i'm only allowed out on a sunday morning
SWMBO tells me that sunday mornings are my times and she doesnt get any time

hey, is anyone going out to one tree hill (where the race was) heard there is some great riding round there but could do with a tour if anyone knows about there area.
also does anyone regularly ride Langdon Hills and surrounding area?

    thanks
  • Hi all. If there's a Langdon ride his weekend that's open to newcomers I'd love to know. Keen to get out riding with others.....

    Cheers - forum newbie.....

i went out last night on my own around weald last night, its very exciting but a little scary, i had two offs, one being to indicisive on which way to go while clipped in and tumbled over! :?
then two mins later slowley going through a ditch (looked ridable in the dark) went over the handlebars and got hit in the back by my saddle as my bike followed me over!
    :x

now got a big bruise on my back, just in time for Alton towers tomorrow!

    I got some of these Asteri 6 lights: http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/f ... -rsp-22901
(at half price which is what swung it for me). Am already a little disappointed on a few points: 1. the claimed 400 lumens appears to be 2x 200 lumen lights; 2. the beam on both lights is the same and appears pretty narrow (based on shining them around my living room!); 3. I hoped to be able to run one on the bike and one on the helmet, but i misunderstood "2x18650 Li-ion battery pack" to mean there would be 2 batteries but there isn't (my fault that one).

Anyway, got them yesterday and did the first 12hr charge last night so ready to go this evening.

Make sure you get a helmet light too, i blame me not putting mine on last night for my off!

They come with a helmet mount, so i was going to experiment with both set-ups to see what i prefer. Helmet makes more sense to me (it lights up where you're looking) but some find that wrong, apparently.
When playing with possibilities last night the two lights sticking out of either side of the helmet looked hilarious!

No because the cable splitter only has about 6 inches of 'split'.
  • If people need lights check out the What lights thread on the buying advice page, 600 Lumens for £40 from a torch and mount setup, imported from HK no import duties, good quality and significantly cheaper than any bike specific option.

I'm still trying to get my bike back toogether so I can join you guys, it'll be worth the wait though , maybe next weekend will be the time.

ooh interesting, might give it a go next time i'm working out of basildon. getting there for seven from cambridge can be a bit tricky with the M25 and A127.
2 weeks time i'm off so i'll be able to do it then, also on that note i'm gonna shoot up to wales for the day CYB if you can blag a day off?

    Have you done CYB before?

    Any recommendations or 'no-go's?

    Hi ML,

I'm keen to explore a few more 'local' trails as with twins coming, my 'away day' and weekend in Wales options will be limited next year!

Thought if I had a nice bag of 3 or 4 places to ride, it'd stop me getting bored of the same old routes....

Do you know if there are there any GPS routes available for Rayleigh?

    Thanks

Been there quite a bit, there's not any one route i would say is not worth doing, the beast is hardcore long and is definatly testing but the Tarwl is hard climbing but rewarding on the down where as the dragons back has a really long long boring climbs but has some great singletrack downs!
make sure you take plenty of provissions and some hefty balls as it does make afan seem a little "easy"
Tubes! take spares as its rocky!

if your off the week of the 12th your more than welcome to tag a lift?

  • Just joined after bumping into another cyclist in Grove Woods tonight who told me about this forum.

Although not new to cycling (have always used a bike for commuting and generally hacking about the town - can't stand being behind the wheel of a car in traffic jams!) have only just got into going off road since getting my new bike (Giant XTC3) on the Cycle to work scheme.

I've been riding the woods local to me but quite fancy trying One Tree Hill as I've heard good things about it. As long as you guys don't mind a newbie tagging I'd love to come along with one of the rides one weekend so I can learn my way around the place.

    Thanks

That sounds like me. I commuted on a rigid mtb for about 8 years before i went off road with it.

    Tag along anytime.
