  • a quick update on two new bits!!!!
decided to give time pedals a crack as my candy's were slowly wearing out, and that i can use the same cleats in both cb's and time! (but not time in cb's or i'd never get out the pedals haha!) and heard good things of the,m so thoguht, why not!! and also finally bit the bullet and got a new front mech! the old Xt one was form 2002!!!
    utf-8BSU1HMDAwNTUtMjAxMDA3MTYtMTAyM.jpg

got some jagwire switch braided gear cables on order so i can use the outers to match the braided brake cables, - very tarty but it is me!:wink::wink:
then only the shifters to think about! (well, already got them planned!!) but they wouild finish off the bike completely then!  could be them or tax the car!!! know what i'd prefer to do!!!!

  • haha! most of it is upgrades from wearing/worn out old parts tbh mark, all my xt kit was picked up from ricci in '02 in one of his silly deals on the net, most of it still works but is prolly on a par with todays deore! the xtr kit is a bit of a case of always wanted and circumstances allow it at the mo!
that and the health has been a bit up and down, more time not on the bike means toooo much time looking at shinyness!
i know i'll Never be able to do it justice on the bike, but if it makes what riding i can do more pleasureable then thats the aim!! am struggling to make it out once a week at the mo, and the after effects are so bad from what i manage its hard to keep the enthusiam up! but its the whole, Enjoy what i do when i get out so makes the pain worth it some more!!
i really think some allthegearnoidea jerseys made up ought to be the next step!! atleast then people can have a laugh with /at me!!:wink::wink:

carbon 456, hmmmmn, very nice!! funnily enough, was chatting to a lad in the shop yesterday about carbon frames, and particularly the ones that pop up on ebay in the far east! £220 delivered for a carbon ht frame with weight of 2.5lb isnt too shabby! (modern version of my old bitsa carbon frame!)
almost tempted as a project bike!! could make a very light whippet bike! only downside would be the rider!!! :D:D

i did make comment that anm rapidly running out of bits to 'shinify' (my new word!!!) now so 'may' need a new project!!! 8) 8) 8) 8)

    Bonjourno folks!

Anyone know much about the Loe Riders mtbers? Apparently they might start their Thurs night rides from near where I live so might be easier for me to join for a ride (weekends have been pretty busy for a while so not been able to join Cornwall MTB or Trailriders!).

Have tried Googling them but it only comes up with some rider results for Soggy Bottom.

Well looks like im now making the jump to 10 speed, got some xt bits coming, a kmc chain and a new headset.

Plus i might be coming into some money which i'll grab a new front wheel, the cheap alex is making the bike a bit front heavy.

Tim will you be going full circle with pedals like i did?

I went spd/atac/eb and back to xtr which i find the best, i have found brass spd cleats, no squeak which gets on my tits when riding.

Plus i've nailed why i've been feeling like death, not enough protein seems in my attempt to cut weight i went too far and my body told me to sod off.

Anyway now sorted that bit out and im well on track, ok i'll probably never be that speedy but at least i can enjoy my rides without feeling like death for once.

Plus the deore mis shifting is getting on my wick, takes two shifts to go up then i have to go down one, least on the top gear ranges, it's set up bang on just probably doesn't like the xtr mech.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

  • ooooooh, 10 speed hey! you going 20 or 30sp?? certainly has potential for for 2x10 but at the mo am happy on 2x9,

no need to say got a set of XT m770 shifters in then if your going 10sp hey! got them in for me but wasnt set on them as an upgrade on my current Xt's, never needed to release my gears in both directoins loL! will save up for some xtr's! hopefully my braided gear cables will be here this week!! 8) 8) 8)

well my candy's needed a rebuild and 2pure are out of kits till next week so thoguht why not hey! when used to them will swap back to the cb's cleats and be able to use both pedals! or maybe just keep the time on and swap pedals over if i want to use a differet bike! (not that i have a different bike to use though lol!

30sp tim, the chainset is still fine so i'll leave that go for now, plus im getting back on my feet been sorting a few things out, come end of the year things will get interesting.

Well thing is tim cheeky shimano have changed hardly sod all in the new xtr, but on the xt you have the option of removing the window which is why i went xtr in the first place, now i can give the big s a nice two fingers instead.

Braided gear cables, ilinks i presume?

The nokons are great anyway, the new ones from crc are anodised whilst the rest of my system because it's from ebay is the older polished stuff and the finish is coming off doh!! still work fine mind.

Funny you should mention a candy rebuild, ever since i did mine they're been stiff as anything, i might strip them apart fix and flog on ebay, i never liked their lack of engagement anyway, that's probably what up prefer with the time pedals, you really feel clicked in the eb's are a bit vague especially when it gets muddy.

Im sure i still have my time atacs somewhere hmm sure i have eb cleats as well.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

  • yeah the xt's get great reviews as they are essentially the xtr witht he windows and a little heavier, but i just didnt feel the love for them! can remove the windows on my current xt's (m752) and just dont see the point in upgrading them for something thats not really any better for me, so will hang out till its XTR time!!
the only difference on 10sp chainrings are the machined insides to 'aid' shifting, i suspect to most of us it'll make very little differene anyways!!!

i rebuilt my candy's a while back when one of the bearings failed but otherwise they'de been Spot on! last time i used them my right foot came of the pedals when clipped in a couple of times, (new cleats in september and not looking at all worn) was going to stip down the other pair of candy's ive got and make the best out of both pairs but they both need a rebuild so pointless at the mo, will get a kit and then see, only have one pair of useable spindles at the mo as they had both seized in despite copper greasing them!!!! so will have a pair thats useable, might bung the cleats on the bottom of my old shoes too, spares then!!!

