Hello Bern,
Grateful if you could advise which Condor frames, if any, provide a similar slightly upright riding position / shock absorbency (if the inserts do what they say) to the Specialized Roubaix? I'm rarely able to call into the shop but passed by today and must say that the Leggero in the window looked superb.

Go in and get measured up 4 exactly what you want, and let them build a bike 4 you...0 -
Hi, sorry, I have been away for a couple of days on business.
Condorman, we should do, best to give the shop a quick call and ask for Karl in clothing for stock details.
Peter, The Leggero is a great riding frame, but geared more towards the racer in terms of fit and stiffness. The Baracchi carbon model has a more comfortable ride and position, but the most upright are the Steel Acciaio and Fratello models.BERNIN RUBBER0 -

Hi Bern
Do you know the status on the '07 Potenza frames? I keep calling the shop but the guys don't seem to know what's going on - last I heard there were problems in Italy. I've had mine on order since October, and am getting desperate now!!!
Thanks0 -
HI Bow-man, sorry for replying late. I have been away for a few days. I can't understand why the guys in the shop cannot give you an update. Any frames outstanding should have either come through last week or will be with the warehouse any day. I will chase this up in the morning and make sure the shop staff are aware.BERNIN RUBBER0

Hi Bern,
Do you have any of your Italia cyclo cross frames built up and on display in the shop at the moment? I'm in the market for a cross bike and wanted to have a good look at the Condor range.
Thanks.0 -
andyp,
I believe we have a couple in the shop on display at the moment.BERNIN RUBBER0 -
Thanks Bern. I'll pop in tomorrow.0

Got an ETA for the Tempo I have on order? It's starting to get close to the estimated mid-feb date...--

Just spent an hour on the phone to Italy shouting at them. Your frame should be shipped to us on Wednesday of this week. It will take a few days to get here, but as soon as it arrives it will be built immediately. This should be the same for any other custom/pre-orders.
I will be speaking to them again later and collating the info together for our sales guys.BERNIN RUBBER0 -
Excellent, thanks Bern.--

Hi Bern
Just bought a new chain for my Fratello. I got a PC971 but it doesn't seem happy with the Campag 10sp set up.The links seem slightly flared and look like they rub slightly on the adjacent sprocket.
The bike was suppled with a non Campag chain, an SRAM PC??? now unreadable! Any idea what the original might have been, whether its still available and what the alternatives might be. I'd prefer to stick with the SRAM quicklink thing as it makes removing the chain so much easier. I' don't like Shimano chains having snapped two (factory fitted) on my last 2 mtb's.
Any help greatly appreciated.0 -
We used a sram chain called pc89R on some 10 speed models. Although it was classed as a 9 speed chain it worked really well and was quieter than a campag chain with the bonus of the powerlink.
Unfortunately this chain is no longer made as they have introduced some new 10 speed chains. These work well with campag, but even better with shimano. The down side now is that the powerlink has been replaced with a powerlock which has to be replaced with a new one every time the chain is split.
This is still also the case with campag although they now offer cheaper 10 speed chains themselves.BERNIN RUBBER0 -
Thanks for the info!
Such is progress - not! Now harder to split chain and possibly not as good as the old pc89R. Why do manufacturers do this?0 -
I don't know, it constantly baffles me. The new chains do work very well though.
For some of those who have been asking about overdue pre-orders I am hoping for some good news when a delivery arrives tomorrow. You will be contacted direct.BERNIN RUBBER0 -
Bern, cheeky question; I bought a new bike last year through a major retailer. A Spec Roubaix Comp. I bought it in July. I took it in this week for a service because of a problem with the front mech and brakes. Both of which may turn out to be adjustment errors by me. However the mechanic rang me back to say that the back brake does feel like it's got a weaker spring than the front also that the BB cups needed replacing as they were worn and when the cranks were taken off there was a broken washer and cracked nut. The Crankset is FSA and the mechanic said they weren't as good as the Shimano (Shimano 105 groupset). My question is should the BB cups be worn after 6 months? Admittedly about 1500 miles but thats not a lot in 6 months. Also should the broken washer, cracked nut etc be replaced under warranty? I only took the bike back to the retailer because it's still in warranty.

A lot of big manufacturers fit cheaper parts to bikes where possible. It is likely that Specialized have fitted the FSA crank and BB because they appear to be of high value, but as an original part they may in fact be quite cheap and helps get the bike to a certain pricepoint. Mechanics tend to be quite good judges of equipment long term as they see a lot of bikes coming in for repair and can see trends over a period of time. It is possible that the bottom bracket itself is a part made only for big manufacturers and could be a cheap copy of an aftermarket version from the same company.
We would normally pirsue warranty claims for bikes sold within our store as manufactuers like to trace everything to ensure that the bikes have been purchased through authorised dealers, etc. The best course of action would be to give Specialized UK a call and ask if they would consider warranty. If you would prefer us to contact them on your behalf please call the shop and ask if they can do this for you. If they are willing to let us sort it for you then we will follow it up.
They may say that you have to do this through the dealer you purchased the bike from, but it is worth a try. They may also say it is wear and tear, but see how you get on.BERNIN RUBBER0 -
Bern, thanks for that, I'll give the shop I bought it from the option to treat as a warranty claim. I just wanted to know I wasn't being unreasonable in the first place. You have reassured me.
By the way, when I bought my bike I had very little knowledge of Bike shops here in London, and certainly no knowledge of the big chains. Your services on this site and the opinions of other cyclists have convinced me that at my next purchase your shop will be getting a visit.

I use a KMC X10 which has a quick release so you can open it to clean and then click back together. I've had no trouble with it at all on Shimano 105 groupset

Hi Bern,
I ordered a pair of Deda 215 deep drop 44cm handlebars some time ago (about 6 months or more), have you had any in?

Hi Bern
Do you know of any 26" rims with 40 holes please? (for a Hope tandem hub)
I can only find Velocity Aeroheat but not a UK source. It would be well worth a trip to Grays Inn if you had one!
Thanks Chris0 -
Tom753, Was this in the shop? IF you call and ask for Peter he will be able to confirm shop stock. At our warehouse we jsut have 215 in shallow and Newton oversize in Deep at present.
CPeachey, We don't have anything in stock, but Ison import a Salsa rim called Gordo/XC Tour 26" rim which is 27mm wide and has a braced cross section to make a bomb-proof rim. They are œ39.99 and are black. Any shop who deals with Ison should be able to scource them for you.BERNIN RUBBER0 -
Thanks Bern It seems anything I want has been discontinued! I'll get my LBS on to it.
