That's our second one of those. The seat post failed when the Mrs was riding the last one. Couldn't get a replacement anywhere. One bike shop told me there was never a seat post made in that diameter, even though I was holding it in my hand and telling him to check my measurements. Got a replacement seat post on Ebay for £5, with the rest of the bike thrown in. They're great for popping into Kingston though, never get pinched. People do tend to laugh and point though.

Yep, you make a good point.
I was locking mine up in town last weekend, a sketchy looking bloke came up and asked "Why you locking that thing up. Nobody would steal it." I was a little hurt, until I realised he would be paying mega bucks for a taxi to get him home, and i'd be cruising in style :)

Right I've finally taken a picture of my commuting bike.
    IMGP1342.jpg
It's a Kona Jake with SKS mudguards, a rack made by someone, a saddlebag with tube and bits in it and Conti Gatorskins. I really like it, it's more than enough for what I use it for. Good sturdy bike, if a bit heavy with poor brakes.

I'm aware of the seat angle, it wasnt intentional but it wasn't uncomfortable.

Asprilla, that doesn't look like a Felt. Looks nice though, I'll keep my eyes peeled but I'd only ever see you flash by in the opposite direction.

It's my Custom Burls titanium frame.

Honestly, it's an amazing ride, the level of comfort is phenomenal with little trade off in speed.

Sadly the completion (sort of, I will be fettling forever but it is now rideable) of my Peugeot restoration coincides with the new job that means I can’t use it to commute anymore. Sad and joyous in equal measure. But anyway, I’ll still be riding it when I can and will commute by bike again some day so I thought I’d share anyway.

Here’s a before and after of my HLE Premiere. This was in fact my own bike when I was about 12 and I was staggered and overjoyed to find it still in my parents garage 25 years later, I was sure it had been scrapped. The before picture doesn’t show it that well but the paint was in a right state and not fixable, I could have tried a faithful restoration but fancied doing my own thing and, whilst I’d defend these 80’s Pugs to the death it’s not like it’s a top-end Cinelli or something, so no complaints about me messing with its heritage please. At least it’s not a fixie. I also have a near-perfect bog-standard Premiere from the same era and wouldn’t dream of painting that.

The style is a bit mix and match, graphics are more 70’s PX-10 era but a little simpler, and I like them more than the 80’s ones. They’re a combination of home-made water slides and stencilling, which took for-flippin-ever and are still a little on the wonk but close enough. I’m not trying to pass it off as something it’s not, it’s not lugged for starters, I just love the graphics. Once I’d chosen French Blue as the colour the tricolore stripes seemed logical and look cool I reckon. Most things are stock, with a few knocking around/cheap replacements for broken things.
Rides beautifully but I am not used to modern road bikes so I am not the best judge. I’d love to know what you think!

mitb, I like it. Nuts to anyone who says you shouldn't have done it.

Some bounder looks to have a put some sort of plastic dish on the rear hub though, just inside the cassette.
Sometimes parts break. Sometimes you crash. Sometimes it’s your fault.

Thank you davis. You're right, the back wheel was fubar'd but I got the 6 speed freewheel off, then used the wheel from the better-nick Premiere. However, I don't have the tool for the Maillard 5 speed on that and thus it's stayed put along with the lovely plastic spoke defender learner plate thing. The one saving grace is there's a metal inner bit with SACHS HURET stamped on it. But I would really like to get shot of it and put the 6 speed freewheel on...I have a bout 6 freewheel removers and none of them would fit.

God, that's nice. (You'd get to work a lot faster if you used the outer (man's) chainring, mind.)

Which forks have you got? Are they Reynolds?

Just checked their website. Might start saving my lunch money for a Ti bike...

    1) If I used the outer ring I'd just embarrass everyone.
    2) Kinesis DC07 fork. Alu steerer, carbon fork and chromed alu dropouts with clearance for 28mm tyres and guard eyelets
    3) I knew you ate a lot, but not that much...

Also, boingy fork, 'normal' bars (yawn) and tyres more suitable for leafy bike paths and the fun off-road bit that is now pitch black...

I don't commute that much though. Need another bike for that (Looking at a Trek 8.5DS for commuting, road bikes aren't really suited for me to use for commuting).

Here's mine. Just fitted some bargain Mavic Aksiums to it saving 300g weight from my previous wheelset which was nice.

Folded into boot of the Micra for lift to work in morning (cures the sweating mass of jelly at a desk syndrome) and then gentle pootle home via Nation Cycle Netwrok Route 21 or the more friendly 'Cuckoo Trail' as we call it. About 8 miles one way. Done a trial run and the first proper commute starts tomorrow.......GULP.

Ooh, there's pretty - a Bianchi in Celeste...

How are the Aksiums?? Are they the standard ones? Was thinking of treating myself when I do my first 100 - some nice light wheels would really help me!!!! I have a 'dale CAAD8 with standard wheels which probably weigh 3 tonnes - the Aksiums are around 1900g, aren't they?

It's just a hill. Get over it.

Hi sam, thanks for your comments. Yeah I think they are standard although with campag hub. They were on offer on wiggle. £180 reduced to £120 plus I had a £20 discount voucher.

    weight as follows:

    front: 825g

    08-11-2011_08.jpg

    rear: 961g

    08-11-2011_09.jpg

total 1786g assuming 'er indoors kitchen scales are correct :);)

They ride very nicely too. Done a few hundred miles london cycle commuting on them already and they feel nice and light and have remained straight and stiff.

+1 to Aksiums, I'm a heavy rider and use them on the commute and they've been great.
