I met robert over there today.

It was excellent.Does that man know his way about, didn't know there was so much over there and didn't even touch the surface.

Conditions were good too considering the rain recently. was expecting a mud fest .

I was lagging behing robert allday and by the end my legs could not work no more and had to throw in the towel

Robert thanks for the tour today and being so patient :D

Riding conditions were pretty good at Thorndon today, the mud had frozen solid, so plenty of fun tracks too get stuck in.

Even the lake was partly frozen in the south.

It was parky but the sun was shining. :)

Looks good for some night riding, especially if it freezes.

Probably a stupid question, but how easy is it to get there without a car from Basildon? Can't use the car to get there as parents wont let me stick the bike in the car :?
But I would like to give that place a go, just getting there...

    Joe
  • looking on the map it looks like its possible but on the map it dont look that far :? google map of brentwood ;thorndon and pan down to landgdon hills ... you may be out of puff by the time you get there

What about train from laindon or basildon to west hornden.
Then you can go up childerditch lane , negotiate the a127 carry on up the lane and your at the bottom of thorndon
    Probably like 3 km

My local night ride has got like this, were on public bridal ways which were allowed to use, so no idea why people do this? But it does add a little fun to it, trying to pop over them in thick mud in the dark! :P

Never seen the barbed wire though?

Yep, easy ride. I take the B148 out of Laindon towards the A127/Dunton roundabout (all cycle path), then use the cycle path along the A127 to the A128 junction, then head up the A128 towards Brentwood and take the first left into Thorndon South car park (signposted but it's the turning with the burger van in it). Just take it easy and it's a perfect warm-up ride.

I'm seeing more and more of the log/barbed wire thingy.

I think in some places it's aimed at illegal motorbikes, but we obviously also suffer.

Usually placed there by walkers with/without dogs.....but usually with. They think we have no right to certain places where we clearly do.
  • at least im not alone have to take wire snips with me next ride  still want to catch who it is in the act though  robertpb looking good for sat i think my wrist should be ok by then(fingers crossed) so may well meet you if your riding :?:

What's the barbed wire thing about? Logs wrapped in barbed wire? Gotta be carefull, I've heard horror stories about fishing wire used to stop people from riding places, not good

I can give a definitive answer tomorrow as I will be out on a night ride.

Last Saturday it was pretty good as it was frozen solid. :D

By now I expect with the rain it's pretty muddy, but then a lot of the trails I ride have been a bit dryer.

Thankyou robert. Ive seen on the thread here that there has been some rides starting from ski slope car park. Is that the same car park where the driving range use to be. If so, is ther much riding over there. I normally start at the south car park and go as far as the bomb holes behind fords before making my way back after messing about in there for a bit. But of there is good riding ill just extend my route a bit.

Yes it's the car park behind Fords.

There are a lot more trails than most people use, especially outside of Thorndon.

Come on one of the rides on Saturday mornings.
