Have just returned at 6:40 from Thorndon been out for 2 hrs 45 mins.

Some trails are still very good but those are the the ones that are not used a lot, some of the trails looked liked the Grand Old Duke of York had past that way.

Some trails in the open are covered with thick ice, rode down a hill onto one of them and the bike went from under me, landed on my feet, result I thought, bent down to pick the bike up and ended up on my back with a crash to the back of the lid.

In the worst of the mud the tyres stayed clean and everything was ridable.

A few trails are blocked with fallen trees but there are ways round.

Overall it was faster riding than last Saturday which was about as slow and hard as I've seen it for many a year.
Now where's that "Get Out of Crash Free Card"
  • thanks for the info .... still trying to shift this cold .. probally go to my local trails to clear my head before i go thorndon again  need to be on top of my game up there (hope its not to long) cheers robert 8)

Hey anyone riding soonish? Just fitted a load of new parts and need to get out and get a proper trial on them  all ive managed so far is a 5min ride on road to the LBS, on which the brand new chain snapped   although I've "fixed" it so a bit cautious until ive had a proper ride on it.

I',m thinking of doing Thetford either tomorrow (NYD) or sunday?
My logic being the red route has a lot of hard pack concrete stuff now so should be able to keep some speed and it should even out the really boggy bits that is the rest of thetford?
I may be able to squeeze one or two people and bikes into my car?

  • Been the today and your theory is sound!

the man-made (think it is type-one) bits are quite firm

the rest is quite wet & rutted but still holding up quite well,

    enjoy!!

    not far north, thetford!
We saw 3 cars at seperate locations either on there roof or in ditches, the further we went up the A11 the more white it became, first frosty, then we started to notice more and more cars with snow on!
It was really good riding conditions, nice and fast but i think by this afternoon with the thaw it will be super boggy?

I went out with the missus earlier and there was a tiny bit of snow around maldon, some proper sticky mud though, her front wheel got completel caked and we had to stop and get all the gloop off!

Muddylegs visited Cannock Chase on foot and wanted to go back there 'tooled up' but I don't think it ever happened.
Will keep my eyes peeled for future rides then
