You've been sold a full bike and half a pair of forks, take it back and get the other half asap
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

No worries, I'm saving the other half of the fork for another bike build :D

Seriously though, this is such a stiff ride and the tracking with the front fork is incredibly stable, straight and fast. This is my first Cannondale let alone Lefty and I have to say I'm impressed. The responsiveness from the rear is also surprisingly incredible, so much direct power. So good, so far. Will post a full review on my blog in 5 or 6 months time...

Coming back to the original question, "What hybrid for £1K", no doubt about it, if your willing and happy to spend that much on a hybrid, then the Bad Boy 8 is choice.

Some and indeed most of the alternatives mentioned in previous responses are excellent machines and offer great value, I considered some of them, but with the opportunity to buy a new bike on my company's cycle 2 work scheme, paying £500 for a £1K bike is an opportunity not to be missed in my view, and paid over 18 months as well. Nice.

Make the most of it, if you're able to.

Nice bike, those mudguards look tempting. Are they quick on and off? They look like they might offer more protection compared to my full SKS mudguards.

I reckon I could get them off in a minute, once I'm used to the re-usable cable ties. You'd just have to undo the thumbscrews attaching them to the stays, un-clip the cable tie and they'd be off. My first ever mudguards, so I can't say whether they're better than anything or not, but I rode through some puddles and stayed dry. :D

Is that a Rolls saddle that stops the seatpost hurting you?

Well spotted! That Rolls is well worn, and 18 years old! I bought it just before I started Uni  - it used to grace my road bike.

    @ Roger: Why thanks!

Yup. I have a road bike for Sunday club runs and a Mountain bike for playing on, and this does everything else: touring, commuting, family rides with a trailgaiter and a picnic in the panniers, tow paths and fire roads, shopping, you name it. The only thing I'd change is the bottle dynamo for a front hub one, probably next October.
