can you tell me if there was two bands of red on your panaracer tyres? have just bought some yellow 1s and don't wanna fit them if im gonna se the red bead? or was you bead black? thanks

The tryes have a red wall on both sides the the tread is black. If that makes sense ?
  • oh well thats annoying, just got some yellow panaracers, but the bead was red so have yellow, black, and red tyres. Not the best look to be honest! any surgestins anyone? the tyres are 2.10 however the inertubes are the standard 2.35, if i change these will the bead sit any closer in the rim??

red, blue and yellow! red 1.8 on mine. Just did 240 miles this weekend just gone, on my new p7 pro. It was brilliant enjoyed every minute of it.

    Panaracers held up fantastic!

you can get them in blue, red, yellow, think the 1s i have must be factory seconds, they look good but have had to put black marker on the bead to try hide the red bead, but as a tyre can't rate them enough there so grippy, owen seeins as you work for pana any chance of some free blue 1s lol

Lol. I just think they're really good tyres 8)

However one thing which is bugging me is how heavy this P7 is ; especially on the climbs and how it seems to skate all over the place on rough surfaces. Maybe those are just the characteristics of a hard tail.
  • they are a heavy bike but less so than you would think, there is a review out this month in mb uk and they are only slightly heavier than an aluminum hard tail which is £2000, have you thought about changing some components? i know its an expensive option but its cheaper than a new bike!
  • also i put some thread lock on my drop out bolts about 2/3 weeks ago and since they havn't come loose, think this could be the key as they don't come with thread lock on, like the disc/rotor bolts do!

How dose the Marin Rocky ridge compare to the P7 Pro? What is the better bike?

So far (touch wood) i havent had any problems with the anticipated faulty drop outs.

Yea i think maybe the front suspesion fork will have to be upgraded soon. How are your Avid juicy brakes holding up? After 3 months of use mine seem to be fine so far without little maintenance.

Does anyone know whats with the constant clicking for the rear mech area when i stop pedalling? It's like i've got those daft plastic things on my spokes that you use to have when you were a kid. :?

Is it just the freehub? Does it happen if you pedal backwards?

P7 is the best buy of the two. However it is not the best value bike out there and is a bit heavy. Personally I'd think 'On One 456' or maybe a Saracen. Orange are fashionable I guess....if that matters to you.

it is the free body. All bikes (except fixed gear bikes) have a ratcheting system that makes some noise. some hubs make for than others.

Ive got the pro 2 hubs and they make the same noise, a bit disconcerting to start off with but you soon get used to it.

Well the panaracer's have let me down. I had a bad blow out and it seems to have ripped open the tyre and left the inner tube exposed ; not good! There is a hole approximatley 1 inch which opens up when the tyre is inflated. Wouldnt have thought a blow out would have ripped the tyre open :( . So ive now got a panaracer xc on the back an conti speed king on the front. Feels rather weird and ive lost alot of confidence on my local trail. Picking up another panaracer for the front this week becuase i just hate the feeling of the front end of the bike sliding about underneith me!

its heavy cos its a steel frame which give you a far superior feel over an ali 1, as for being fashinable im not to sure about that!(i don't think anyone would buy a bike if they wasn't happy with how it looked, no matter how good it rode) there a well built bike with some very nice kit on it, full xt running gear, avid juicy 5 breaks, and much more, which make this bike great value for a bike in the £1000+ price range, check out this months mb uk, orange p7 wins hardtail test, with 1 bike from wyte costing £2000, and avid juicy 5 winning test out of group of breaks. im not a sales person for orange before you all ask, however i tested alot of bikes before i parted with my hard earned cash and the orange won hands down!

    well, well, well...

the rear speed king went on its first run out today leaving me with a mile to jog home. had a repair kit etc but it wasn't worth changing it there and then.

slightly disappointed although i've had my dads giant (kenda nevegals[sp?]) down the same path down the side of the highway and on two occasions i've got a puncture. you can hit about 25mph but its small to medium stones up to approx an inch in size.

i'm not too disheartened although it was a nightmare from the word go tonight...

    - got stopped by my mate who was caught in traffic so i never really got going.
    - had to stop to change the seat
    - lost my computer after bening attcked by a dog. spent 15-20mins looking but found it (bonus).
    - then the puncture.

one of those days but i was due one to be fair. roll on saturday and a trip down to the beach for the airshow!

Ordered my P7 Pro yesterday. Should be here before the end of the week. Not many left now especially in white. I managed to get a cracking deal as it was there last one and traded in my 6yr old trek. I got it for £1000 8)

I tested the P7 s and was really impressed. Had a good 2hrs on it and couldnt fault it and that was with the pro s forks on so cant wait to ride the pro.
Going to give it some medium riding around my local trail a few times to ensure there is no problems and see how the tyres perform and then i will be off to some great trails around the country for some real tests :D

My views on the P7s havent changed after 3 months of blasting around some local trails. I still think the P7 is on the heavy side compaired to most bikes and climbing can be abit laborious but it does excel on single track and downhill rather well. Its especially good on the technical bits and becuase its packing a few pounds in weight once you get going the bike seems to maintain a very urgent momentum!

Above is a recent ride i did around Macclesfield Forest The maximum speed of 35Mph was achieved through a rough section of the forest with gravel all over the place and the bike remained 'well' planted throughout the section. It really does inspire lots of confidence and nothing beats the buzz of tearing through trees at 35Mph!!

I have a P7 S (I might have posted in this thread before, but I'll be damned if I'm going to read through 8 pages to find out) which I bought a few months ago, and it is great. It is a bit heavier than most, that can't be denied, but as someone who is making a return to MTBing after about 5 years of inactivity, it's weight is almost a bonus, inspiring confidence in areas I probably shouldn't be tackling after only a few months back in the saddle!

I'm also a big fan of the way steel rides as well, it feels pretty springy yet indestructible, and however heavy it is, it's still lighter than my old 800 quid Scott F/S bike!

I haven't had the Orange P7 for long but iv'e been considering a full suspension bike recently. I was interested in the Specialized Stunt jumper Comp but after a visit to the local bike shop they showed me an expert version they had in stock which was a demo bike. So i left the p7 there for a service and took the expert and must say im completley hooked on this specialized :D

The first thing ive noticed is how much faster it accelerates! The bike feels so complete and fast its amazing how it demolishes hills with ease.It pulled a big crowd at the pub stop too on the way back with people interested to learn about it.

I still love the P7 and ive learned everything on the hardtail bike but this is something completely different. I love it!

So the p7 is up for sale. 4 Months old with a recent service. Im not sure how much they are worth second hand so if anyones interested let me know.

The Stumpjumper is a XC race bike so is going to be alot different to the P7 with regards to weight and geometry. I tested a Cube Reaction and it raced up hills, super light but far too race oriontated for myself and for what i want a bike for. The Stumpjumper is a good bike non the less. Horses for courses as they say.

My P7 pro arrived early this week and i spent over half a day setting the bike up and changing tyres etc. First ride out and was really happy with it. Have only managed to put in 20 miles so far due to work but it has been faultless. Once i have put a few more miles on the bike i will take it to a nice killer loop i know
