Does anybody know if a 650B rear wheel fits to Orange P7??0
-
Well thats about 10 days I've had mine for now been out on it about every second day great bike, cant believe how fast it feels dont think the weight is a issue at all. It was a standard P7S that I ordered but some parts are different to what the spec is on the orange site, the rims were 317's instead of the 117's though I'm still going to upgade at some point and it came with Mountain King 2.2's instead of the Speed Kings which is also no bad thing as I see in this thread that alot of people have suffered alot of punctures with the Speed Kings. I put a set of XTR pedals and a DT XMC 130 fork on it which is great still needs a bit of tweeking but I'm getting there. And I've a set of XTR shifters ordered.
I used to think my 08 GT Agressor XC1 seemed quite light and fast but this just blows it away I know it's a different price bracket but I didnt expect that much difference. Its prob about the same weight but the handling just doesn't compare. Will put on some pic's soon.0 -
evo3ben - but don't you enjoy getting close to your mates on a hardtail!
I was at Lee Quarry yesterday and the bike feels so alive, with you so much a part of it! So for me whilst I will buy another full sus, I will always have a decent hardtail!0 -
Here's mine,
P7S
So far-
DT Swiss XMC 130 forks
XTR pedals
Deus XC Seatpost
Mountain King 2.2 Tyres
Deore Hubs Mavic 317 rims
Juicy 3's
On Order -
XTR shifters
In future -
New wheels, Possibly DT 240 hubs with 4.2d
New brakes, Thinking of Hope Tech M4's but maybe thats a bit overkill.
Loving the bike just cant stay off of it.0 -
That DT Swiss fork looks very tidy on that P7 8)0
-
is the fork not on backwards? :oops:For the muddy - Boardman comp frame ( to match the roadie) running saint/ fox
For the blacktop - Boardman Pro Carbon

you'd be suprised how much people I get saying that :? And that I should turn it round.0

Has anyone used the sliding dropouts at the back of their P7 to lengthen wheelbase, so far I've just left mine where they were when I got it, as close to the front as possible. I know the main reason they are there is to tension a single speed chain but what I was wondering was how much difference would a slightly longer wheelbase make to the handling, if any. I know the easy answer is to just try it for myself, which I probably will I was just wondering if anyone else has done this.0

I used to have a P7 (95 I think), great bike, had it for years....
Remember to regularly check seat post if using an alloy one, most are these days, my Syncross welded itself in..09 - Santa Cruz Heckler
03 - Trek 8500
95 - P7 (Dead, but I loved it)
Year dot - Alpine Stars CR300 - Still going strong...0 -
question for someone with the new thicker 09 dropouts with the third bolt on the disc side, on the third bolt (the higher one using the rack hole) is there a washer between the bolt and the frame or does it go between the frame and dropout?0
-
europeandy:
just checked my bike and its goes in this order:
Bolt Head - Washer (smaller) - Frame - Dropout - Nylock Nut (fits into the milled out slot)
so yeah, its between the bolt and frame.
btw, the "larger" washers go in the same place, except on the original slider bolts.
hope this helps0 -
thanks for that darcy0

I'm looking to buy an Orange P7 Pro any day now, but since I live in Sweden I will not get to try it out before hand. So I need advice regarding what size frame to get.
I'm about 5'11" and pretty proportional leg-wise, and I intend to ride rather rough forest trails, rather than fast XC, so I think a slightly smaller frame would be better than a too large one.
I'm choosing between a 17" and a 19", and leaning towards 17". Do you think that will work for me, or could it be too small?0 -
I'm 511 and had a 17. Weight wise i was abot 12 stone back then... Always best to try before you buy though... a lot of dosh to splash especially if you r not totally happy with it.09 - Santa Cruz Heckler
03 - Trek 8500
95 - P7 (Dead, but I loved it)