Cables wise they'll be Jagwire switch's as they do the braided outers in full length and run wit XTR inners! i know that nokon's etc are good but for the price not worth it for me imo! currently running sp41 outer with XTR inners and they are spot on, just i want/Need to have braideds so they match the brake lines!

I AM a tart and i ride a Fully Tarted bike! hahahahahah!

Jagwire hmm that'll be interesting let us know anyway, with nokons all you have to do is replace the lining every so often, i'll probably do the whole lot as the new outers will have the far tougher anodised finish, i had them for 4 years on my tomac and they never missed a beat, i know many don't get on but i love em.

Yeah xtr shifters are a bit pointless, honestly looking at both i feel the xt will feel more solid and in all honesty will outlast xtr, i think shimano are laughing at folk who pay for some xtr items, their mechs and chainsets are still worth it granted but everything else is meh least to me nowadays, i need reliable not expensive and breaks ever 5 flaming minuets.

I've now been through three xtr shifters, the deore though debatable shifting it has been bulletproof, and feels very solid.

No gold chain this time around, i got me a silver one from ebay for £17 hows about that, plus the gold does wear off anyway, i might try connex 10sx stainless next time around, that non hollow pin version is meant to be the longest lasting chain of all.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

  • thats a bl00dy good price on the chain fella!!
yeah i know the differences in the two are neglidgeable but its the whole if i'm going to Upgrade them then i want to Upgrade them if you knwo what i mean!! the only real differenc ei see between the two (m752 vs m770) is the two way release, maybe has some upgraded internals but from my current ones i see little point in blowing the money on them for what is only a Marginal upgrade! (remember i Am a bike tart lol!) bought some home last week and just wasnt sold on them at all, as mentioned, it was replacing for the sake of replacing!

i know what ytour saying though, shimano have people over a barrell, iuts shimano or Sram, changing from one to the other is Costly as its Shifters and Mechs (although the newer fronts are interchangable) so people tend to stick with one or the other! be great f someone like Hope designed a shifter for both to give an additional option

cables wise, i run full outers on mine front and rear so really makes little difference what the outer is! unless ofcourse its the generic rolls of uber cheap outer! they are just bad loL! hahahah! but searched high and low for Decent braided outers, Considered Braided Overcable, but was a ball ache getting the right sizes!! saw the Jagwire lot and the rep from the uk stockists was in the shop so got him to sort a pack out! after confirming its enough outer fro front and back full runs! - he'll be in for some 5hit if its not!!!:wink:

Well thing is the 10sp xt shifters are also two way release plus they have that removable window, i only went xtr because the window on the older xt got in the way.

I do love that rapidfire plus so having it on the tx is great and as a bonus it should last a lot longer.

No one will design a shifter for both, internals for one thing would need swapping plus legally they'd be up in arms, it would be nice mind there are more up and coming companies like superstar so hopefully sram and shimano will get a kick up the backside given time.

Yeah the chain is a bargain, at that price i had to go for it, apparently the campag veloce are pretty decent as well.

    Excellent tg.

Anyway seems that there might be compatibility issues running a 9sp mech with a 10sp cassette, i can't honestly see why because the shifter controls the shifting all the mech does is control the stop points at each end and i know 10sp and 9sp are the same if not similar in width.

    Here's to hoping.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

  • Cant see why matey, will be no different to going from 8 - 9 speed!
cassette will be the same width pretty much and as you said, shifter will control the amount it moves, only issue you may encounter is clearence on the largest cog, but! should be fine! most mechs go up to a 36t cog,

TG was good! Loved the senna bit!

    Anyone come across this before?...

Went for a pint and a walk with the missus yesterday out of Praa Sands and headed westbound along the coastal path. On the staggered gate at the start of the Public Footpath section was a National Trust branded plate with a cycle logo, kinda similar to the Forestry Comission trail route markers, suggesting you're allowed to bike along here.

We only walked a few hundred metres along the path before turning back so I wonder how long this section was.

Did a bit of Googling last night and found a suggestion NT might be opening up more to the idea of allowing bikes on their land, so makes me wonder if there are any other sections in NT ownership, (and marked as Public Footpaths on OS maps) that can actually be cycled along?!

    Lol!

Yeah there's a decent amount of coastal bridleway down around the Lizard (tho not actually ridden any of it yet) but this bit surprised me as you'd only know it was ridable by actually riding up to it!

Gonna have to go explore it I think :D

  • quick update on Mud and sweat for the 7th aug.
due to trail building work at haldon the 'trailblazer' aspect of the event has had to be canelled. unfotunately the route used is inaccesible, wont be finished intime and cant be re-routed in time without interfering with the orienteering section, so unfortunately cant be used,
the Normal orienteering event will go ahead as normal!

    Does anyone have a Garmin 205 / 305 Forerunner?

I have a problem with mine connecting to the computer in that it doesn't recognise it. The unit works fine, it charges no problem (even when connected to the computer.

I have changed the USB lead, but it's not that. I want to try another connecting piece (the bit that sits between the usb lead and the actual unit). If this works I know which bit to buy..

Are you sure it's a hard ware problem, or could it be a software problem ?

I have a 'dongle' that authenticates my plotter software, and that fails to recognise every now and then, I just disable then enable the driver and it works ok.

Tried this a number of times, including downloading the latest drivers, re-installing both the drivers and the training centre.

Just want to check it is not hardware.
