Finished building up my commute / touring bike last night. Here she is! Will still commute on the single speed in nastier weather.

I love the mustard-coloured frame and how the leather tape complements it. You'll be glad you fitted the quasi-bullhorms when it comes to touring; I couldn't imagine doing those sorts of distances on flat bars alone.

    Enjoy!

Thanks! I thought about drop bars but as I had picked up a deore groupset it would have meant new bar end shifters and levers. Maybe I'll do that one day. I double wrapped the bars and it was pretty comfortable for 15 miles this morning.

Needs a couple more silver headset spacers, two are black... Might put bar ends on it too. There are just corks in there at the moment.

  • This is going to evolve into a fixed TT rig, but I'm going to use it for commuting duties for a couple of months as is.

Reynolds 853 OS frame, 725 OS stays and Easton SLX forks.

    Chain's a bit slack.

I like this. And I don't think your chain looks too far from the sweet spot, for what my opinion is worth.

That looks a bot vicious for commuting! And I thought I was going a bit far with my Ribble race frame and 53/39 11-21 gearing which I ride around London....

Just finished. Bought the bike off ebay, kitted out completely (even wheels and pedals!) which shimano exage. I've kept the frameset, bb, seatpost, brake levers...it was meant to be an inconspicuous bike for commuting. That didn't happen.
Reynolds 501 frame, alexrim wheels (off nice bike), shimano 105 brakes, shimano exage action brake levers, fireeye conversion kit+on-one 17t cog, some unbranded 46t crank off ebay
  • Can't work out how to get the pics to work...working on it...
    DONE

Any commuting I do is on this. My current winter bike - frame soon to be retired and ancillaries swapped to something new, but ultimately boring in comparison!

Given up on my Bianchi as I'm now doing around 35ish miles a day and wanted the gears & speed of the proper bike, so my best bike, is also my commute

New best bike next October I think :D

 I've got some black bar tape to put on, had it about 6 months, but always find putting bar tape on a huge effort

I'm about to build up a black n white Dolan and have been toying with the idea of white contact points, but I have a really comfortable black saddle ready to use AND I just know I'll end up with grime all over any white tape I go for!

So I'm sticking with black (and not looking forward to applying the tape!) :D

Nice bike though, I LOVE Giant frames. Got my eye on a TCR Advanced when I spunk on something new for Sunday best.

I'd go for Black tape. White looks great when it is brand new 7 clean, but as soon as the muck starts showing it just doesn't look that great!

Thanks though! Got to say I love Giant bikes (as you can see in my sig  ) Couple of mates have TCR Advanced, and they love them! That would be my next bike.

  • ITBoffin - Nice.

I have an old "Terry Dolan" bike which I use as a winter/ trainer (Black with Yellow lettering) that would 1000 times better like that.

Well it's one of these which I have ordered, a Dolan Prefissio.

My 2009 Campagnolo Veloce groupset (Khamsin wheels) is going on it and I am looking for a good deal on the Ritchey WCS Classic handlebars. Ritchey stem no doubt, as well. I'll post pics when it's done (in a month or so - budget constraints! :D)
