Looking a bit more favourable for Monday.

Mummy has decided to leave earlier.

Should be able to do Wed night too. Would have thought we will get another couple in as when the clocks go back, it'll be darker earlier.

Timmo, sorry to hear about your knee being so bad.

Helen - you and Jane definitely both won the "owners of most phwoarsome bikes" competition.

Lovely lovely pieces of kit 8)

I'm a bit of a Spesh fan as you may have noticed!

Hoping to attend tomorrow too - raining again today though :(

The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

As long as I'm not too viciously hung over, I'm hoping to be there.
Think wife might take the dog for a walk there too so if any are at "base camp" I'm sure she'd love a chat.

Timmo - is it healing up okay?

    Doh!

    Lots more riding time then!

Still not cleaned the bike from Friday. Just brushed off some dirt & oiled the chain, so it should be OK for tomorrow.

aww, cleaned mine, well cleaner than the last ride, ive angle grinded the seatpost and fitted and tried the new spd's, they're great much better engagement and the bearings don't drag half as much.

See you all tomorrow, that's if i don't get lost!!

the wife will be coming with me in the morning, so will be Me and the trailer with the littlun in and the wife! so if anyone just wants to dawdle around then that will be my pace due to the wife! (daughters okay up to aobut 25mph, then she starts to cry!  )
will most likely do the lower side of the top main woods and then down around the oakwoods trail and back around the lake to the cafe if thats good for anyone else to make a meeting point??

Was good if not a bit muggy, i was very lucky, metres before i got home i nearly lost the bike, the front had a slow puncture so im a lucky bunny there.

On the downside i think my manitou spv rear is up the duff, main chamber seems to be fine but the spv rear chamber had next to no air in it, i did suspect for a while it was leaking.

Im looking at a marzzochi roco air 3pl shock as it's top rated and comes with a 3 position lockout.

Downside being the price of course, that and i need to get in touch with betd to knock me up some custom bushings for it ho hum!

Bike is spangly again, that pressure hose on a low setting was a godsend they should have one on every trail

Anyone used winstanley bikes for bits, their price is putting chain reaction to shame.

This is the badboy im looking at.

    http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/produ ... Shock_2008

Scratch that, there's a thread on here saying how bad they are, chain reaction it is.

Does anyone know the size of the marzocchi bushing?

Again scratch that, ive found out it's 12.7mm same as the majority, manitou just had to be different sigh.

Dazza - sorry we lost you! We did turn back and try and find you but to no avail.

Good to see you all - Adrian, Mark, Lee, Timmo. Shane and wives too (getting the hang of some names at last!).

Looking forward to Dartmoor - I have the full "okay" for it now so good to go.

Slow puncture for me - anyone used those tyre liners at all? Getting a bit bored of repairing flats and not worried about an extra few grams!

Might have to get a Camelbak too so I can avoid eating mud all the time.

It's all kit kit kit! Great fun though - think Dartmoor might be quite a test of fitness.

No worries matte, i got tired trying to keep up, the broken rear shock certainly didn't help all the back end did was bob towards the end.

Besides i had a sneaky feeling we got to the cafe too early hence why we missed timmo.

Second time around i was right and found them, i did point them your way but they didn't find you first time round, i assume they did in the end?

Anway i won't be riding until i get the shock sorted, all being good at best 2 days[maybe] at worst the weekend.

Either way i can't wait to try it out, no point having the spv rebilt as it'll cost me a packet anyway!!

Gl with dartmoor, especially if it's raining, that's one area you do not want to be wet and miserable on.

Last time i was there three girls went down with mild hypothermia, mind it did rain for three days solid.

But it is an excellent biking area, just keep those pressures high, some area's are very unforgiving.

On the upside i do feel a little bit faster, i did promise myself in september come march/april id be out of the gym and in the saddle.

sorry about losing you dazza. we did search for you as matt said.
good to see you guys again and looking forward to it being a regular meet. shame i cant make dartmoor, although the prospect of 4 days hard lashing, surfing and shananigans will be hard to beat.

the roco shocks have been getting great reviews everywhere ive looked so good choice there dazza.

matt - i put some hard tape stuff in between the inner tube and tyre on my dads and cant remember if i have it on mine. i certainly does the job on his though with punctures. its an alternative to the slime stuff you put in the inner tube and isnt as messy (which can be a bu66er when you need to change inner tubes)
  • dazz, sounbds like a good choice matey! (just been nosing on crc myself lol!) should help the bike from bobbing quite so much!
that and the fire xc's should make it a beut for the sticky stuff!

shame we didnt meet up at the same time though! woudl have been good to have known what routes you guys found! dazz looked after the kit at the Cafe like a true Gent whilst Shane and i had a nose aorund to see if we coudl spot you! but seems you may have been up the top as we looked downt he bottom lol!

but was nice to have a meander around instead of the usual blasting! had i thought i could have passed on a small technical section the other side of the Carpark down to portreath and then back up through Illogan woods where there are a few routes! but hadnt thought about it! D'oh!

    Any links?

Ive googled my heart out to no avail so did the best i could, i didn't even know it was designed to be easily rebuildable which is a bonus, plus it's meant to work like a coil shock and the bigger bonus being available in 165x38mm, exactly what my manitou was. 8)

Timmo, the fire's held up very well, certainly managed the tree roots better than i expected, but then again they've always had good reviews.

The xtr pedals were lovely, clipping in was much better im glad i made the swap.

  • i meant to ask about the pedals too! damn my useless memory lol! i might keep an eye opne for some fire's s the trailblasters are getting closeish on the sidewalls! what are they like on the road matey/hard packmatey??

Mark, you goign for a new bike then matey??? needing a new ride because yours is filthy!! nearly as bad as having a new car because the ashtrays full!!;););):D

Friday should be a good night i recon! as long as the AleHouse sells Guinness!!8) might even manage a comedy falling over moment with no bike in sight!!!
