  • Ok Ok, I chose the winning jersey lucky me. I would not mind changing the colour if that's what people want. Surely if the vote is re-opened re the jersey design then all that will happen is that a different and larger group within the club will be unhappy with colour or design as the jersey selected received the most points.

    Regards

    PS Matt

can you also advise the road numbers and types of races you wish to hold on them next year so I can liaise with the Road Policing Unit Inspector for the Linlithgow area to give them prior warning and get their advice regarding whether they have any specific requirements. Also If signs are required then I believe Robin's friend runs a business printing vinyl signs.
  • +1 for the new motto. Is it too late to add it onto the shirt?

    Hi David
I've sent you an email with the details. All our events will be club events rather than open ones in 2009.
As I understand it, the police don't have to be told about club events but the policy is to do so out of courtesy.
It would be good if you come up with any more details though - ets talk next time we meet up
As for the signs, I think the Clarion are goig to provide them for us as part of their loan to the club.

    Anyone going to Bill's tonight?

If we do I need to get the spelling right!.......
One M, three N's, no way out.
  • Went out today to Kippen, Fintry and then back along Carron Valley to Larbert so legs to sore to do the Turbo Session tonight. Weather great but average speed not worth mentioning.

Last night we talked about the cycle coach in Fife. i think you said he was on Mycyclecoach.co.uk but I cannot find a link. Please could you let me have the link if you have it.

Good turbo session last night! Went out to Fintry this afternoon on a supposed recovery ride but rapidly ran out of light whilst having a civilised Afternoon Tea. Had to wind it up on the way back, the benefit of big gear pyramids clearly don't kick in on a next day basis only the pain!

Aye it was a struggle to ride into Edinburgh this morning! And Bills session was 2 days ago!
I think I need a sleep, maybe if I curl up underneath my desk no one will see...

Simon I've emailed you Mark Young's details

Has anybody tried using tubs instead of clinchers? Any views on their suitability of otherwise for long stage rides?

The guy in the shop was singing their praises but I'm not sure of their practicality for riding long rides on consecutive days. He says that they are more puncture resistant than standard clinchers, really light and provide a beatiful ride.

    All guidance gratefully received.

    PRESIDENT'S RUN NOTICE

Friends, it may be that we will have up to 20 riders attending our President's run to which all are invited, club members or not. It is simple: we CANNOT meander down the road in a single group this size. Two options therefore:

    1) Split into two/as many groups as are required to assume a safe bunch size, but make each group roughly 'even' in terms of cycling strength. Groups will then motor along at a steady pace more or less matching each other for speed, leaving 20metres or so between them to allow for cars to overtake.

    2) Split groups according to 'faster' 'intermediate' 'slow as hell  ' and complete the ride in this way, meaning groups may miss one another at tea stop.

Since this is a group ride my preference is for option one, having smaller groups spaced along the road so that cars can overtake and come back in.

From experience it may not be the speed of the group that makes people struggle as folk can hide in the bunch, not that it will be a fast pace anyway, but problems are more likely through 'bonking' so make sure you bring plenty of energy bars/jam sandwhiches with you. Look to eat at least one bar and drink one bottle of liquid per hour of the ride.

OS65, could you please email this message to all on the email list.

I'm happy to do it either way, or you could always give the slow guys like me a 20 minute head start and see if you can catch us by Biggar

I rode tubs about 10 years ago and they felt good, mainly, 'cos you could pump them up to such high pressures, reducing rolling resistance. I didn't notice that they were more puncture resistant - I got a couple in races. They are never as good once they've been fixed after a puncture.

You could take a spare set of wheels and a load of spare tubs - they'll need time for the glue to set properly (unless you use tape).

At the speeds you'll be going in the RAAM, I'm not sure that the tubs would offer that much benefit - wouldn't they be more useful at higher speeds?

It would be far cheaper to take clinchers and spare inner tubes, clinchers have really improved recently.

Fathead: I'll stick it on the mail out

  • Tubs are not less prone to punctures but they are safer because they don't come off the rim when you puncture.

They are more tricky to repair, though and you need to carry spare tubs rather that just an inner tube or repair kit. They can be repaired but it involves sewing - as in needle and thread - and glueing; nothing you'd want to do at the road side in the rain. At least that's how things were done a few years ago. Yes, they are a bit faster but less convenient. I am looking into buying wheels for TTs myself but am minded to go for clinchers again.

    Great stuff Matt!

At least I know there'll be someone there to push me up the hills

I was hoping to put in some good mileage to prepare me for El Presidente's run to Biggar next week as I've not been on the bike for two weeks due to a combination of bad weather and not feeeling very well. Anyone else? or will it be a quick 30 miles or so?

    Cheers,

I'm only out until 10.30 - meeting Tobias and Foz to to do a risk assessment on the the 10 TT course - we're organising a Boxing day 10.

judging by how you rode when I was out with you a month ago I reckon you should be fine for the presidents run.

    Matt,

Have you a course in mind or is that what you're going to discuss tomorrow?

Boxing Day 10 TT - what a great way of working off all the selection boxes! That means I can eat myself silly on Crimbo Day then come out and rattle off a new club record on Boxing Day
  • I'll be there, too.

    Slammanan Ho!
  • Oi, Grantus

A 10 mile TT takes only about 25 minutes. You'll only burn about 300 to 400 calories.

I reckon all you can have is another mince pie :D

If you chaps are Slamannan bound tomorrow I don't suppose you want to meet up in Avonbridge, say 9.30am?

I'd probably need to leave Condorrat at 7am to reach the KWM at 9

Yeah, sound good but we'd need to swing back towards Bridgend so will probably have to miss out on the delights of Slammanannannanan

Ah well, that's where I've been a little bit selfish - I'll get to go through Slamannan on route to Avonbridge!

Don't worry - I'll tell you all about it.

Excellent - see you at 9.30 at the wee shop in Avonbridge at the 'T'-junction?

I'll do a very slow first TT next year (40 minutes or so) so I can become the most improved rider 2009.
