This is Project POS.
It's going to sit at Waterloo station overnight, then transport me to Canary Wharf each morning. As such it needs to be cheap enough as to be nearly disposable, robust and completely unattractive to thieves.I picked up this beauty on ebay for £25:
I've since stripped it and cleaned it:
I've removed the front derailleur, the bottle holder and the bar-ends for simplicity. Tomorrow I'll rebuild it with new road tyres and new vee brakes - good rubber makes me feel safer and faster straight away. Interestingly it's got horizontal drop-outs, so it may even get reincarnated as a fixie one day, if it survives long enough! I'll post more pictures when it's finished.
The plan is this will save me nearly £50 a month on my travelcard, so it'll pay for itself in the first month.
What's the starting FCN for this going to be do you reckon? Not sure whether this counts as a MTB with slicks or a hybrid.FCN 6 in the week on the shiny new single speed.
FCN 3 at the weekend - struggling to do it justice!0 -

Do you wear orange when you ride it, trekhead?
(I think it's pretty great!)0 -
hey, I wouldn`t want to look a pratt, would I?ole ginger b*ll*cks / the ginger ninja0

I think a District would look good with drops (not that it doesn't with flats).
Are the wheels noticably heavy? The rims look like Velocity Deep V clones.0 -
no the wheels don`t seem over heavy. The whole thing weighs in at 20lbs
It`s fantastic to ride. I`ve only had it a fortnight or so and now I`ve got used to the gearing - I love itole ginger b*ll*cks / the ginger ninja0 -

Yes, that's the Jtek shifter and Avid BB7 mechanical disc brakes. The frame is slightly too heavy but that's about the only imperfection on that bike.0

True enough, looks pretty good via the interweb.
Vis-a-vis the shifter and brake combo; I'm making shapes to run something similar on my own commuter. I'll be grasping on bullhorns tho; just casting about for a pair of aero/tt levers that'll integrate with the shifter.
But any road, compliments on your wheels. Good job.0 -
It ain't pretty!
Stuck some full mudguards and a rack on my old RockHopper.

For tomorrow my commuting bike is:
Where do most of you keep your bikes? I'd be worried about em being stolen if I had bikes like some of em in here :shock:0 -
A large cupboard in my room.FCN 2-4.

shed/spare room.
normally shed but sometimes can't be assed to put bike back, old red isn't worth much though the MTB probably still is.0 -
By the window in the kitchen so she can see the weather and decide for herself wether I ought to ride or walk to work .I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

This is it - a 'new' replacement for the recently stolen Singlecross. Getting on well with it, though the fixed wheel (44x16) business is taking it's toll on my legs these first few days.

I'm really feeling this bike. Great color combo. I need to get a brooks saddle bag as well....0 -
My current commute is carried out on my GT Zum2. I've replaced the original riser bars with flat bars and stubby bar ends and added the post mount rack and panniers.

I see you have project 2 forks there - what happened to the originals?
I went to purchase a gryphon, due to the review on here. My local bikhut (which are actually bloody helpful and enthusiastic) talked me out of it, due to poor rim build. How do you get on with yours?
Ended up with a boardman Comp instead, which I'm well happy with.0 -

Here's a pic of my new commuting steed, the Cannondale Bad Boy 8, which I've had for a week and love to bits. Goes like a rocket and tracks like an F1 car (I imagine). Many more pictures and an initial review can be found on my blog. If anyone else have one of these would you be able to advise on any potential issues, if any?
