After a new saddle, some bar tape and connecting the rear brake cable this will be my new commuter, oh and a new job would help :D

ITB - that needs to race. You're going to race on it, aren't you? You're not going to waste a bike like that, are you?

How do you post pictures which aren't 4 times the size of the agerage computer screen?

    Hey,

Question from an absolute beginner: I wanna buy a bike to go to work (~15 min far) and generally cycle in the city. I have an opportunity to buy a mountain bike (Scott) on the pic below for 170 eur.

Does it make sense to use a mountain bike in the city?.. What are the disadvantages?

    Thanks!

    Welcome!

It's not a mtb as such because it doesn't have suspension, but put some slick tyres on it with solid puncture resistance (e.g. Specialized Armadillos) and away you go. :)

No "maybe" about it. I'm after a cross bike to race, so, if you don't race it, I'm going to drive to your house and liberate it. :P

    I get a wet arse.

I need to post a piccie of my bike... used to use for leisure only, but I now commute on it. It's a 2005 Scott CR1 team. I love it to bits.

I need to buy some new 'guards for it. It's a lot better than the crappy red bike it's replaced - the only things that have survived are bars/rear mech/front mech/wheels/cassette/tyres/saddle/peddles.

Could do with some better tyres too, but funds don't allow at the moment.....

Sell the Bontys and get some handbuilt X wheels that are strong enough for both road and X

Hi All! I've been lurking here for a while and thought it was time to come out into the open. My old commute was this...

    [img][/img]http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3615/338 ... 6d.jpg?v=0

I had an "off" last year and replaced it with an eBay purchase of this...

I added the mudguards, carbon aero seatpost.

12½ miles commute, one way three times a week, weather and knees permitting.

    Doog.

I was biking into work, down a steep hill at ~ 25mph ~ on that lovely shiny smooth blacktop they use all over the place these days. A car pulled across my path about 80 yards away and I braked. No biggie so far, but as soon as I hit the brakes, both wheels locked up abd I slid into a parked car. Next thing I knew I was sitting on the ground while kind people did the necessary. Broke my nose, a couple of ribs and the windscreen of the target car. It took about 2 weeks to get all the little shards of glass out of my forehead. :-(

I was lucky, really. I wasn't wearing a helmet [I use one now!], and apart from a scar and the still-sore ribs, I'm fine. I now have 3rd party insurance for this sort of thing.

    Doog.

Running fixed, and after the initial system shock, I think I'm getting used to it. Still a bit concerned about leaving that leather saddle out in the rain all day long, but if the worst comes to the worst, I'll just have to MTFU and get a slightly more weatherproof replacement...

The bars are track-bars - riding on the brake hoods is fine, but the very curved nature of the top stretch feels a bit odd. Riding on the drops themselves feels a bit OTT for the commute...

Have you got an extra joint in your forearms? If not, how on earth do you reach the brakes?

When this was new it was "the lightest bike we've tested under £500". It's not any more. It shames me to admit that I once put white bar tape on this.
