Just a quick question would anyone fancy a ride tonight as well, i was thinking of going out to see how my legs would cope you are more than welcome to join me, not going far or fast. Let me know i will check back regularly to see if there are any takers.0

I would have liked to come out, but have a case of the Fu Manchu, doesn't seem to be the piggy one.
Went out in the garden earlier and didn't feel the need to snout around in the ground.
All I've got is a load of kids bagging tin drums in my head.
Hopefully I'll be fit by Saturday for a good ride over Thorndon. Now where's that "Get Out of Crash Free Card"0 -
Ah Robert, Happy new year to you sir0

Leaving in 20 minutes, last chance.0

Had a good idea today; a series race?
Like MSG but a forum organised one like they did in Singletrack (?) We could have one at each of the tracks through Essex and make it like a series.
Would be something to look forward to in the summer and would be a motive to get out and train through the winter months.
If it's a crap idea just say and I'll shut up. But if anyone is interested.... we could start thinking about it more.
Just an idea,
Joe0 -

hmm yeah i suppose hadnt thought about timings. I think places like Langdon Hills nature reserve would be happy to let us, I could probably ask within the next few weeks if i go riding down there. But there are plenty or races down there that they let happen, i just think they would be worried about sign posting it which shouldnt be too hard... school printers an all
If we could sort out the timings, would you be up for it?0 -
Just had an idea, maybe set up a video camera on the start/finish line. Would record the start, then film the finish as we all crossed the line. Could then pause the video on playback everytime the line was crossed, note the time and the rider. would also help if there were any close finishes.0

Sounds fun, I'd most definiteley lose but it'd be fun0
-
A very nice ride this evening thank you Belv.
If you are coming out tomorrow make sure you bring some extra layers it is cold and windy on the hills.
see you tomorrow night.0 -
Morning Essex riders, I have just heard on radio that we are expected to get 12cm of snow today, so riding tonight will be great. We will ride what ever the weather does. See you later.0
-
It certainly was great fun - the snow makes it look and ride like a whole new trail. Come out and try it folks.
Re: 12cm of snow today... looking out the window right now, i believe you!0 -
jpstar - the idea sounds good but there is a lot to organise an official series: insurance, prizes, a course that is challenging and fun but does not destroy the area, provision for spectators, toilets, closing or partially closing areas to the public, marshalls, etc.
Paul 8v - don't let not winning put you off doing a race. I did the Mud, Sweat and Gears race at Langdon Hills last Sept and it was a great experience. You end up 'racing' whoever is around you. Also you learn loads about riding, sometimes taking obstacles/corners far fast than you think you can to keep up with someone or seeing quicker lines that others take and copying them.0 -
when you went out last night muddy legs how fast did you go did you go flat out like a lizard drinking or just a nice pace0

Sounds good, is there a list of events that you guys do anywhere? Would like to do a few.
laos when you guys go out for a ride what sort of average speed do you ride at? Just want to know if i'd be massively off the pace or ok0 -
I haven't got any specific races planned for the year yet.
Speed? Um, no idea. We usually ride for 2-3 hours, often stopping after the exciting bits to discuss them. We won't leave you behind though. Get along tonight and find out!0 -
Can't tonight unfortunately, I won't get back till at least 7 :-( My lights are pants too! What nights do you ride, just thursdays?0
-
We always ride at a nice pace, no one ever gets left behind. Our top speed was 23.9MPH do not know how to get the average of my GPS yet but we do what ever is comfatable for the group. it will be a different matter come the better weather and the start of the summer racing.
we do very regular ride in the summer months we are just riding tonight because of the snow I am a fair weather rider not really keen on getting covered head to toe.
If you want i can hook you up with other groups in the area that ride every week, they are pretty quick and go out for long distances.0 -
Sounds cool, be nice to try and make it for a ride with yu guys at some point, need my new bike built up first, I've now lost both shifters, being about 12 years old they've finally given up the ghost!0

Are there any MTB group rides that start in or near to Brentwood? I'd normally be out on the road bike but I've dug out the MTB for some snow riding and it would be good to go out with a group and discover the good places to ride.
Otherwise, can anyone recommend some trails? in my (limited) experience: Thorndon is ok but mostly dull fireroad - or maybe I haven't found the good stuff? North Weald has some good bits but it's quite small.0
