/\ asking for a Hope District 3!
Oh and nice picture, have to raise the game next time I shoot mine..0 -
@willy B (in the voice of the mafia guy at the start of the Italian job): "Pretty Bike.."
Though hopefully it won't be smashed up with a digger and chucked over a cliff.
I'm wanting to fix up an SS bike but can't decide how to go about the wheel. Did you buy/have one or did you tweek a multi-gear wheel? I'd need to obtain a screw-on wheel before I tweaked it but they seem more plentiful and definitely cheaper than a flip/flop. I like a challenge and a love a good fettle but buying a new wheel and messing about with the spindle and dishing and all that is a bit daunting.0 -
Cheers guys. I do love it, originally start life like this, at the cost of £30

iPete - I'd love a Hope District 3, but the price! Although with Christmas coming up...
Mitb - It isn't fixed. Good old bodge using the original cassette, chain and chain rings. One option would be to weld teh freehub up. But personally i'd just get a new wheel cheap for eBay.0 -
I can see the cassette now I actually look! That's a good non-commital (and best of all cheap) way to try it out. I haven't found cheap ebay wheels to be that...cheap...so I might have a tinker later.0
-
Yeah it's certainly the cheapest option! You can then change your mid if the gear is too easy/hard.0

Atleast you colour matched them to the bartape and saddle.
And nice bike is it the flyer?Commuter: Forme Vision Red/Black FCN 4
Weekender: White/Black - Cube Agree GTC pro FCN 30 -
Yeah, that was coincidence, I nicked them off my mountain bike which also has white saddle and grips!
It's the Aether 10, which seems to have been discontinued this year. As it's a 2011 model I picked it up nice and cheap - it's still available online in a 58 for £415. It's the cheapest version so the spec is pretty basic but it's good enough for me and the frame seems to be quite well thought of.
My first proper road bike so I'm just getting used to the drops. I'm finding I don't have much braking power on the hoods, but I'm a bit too fat to spend too much time in the drops, so it's a bit of a toss-up between speed and comfort atm until I get a bit more used to it. I may have to replace the brake pads as I imagine the ones it came with are pretty rubbish - that may help my braking power from the hoods. Or maybe I just need one of those hand strengthening sqeezy thingies...0 -

Thought I would add my commuter to the gallery, nothing too special, but has all the kit needed to make commuting smooth - rack, trunk bag, pump, a few tools, waterproofs in bag, full mudguards, very capable lights, puncture resistant tyres etc etc.
£550 from winstanleys a few months back, VERY happy with my purchase!

Here's mine,I bought this Allez last year & I use it for my occasional 31 mile commute & weekend blast.
I use those Crud Roadrace II mudguards & a Hope 1led light for the dark country lanes
And here's my original commuter, fitted with rigid forks & full mudguards

Ah! Wonderful bikes you have there, guys!
Especially the one with the seat from the motorcycle. Looks not ordinary.

Hey Mr Cat,
I like the look of that. To show that I spend too much time on here, I then noticed the angle of the rear mech. That made me realise it is on the big ring front and back. Then I thought about the chain line.
Then I realised how sad I really am. I'll take myself outside and flagellate myself with a used 8 speed chain as punishment.
I still like the bike though.0 -
Ha - I deliberately put it in that gear as I - incorrectly - thought that was what you were meant to do for the Official Posers Guide to taking bike photos.
And cheers - this is my Hewitt frame bought off here and I've just taken everything off my Fratello and put it on. Looks very... black. Might get some coloured tyres... pink would look good.0 -
Riding this for most of this year before switching out frames.

So....what are your plans for the Fratello then?Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX
Race - Fuji Norcom Straight
Sun - Cervelo R3
Winter / Commute - Dolan ADX0 -
Its gone - sold to a chap off here. I think that as my fitness improved, I got a bit stronger and wanted to go faster my position just naturally wanted to get lower which I couldn't do on the Fratello because of the long headtube. Gone back to a 58 - which I used to find a bit too small with my Spesh - but it now feels fine.
Will miss the uber-comfy ride of the Condor though so the plan now is to flog my 61cm fixie and replace with a 58 Condor Tempo... in fact there is one in the sale at the moment...0 -

Not that I see many other cyclists about here on the east coast (except carlosdsanchez) but here's what I normally commute on.

For for my 12 mile each way commute my regular hack is my from-new 531 Raleigh Gran Tour circa 1985 (recently repainted) or on icy days, "Spikebike", a 2005 Rockhopper with guards, lockout fork and studded Marathon winters.
