to cut loose so soon into ride, decided to venture further into woods on way back to kart track to have an easier ride that day.
Realised afterwards that it was Asthma that kicked in that morning :( bummer Eh !
Hope to ride with you again and build up stamina to keep to keep up, then overtake...lol

I managed to get over Thorndon this evening. Been dying to get over there if only to give my new brakes a workout! It was nice over there. Hardly anyone about, not to hot & nice & dry everwhere. Perfect local riding for the longest day of the year

Here's the route I took. Only did about 9 miles (wanted to get back & watch as much of the Spain V Honduras game as I could). Is this the areas you guys ride? I'm trying to work out how to string some of the areas together so I hardly touch the roads.

There's a lot of road in there, we don't ride most of what you have, lots more singletrack.

You should come on our rides to see how we string together a good long ride and hardly any of the Thorndon motorway or road.

it looks very simular to routes that i do of a week night, the trouble with doing that lovely DH bit in warley gap that takes you down to the golf course is that you can only use the road to get back up to thorndon, where if you turn left at the bottom of the trail and head back up the hill, there is a path that leads all the way back up to the warley building, the go round the outside of the building and you'll see the foot path on the R/H/S go down there, and then on the L/H/S a few yards in you's see a trail, this trail leads all the way down to the same part of thorndon you entred.

Not out on Saturday due to Familly commitments. Will have to get out in the week, Thorndon or Rayleigh, must seriously get fitness back!

That's good to hear. I was looking on the map I'd generated to try & work out where/how I could string different sections together to avoid the roads completely.

I really need to try & get over on Saturday morning to join you guys. Might try again this weekend. I'll see if I can borrow the wife's phone again. That Cycle Meter app is really good

Yeah I think I know the way you mean. I ended up coming down the bit that I usually ride up (I think the way you are talking about), which does lead back up to the Ford building where the trail starts - I took a wrong turn where those bomb holes are & ended up missing the good downhill bit with the little jumps & drop offs. Good that bit. There's even a little North Shore taster over a tree :)
Then go round the outside of the building and you'll see the foot path on the R/H/S go down there, and then on the L/H/S a few yards in you's see a trail, this trail leads all the way down to the same part of thorndon you entred.
Do you mean round the front of the building? I'm a bit confused about with this trail starts.

The wife is off Saturday so I'll have the car. Might try & get over on Saturday morning for a ride ;)

yes round the front of the building, ride along the path until you see the footpath on your R/H/S. go down there and on your left you will see a ditch (ridable) and the begining of a trail.
on your way back obviously use the other side of the road through the donkey lane plantation. (loads and loads of trails in there)

Cool. Think I know where you mean. I was hoping there was a way to cut through to Thorndon off road on that side of the road.

Yeah. some good bits over there. Again I think joining one of the Saturday morning rides will make it easier to string all the trails together in a good way. As it is I kind of randomly pick a trail at a junction & just see where I end up! Not to bad in Thorndon as it's not that big. When we tried this over Epping forest we got completely lost!! :)

Thinking I might get over to Thorndon again this evening. I'll nab the wife's phone again so I can generate some more maps

If I do go I'll aim to get to the Izumi car park around 6-6:15pm I think. I'll probably aim to ride for around an hour & then head home for the footy

I'll be on my way home by then to watch the game/s (got 2 TV's set up so I can watch both at the moment) Think I'll try again for Saturday morning though. Is it 9am at the Izumi car par?

Looks like another dry Thorndon Saturday ride meeting at 9am Ski Slope car park.

    Roll-up, roll-up.

Trails were really fast all last week and I'm going over there this evening for a couple of hours.

Change of plan - I sort of crashed a bit on the way home from work!! Stupidist accident ever but I ended up buckling my front wheel & disc rotor. Meanwhile the rear wheel got ripped out of the dropouts & I somehow managed to warp the disc rotor on that as well. Gutted! I had to walk home but soon as I got here I jumped in the car & headed for the LBS to put them in for repair. They won't be ready until Sunday. What is it they say? Best laid plans & all that! I was all set for another burn up over Thorndon. Oh well. Always next week

The ride home from work takes me over a narrow foot bridge that crosses a small river. I got my front wheel stuck between the gap at the edge of the bridge & the metal fence that runs along it. I got thrown over the front, catching the handlebars with my feet on the way & pulling the bike down on it's side with the wheel still stuck! It was game over for the wheel the moment it got stuck! The rear wheel also got ripped out of the dropouts somehow & I think the force of the swingarm coming down on the rotor fooked that as well!! Goooooddd!! :?