Im 6foot 4 and mine is 19 inch frame. feels spot on.0
-
I just ordered my in a 17 and i'm 5 11 and a bit! Can't wait!!
Any ideas what the lead time is for the 2010 models are?0 -
I'm 6'4" and treid the 21 and 19 inch. the 21 felt huge and gave me lower back ache.
i got the 19 with a long thompson seat post - It's great0 -
Picked up my new P7 S yesterday :P
It came with mavic 317's instead of 117's on the spec list which is a bonus.
Been out on it and although it smaller and completely different geometry to my old bike I love it! Alot is made of the weight but i've not had any issues on climbs, might change when i have to carry it up somewhere!
It comes into its own when you point it down hill or beez along single track.
Man it looks slick in the matte black as well can't wait to hit up the trails this week0 -
I joined this sport 16 months ago. I’m sat at home with a broken collar bone having been knocked of my P7 by a City Bus so I thought I’d give this a go.
For the past 16 months I’ve been riding my Trek ex8 2009 hard around the Cwm Carn Twrch tail. I live near the trail. The ex8 is all they say it is and more and once you have set the suspension up to its best setting’s for you and for your riding environment the bike sails through the high demands of this trail both up and down. I love this bike.
I also use the ex8 for a local 22 mile canal towpath blast that I do 3 or 4 times a week just for fitness. For this year I wanted to get a hardtail just for fitness, to ride on the canal to save the wear and tear on the ex8. I’m 6’2” and 17.5 stone so wanted a tough bike. I opted for the P7s.
It was the last P7s in the shop and came with the pearl white frame 317 wheels & Pro BB and headset. I too considered myself lucky.
But this is where life got complicated. My plan was to use the P7 for training and the ex8 for the Mountain, the proper mountain biking experience. Unfortunately the P7 has turned out to be such a pleasure to ride; my ex8 has only seen one outing in the 3 months since I bought the P7.
It’s not that the P7 is better than the ex8, it’s not but it is as much fun but in completely different ways that are difficult to quantify. I wouldn’t want to do the type of extreme descent on the P7 that I wouldn’t think twice about doing on the ex8 and I find climbing on the P7 to be easier than on the ex8. As for everything else, there are pros and cons for both and they both give entirely different rides that are equally enjoyable in their own ways but at the moment I can’t get enough of the P7
I have not ridden the pro so can’t compare forks but I am pleasantly surprised that the tora, once set up correctly is supremely supple and copes with my 17.5 stone admirably. And the travel adjustability is a brilliant asset that the ex8 would benefit from. It’s a wonderful ride.
Having been hit by a bus last week the P7 is now buggered. If it’s not written of the Wheels and fork at least will need replacing. So it will be upgraded bit going on or a new Pro.0 -
I don’t agree that full suss is the way to go. I Have a P7 and a Trek ex8. They are completely different tools. A workman uses a drill to make holes and a spanner to tighten nuts so you need both tools if you want to do both jobs. Get my drift.
I wouldn’t be without either bike.
It’s just a matter of deciding which job you want to do. I have been known to get it wrong and take the wrong tool for the job but hay ho!0 -
I'm so glad to find this post! I thought no-one on this site liked the P7!!
I'm really looking forward to getting mine back tomorrow as it's been in the LBS for it's forst service and a few changes. Looking forward to getting out riding on it again trying out the new High Rollers and brakes.0 -
Me too!
I love my P7 - had her since Nov 09 and just posted some piccies in the Your Mountain Bikes section >>> http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12683135.0 -

Here's my P7 Pro at the top of cwmcarn after picking it up from Wheelies of Swansea that day (hence the reflectors and shitty pedals)
and an action one on one of the climbs in the high peak:-
I got it September 2009 as an insurance replacement for my 08 P7, stolen from my car in Bristol. If you got one in Autumn 09 in matte black, with 426 revelation forks, bent crank bros pedals, missing a front wheel and with f*cked brakes you know why it was so cheap.0 -
I’m looking at the angle between seat stay and top tube, or should I say lack of angle. I’m guessing your frame is a small size! 15” ?0
