  • mark, for little things like the bearings or cups then absolutley use the local place! when i redid my rear hubs i went there for the parts, also got my pedals and my daughters bike at the same time! its for the bigger items that the deals around the net seem to good to miss! like merlin and reba's, £200 all in!

part of the reason i dont go inas much as i used to apart from transport there is that i always spend more than i mean to! seriously, and that normally means having to go without something slightly more important for a couple of weeks to compensate!!!
i do pretty much always ring up the local 3 shops to me to find prices before i get of th enet just to make sure!

oh, something Tehidy related! Shane mentioned you had ridden 'the goat trail' in the woods on a night ride, and said its very slippy, (runs from the top of the woods down to the bottom through the trees rather than the generic pathway we used monday) is it worth a look?? worth a walk down first? only i spotted it on Monday and thought it looked quite good! fancy truying to find a few more singletrack paths through the woods!

When I went round Tehidy with Steve we went on a few decent more technical trails. Non of which I saw on Monday.

The goats trail is pretty hairy at night as you are riding across a slope. It is tight singletrack (one tyre line) and very slippy in the wet. Just don't look down!

The other area was up near the top where there are about 3 routes down. One (to the left from the top) over a series of jumps and the ones on the right which are quite fast with a couple of drops.

I'd love to join you on your next Dartmoor trip. I'm in North Devon but can drive to dartmoor no worries. Have a mate that would probably get along too. What is the fitness/skill level generally?

    Mark,

I'm hoping to make the Dartmoor ride.

I had a big off about 2 or 3 weeks ago and injured my ribs so I have not been riding much (it was not comfortable when we did the St. Day/Poldice run) . I'm hoping everything will be OK for Sunday, I'll confirm I'm going by Friday.

Also I can't make the Pub meeting Friday........ Have a good one

    Steve

Hope you didn't damage the bike?

Oh yeh - are you feeling better now, nothing serious?

I don't know about dartmoor as my rear mainitou is currently mia, but i should have the bits tomorrow.

If someone can pick us and the bike up id gladly slip in a few quid for petrol, id rather not take the impreza tbh as she isn't far off a cam belt change, which is pricey at best.

Timmo, last weekend i looked for panaracers in ricci and you're right they don't stock them, mainly maxxis and hutchinson with a bit of tioga thrown in.

Ive used bike chain for donkeys years and they're a good bunch but tbh i don't need them as i can service every part on my bike bar getting the wheels trued, may send the reba's their way when the seals decide to go.

The major parts have come from crc of course, for prices they're great but any bits and bobs usually come from clive mitchels or bike chain ala my xtr pedals for example. ;)
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

There is a fair bit of info about the ride on these sites:
    http://yogi.terapad.com
    http://cornwallmtb.kk5.org

And also a thread 'tour of Dartmoor' on here.

The ride will be 20-25miles and at a steady pace.
As long as you are able to ride that far comfortably, you won't have a problem. I can't imagine it will be that fast as there will be 20+ riders to keep together.

As you are a 'Devon boy', you'd need to PM Yogi (you'll see him on the other thread).

    Redruth bud.

Hmm, i'll see what develops tomorrow, i'll do my best to turn up,seems the rears on the scoob are overheating, possibly binding im not sure either that or they don't like my uprated pads on the front.

But i should have all the parts come tomorrow, got two parcels slips sitting here.

Hmmmm - Realistically, I'm probably a little too unfit for that. I think it would probably be best to get a little more training in and do the next one with you. I would like it to be a worthwile and enjoyable experience, not regret it. I havn't ridden that far for years!

I'll keep an eye on the thread and hopefully join you later in the year!

Same here can't make it myself, i badly need to look at the scooby's rear bearing, the wheel is getting very hot, im hoping it's just dry and not worn so in need of a good greasing, fingers crossed.

Got the roco shock today and i have to admit it's damn sweet, can't wait to test it properly once ive read the manual.

Timmo ive got some blackfire wet diamond and jeffs werkstat prime stong for the car, should be interesting to see if it can top my current combo.

Anyway have fun folks, i may be out riding on sunday depending on how things go.

    Laters! 8)

  • nice one dazz!
have you got the shock all fitted and ready now?? should make the bike a hell of an accelerater when done!

car wise, not a bad combo, use the ultra deep shine first, then the Jeffs, then the blackfire and you should have a Very wet look to it! if its good, a double coat 24hr's apart will aif longevity!

Will run the machine over it sometime for you matey to remove any of the remnants from the import centre! will look sweet then!!!

The prime strong is a kind of aio product to to be applied post wash, it's a cleaner/polish and can take out mild imperfections, i'll use just the blackfire as id want to know how that works, i will try it with the uds later on to see how that goes.

The blackfire looks stunning on scoobs so hopefully it'll top uds.

The shock isn't fitted yet, i need to drift out the bushes on it as i use betd bushes, they're much like hula hoops only plastic and easily replaceable, i may have to fit the shock upside down, with the adjusters on it im not sure it'll clear the frame, but we'll see.

But ive a lot on and this weather isn't helping matters, im stuck indoors wondering what to do sigh.......

I will jack the car up and check the wheel for any bearing play though.

Thanks for the offer i'll keep it in mind. :)

Hope you lot are having a good time in dartmoor, weather looks good.,

Ive just finished and tested the shock, my what a climber she is now with the lockout engaged, it's rock solid and with it off it's very plush very close to a coil.

Downside is ive nicked the valve with the frame, couldn't help it as i had to mount it upside down, but it is replaceable and i can use the lockout should it fail on me.

For some odd reason i had to really lower the pressure, possibly due to losing a bit but more likely marzocchi got it a bit wrong.

  • sounds good Dazz! that bike always wants to fly off when you pedal (did from when i tried it!!) and making it a great climber should have a cracker of a bike under you now matey!

Hey guys of XC in Cornwall! We're in the early stages of an Exmoor trip so if you fancy getting involved then do! Not as long as your Dartmoor trip but possibly with two routes for different abilities/fitness levels? Not sure yet.
Love to get your input guys!

  • trying to tie up which is best tyres wise at the mo!!! fire's or cinders! and steel or folding loL! too many decisions for me!!!

I have tried both..what conditions are you looking at using them for? the xc fires are great when the trails are dryI I rode them in 1.8 so fast as well.

 The cinders are better when it gets a bit wettter on the trail rode a 2.1 up front and 1.95 trailraker rear..when it gets really soggy i used trailrakers front and rear ....but at the moment for the summer looking at putting nobbly nic's 2.1 front and 1.8 rear....lets hope the trails dry out!!!!

always get folding as well only cos they are lighter....
hope that helps....the never ending question..which tyre !!!!

For winter i would choose cinder rear fire front, the cinders don't have very high shoulders making them scrabbly when your tilting into a corner while the fires are good for this, but the cinder is great when it really gets crap so good for the back.

Phew, days not over for me, ive fitted the shock, the anti lift kit on the scoob and ive yet to go gym, and ive only had one meal today lol for some reason im not that hungry anyway.

Will read up on dartmoor soon, laters! 8)

Oh timmo, the polish combo works fantastic, all i need now is menzerna intensive polish to get rid of those marks.

Blackfire is so damn effortless for a sealant.
