Just literally got this in the door, now got to dump the bar top levers and pedals and hopefully get some bigger gearing.
Now with the bits I don't want taken off and the bits I want added. Took the bar top levers off and replaced the split brake outer with one piece, swapped the 18t sprocket for a 16t and the original saddle for my Charge Spoon. Still got the Cannock mud on it though
A Speccy Tricross Single in 56cm, needs a fitter rider though. Can hit high 20s no problem but keeping that pace hurts.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
Just started commuting in Feb. Bought a new roadie but Im using this for work. I've had it about 12 years.

I'd clean that bike at least once every 12 years“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -
Here's my daily commuter. It's also the bike I use for my recreational road rides. The bike's 20 years old. I can't recall why it came with Coca-Cola decals, but that's how I bought it when new. Must have been some special edition or promotion, I suppose. As I recall, it was a Nigel Dean bike, but I've never encountered any mention of such a bike anywhere.
Finally changed to SPDs last year, after standard clips/straps. Rest is mostly original, apart from the seat post and saddle, and a new rear wheel after I buckled the previous one last year by sliding on a wet manhole cover.
SunTour "OvalTech" chainrings, AccuShift shifting, Shimano 105 brakes. The white hoods have done well to remain so white after 2 decades. I clean them with white spirit, now and again.

They look huuuge, or the amount of seatpost poking out of the frame does.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

The Px is XL, the pink Raleigh was 63cm, the orbea a 60cm. I'm over 2m tall  so I don't think any of them fit me properly, but I've grown used to making up for lack of length by having a reasonable drop. The bonus is that my usual riding position is almost horizontal.0 -
-
I was quite attached to the pink one, but I snapped the chain stay. Probably a blessing because it turns out the rear drops were incredibly brittle, and the dyna-tech lugs were essentially push fit. Still, it had a great 80's look to it, so I guess I can forgive its suicidal construction.
Having a pink bike should carry an FCN handicap though. No one likes being scalped by a pink bike.0 -

My first road bike (that sounds like some toy from ELC...). The seller dropped it off today, and I got it for a bargain price. Just done a few miles on it while I sort out positioning, but I'm loving the improvement over my old full-sus which was way too small for me and knackered in every possible way!

Get the saddle sorted or Mrs Deadey Duck won't be too impressed :oops:I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

Yeah I'm a bit baffled by all this movement I have in it. my MTB's saddle went back or forward. I'm pretty sure I can get this one to go back in time if I loosen the right bolt :shock:0

It's not back you want to move it first, it's level.
(I'm sure you know that and have already done it)0 -
Ok, here's an updated pic. Does anything on this jump out at you as being not set up properly? I think I have the seat position right now, and I've managed to drop the bars a bit too. Now all I have to do is grow an extra set of knuckles in my fingers to reach the brakes in the drops...

I'm not too keen on the seat or the strap pedals. Think I'll have to replace them, maybe for a charge spoon as I've seen them mentioned in praise a lot on here, and some clipless pedals maybe...
EDIT: Holy cow, that was massive. I've change it to a link.0 -

Nothing jumps out. The saddle is at the right height?
About the brakes, maybe (and I have no experience here) the hoods are a little far up the bar towards the tops. You could propably move them along the bar further down around the drops by a few cm. This would make the top bit of them more level rather than rising up from the bars, and should also bring the levers closer to the bars.
To me that would be an LBS query/job but I'm sure it's really easy to do.0 -
The hoods look absolutely perfect to me unless you want to make your position more racy!0
-
It wasn't really for a racy position no, it was just that I have stubby fingers and so I struggle to reach the levers in the drops. I've never had drop bars, so I dont know what's right for me yet.
As for saddle height. I went through a stage of bumping it up about 2 inches last night (half inch at a time) and didnt seem to be noticing any difference in knee angle at 6 oclock, I'll probably bump it up till my leg is almost straight then bring it down a bit. Might be an easier way. I don't think it'll be much higher than that though. For-aft(sp?) is where I'm lost as I have no idea what it should be. All I know is that if my wrists ache, the chances are its leaning too far forward. I have a feeling my wrists will be sensitive the first few times anyway though, because I'm used to flat bars.
Oh, does anybody know how much a WTB Shadow V saddle is worth second hand? Incase I find a better saddle for myself and decide to sell this one?0
