Yeah, I do like a bit of mud, but I've gotta clean Saturday's mud off the bike at lunch-time  (regular maintanance not my strong-point  )

I hate cleaning my bike but I left it for 3 days before after a really wet and muddy ride and when I went back to it you couldnt even back pedal as it had all rusted up!

Bedgebury improvements look good. It would be nice if they were allowed to put another route in to cut the traffic down a bit
  • I still havn't cleaned mine since Sunday! We were in Deal Sunday and it was quite dry then, but it has rained several times since then and everywhere in Blean is prety muddy now. The Crab and Wincle is prety boring, and Thornden woods has a lot of cley so that will be HORRIBLE! Think the best bet is still Blean woods.

heh bit off topic but which ones are they? The 2008 ones? I was thinking of some of them when I change my full suser which currently has some Talas X's on it

    Pikes are 2007.

Rode the Inbred to work today....felt bloody fast compared to the Meta 5.5.2... 30mins from door to door!

Wind shouldn't be too bad as it is quite sheltered in the woods, just riding there and back will be a pain in the ass. Just hope it dosn't rain as well! Of more concern is the fact that Blean is a bog again. I forgot to put my front mudguard on last night and must have eaten a ton of mud. And it tasted bloody horrible!

    Andy.
Yeah I don't envy your trip over from Whitstable! I don't think rain is forecast tonight but weather.co.uk has changed its mind about 5 times in the last 24 hours  Think of it as character building eh?

Cheers for that. I'm hoping to get to Bedgebury on Monday (day off :D ) if anyone would like to join me?

Ill Jion you on Monday at Bedgebury! Im off that day to.

I had a ride around Blean area today i did the same route we did with kent trails, it was very wet with lots of streams everywhere. It was no where near as good as the time before, wet and slippery.

Was a good ride, despite me feeling completely knackered now. Definately need a couple of days break, riding every day is burning me out. Hopefully next time you won't leave me for dead up the hills :)

I ASSURE you that was a one-off ;) Felt pretty good yesterday after a day or two off so maybe that's the key to things!

Nice one! I'll work out what time i should get there (going to have to drop my gf off at work first so likely to be 10ish) and let you know. At the moment i'm planning to do one lap in the morning, have some lunch then maybe squeeze a second lap in the afternoon...

Rough Common was very muddy last night. I can't wait until its all a bit less boggy!!
  • Anyone planning a ride this weekend?
  • doesn't help you but i'm just getting ready to go to blean now :D
  • Also - just out of interest........what kind of helmets do you guys use???

I mentioned before I was looking on the kent trails website with a view to tagging along on one of their rides - but you need to have a helmet to go along.....

Do you guys wear the road type helmets or something more durable like a pro-tec or bell type helmet?

I use one of these. Nothing special but its comfortable, light, keeps me cool and is pretty cheap :)

This is mine http://www.ukbikestore.co.uk/acatalog/info_giro_hex_08.html I also have a specialised helmet for on the road and the Giro is far better. Best to go in and try them on as fitting good is the important part.

Nick, 10 sounds good but not sure on the double lap yet depends on how much energy i have on the day. Im actually working nights the monday night so cant be to worn out for work although i will proberly sleeping most of it.[/url]

Russalf - Just checked with my gf and will definitely be on for about 10 on Monday. I'm offline for a couple of days after tomorrow. Should be back online Sunday but i'll PM you my mobile no just in case

    Any other takers?
  • I finally got my wrist properly looked at, and it is bloody Tendonitis! Not a sprained wrist, as diagnosed in 2 seconds by the useless bint in the treatement room  Might have to have Stearoid injections if anti inflamateries don't work  I am a stubbern bugger though, so i am going to get a wrist support and try to carry on riding. I would have thought as long as it is immobilised it should be ok. Any of you had the same problem before?

As I said the other night, I had tendonitis diagnosed by the doc a few months ago. He also told me I had to rest my foot for x weeks. I ignored it

Sill hurts a bit.... Just learnt to put up with it

That's right, i remember now. Goldfish memory syndrome  How effective are the anti inflamatery pills? There is no way i am staying off the bike for months, so i guess they will be a bit of a waste of time. I have got so used to riding after work now that i don't know what to do with myself in the evening if i don't go out, think i would slowely go nuts......and fat again! Got a feeling i will be able to tell you what the stearoid injection feels like soon

Andy, sorry to hear about your wrist, i broke mine badly and damaged the tendons and such around it. I bought a neoprene wrist support and it did wonders, not only did it support it but it keeps it heated aswell which aids the healing. Well worth a try think i got mine in a sports shop.

Like this one, but search around you can get them cheaper. http://www.physioroom.com/product/Vulkan_Neoprene_Wrist_Support/2035/38129.html

  • Thanks Russ. I just got an LP wrist splint so i will see how that goes. I had a go on my bosses bike and it felt ok, so should still be able to ride, hopefully.

    Andy.
  • Andy, it might also be worth looking at a different stem/handlebar to raise your position on the bike and put less weight on the front of the bike and on your wrist. Take some anti inflammatory tablets (Ibuprofen) before you go for a ride and use an ice pack to reduce any inflammation and decrease the swelling if you have any pain after

Hi Mike. Yer i have already decided to get a handlebar with a higher rise. The stem is already 40mm, so can't get much shorter  I was thinking maybe one of the Easton bars with a 2" rise. Can you think of any with a big back sweep, as apparently that will put less stress on the thumb.
I am already on anti inflamatory's, in fact you have just reminded me i havn't taken this evenings one yet! Thanks  If all goes well i hope to ride with you next weekend. Are you going to do the Deal ride again? I realy enjoyed it last week.

I have on-one marys on my singlespeed, they have lots of backsweep and seem to be pretty comfortable but do look a little wierd

No, that looks too weird! Think i will go for either Easton AE50 or AE70 in 2" rise, or maybe a Deity.

The wrist is feeling a lot better today, so i may be up for an evening ride this week if anyone fancies it. I might ride to Margate tomorrow to see how it holds up.

Nick and I had a good ride/walk around Bedgebury today, anyone planning on going there soon i would advice against it. Basically the singletrack is ruined, even with this dry spell it is the worst i have ever seen it. There is sloopy mud and large wet rutted out sections everywhere, some unpassable we found ourselves walking alot or slugging through it. I would say a good 60% of the single track is in a state where it should not be ridden on anymore.
The broadwalk the club members have put down is good and well done but personally the whole course needs doing at the moment. There is a hell of a lot of work to be done there its just been far to over riden and more popular than they expected i guess.

Yeah i second that Russalf. The boardwalks are a good idea and have been well built, but there is so much "get off and push" type mud that there is a lot more work needed, or like you say it needs a break to recover and dry out properly. The dry bits are still great though :) Managed a second lap yesterday afternoon so was pretty tired by the end and was plastered in mud.
