Thanks for that. Me+baggage (tubus+carradice) should be around 90-5kg mark, will this pose any problems?
Any further news on warranty? Small print in your catalogue states ltd lifetime on steel, ltd 2yr on aluminuim and composite. Can l claim a CTC discount, or order via cycle-to-work if my workplace authorise this scheme? Ta once again.0 -
That should not be a problem as a combined weight at all.
At the moment it would be the 2yr on Titanium, but this will probably go up next year. We have only been using Titanium in a big way for the past 2 years with samples going back just a year further. As we scource from a reputable company we are confident that these frames will last a whole lot longer. Manufacuring defects are normally honoured. We tend to look at warranty claims individually as some bikes are looked after and others are totally misused. We have one customer at the moment who had an unfortunate accident with his Ti frame so we are trying to get it repaired for him, hopefully without charge.
We can't offer CTC discount on bikes as we build them as a package to start with, but like most stores we do a CTC discount on most accessories.
We do work with the cycle-to-work scheme. Our co-ordinator is Greg.BERNIN RUBBER0 -
Hi Bern
Is that a flat bar Gran Fondo that Jon Snow is riding in the Grauniad cycling supplement last Saturday? He looks very tall.0 -
It is indeed. He is very tall.BERNIN RUBBER0

Bern - Like the preliminaries of the new site.
A question regarding Deda. Black Rain carbon forks (metal drop-outs):
Am I safe to put the bike on my car carrier (yes, sacrilege - putting the Audax on a tin-top!) - It's the type that attaches to the front fork?
There's been some forum opinion floating around regarding potential to pull drop-outs from carbon forks on carriers.
J.
P.S: I noticed there's a minor typo. - One of your pages is named: FaltbarRoad_07.pdf !0 -
I have to ask Bern, with all due respect, why on earth do Condors have their bikes available in Halfords? Hardly the best of bike establishments to show off your latest models.
I mean, of course i can see your point if you tell me it's to sell more bikes naturally, and of course raise the profile of the brand, but don't you feel also it could damage your reputation if bikes are returned because of problems in the build up process or whatever?
I just think it's a great shame to see such a great name in the cycle industry being available in a box shifters such as Halfords.
SIZE IS EVERYTHING! or at least that's what my LBS tells me.0 -
Bern. Like the new website, however you've lost the links to the online shop, plus some other stuff that was useful...

All you're seeing is a temporary splash page I'm sure. When the site is ready it will probably look different to what you are viewing now.

JWS, These types of racks are never good for any kind of dropout. It all depends on how you drive. Throw the car around corners and you will put a lot of force on the fork, be nice and gentle and you will cause less harm. Most rack manufacturers suggest speed limits when carrying bikes on top or on the back of cars, but it is quite common to see some driven at 100mph plus which is a big no no. Thanks for the tip on the typo.BERNIN RUBBER0

Giant Man, Sorry our bikes are not in Halfords, but Bike Hut who are a seperate company. Our brand is not going nationwide with Halfords and they are only in one particular branch. They also stock other brands such as De Rosa and Van Nicholas as they are aiming at the quality end of the market.
I can't really say a lot more than that as the decision is not all mine. I do, however make sure all of the bikes supplied to them are built by our own mechanics to our exacting standards rather than part-built, boxed and shipped out.
For us it is at present a trial.BERNIN RUBBER0 -
Cheers Bern - Nice to get some industry comment on these cycle racks.
It's actually inside the car, so at least the speed element isn't so much of an issue!
Point taken on cornering forces. Will modify my older rack to go inside (braces against down-tube instead).0 -
Thanks for the info bern. I have to say the Condor brand is worth sooo much more. But i do hope it's successful for you.
SIZE IS EVERYTHING! or at least that's what my LBS tells me.0 -
JWS, being inside the car is a bonus, if the bike can be stablized to prevent wobble then there should be no issue with the forks. Problems only occur when the fork is fixed and the bike has the opportunity to flex from side to side putting pressure on the dropouts.
Giant man, no problem. It will be monitered closely. We have had many enquiries from independant cycle stores to stock some of our range. They want to be a specialist shop and we expect the sales staff to understand our brand completely. They have had some training, but this will be on-going to ensure the standards we expect.
The main difference is that they will not be offered with the full customisation as in our own store.BERNIN RUBBER0 -
Bern,
Quick question:
What's the handlebar tape used on the Leggero (among others) in the catalogue?
It looks lush.0 -
Gran E. Gear, it is called Eleganza and is made by Bike Ribbon. It is quite grippy and one of my favourites.BERNIN RUBBER0
-
Wondering if it's similar to Stella Azzura's Eleganza?

It is exactly the same, different box, same manufacturer.BERNIN RUBBER0

Hello Bern - can you tell me what the lead times are roughly for Fratellos at the minute. Want to try and line up an order with my company's implementation of cycling schemes to get my hands on it a.s.a.p.!0
-
Turnaround time can be up to 3 weeks, but we are running under 2 weeks at the moment, providing the size and colour are stock, most are.BERNIN RUBBER0

Bern, I saw some Condors in Bike Hut in Putney, and was quite surprised. I'd be wary about the affect on the brand. Part of what makes Condor such a good company is the whole experience you get from the staff at the shop. Even with the best of intentions, Bike Hut will always have other suppliers to look after, and so it's kinda inevitable that your reputation will be affected in some way or other!0
-
Hi Andy, I do understand where you are coming from. We have made it known that we would like to supply other independant bike stores with our brand so the opportunity has been there for everyone. We would like to get the bikes out to other areas of the country as we get calls every day asking where customers can see our brand locally.
It is currenly a trial and we will be monitoring it very closely. As you know we have high standards and we want to ensure this carries on wherever our bikes are sold. Our bikes will not be offered in Halfords main stores and sales staff will be trained the Condor way.BERNIN RUBBER0 -
bern - one of your lads put a drop of oil on my potenza chain today, and i never thought to ask what it was. it seems like really good stuff, it's made a big difference to the noisy chain.

Sorry, no idea, was it in the shop or down in the workshop. We have a couple of new lubes at the moment. There is a new finish line gold line which is made up of minute slippy bearings which some of the guys are testing and one called prolink gold which seems to be popularBERNIN RUBBER0

they took it down the workshop - think it's a wet lube?

Found out that it would have been Finish Line Cross Country which is a wet lube they tend to use more of in the workshop during the winter.BERNIN RUBBER0

thanks bern, i'll pick a bottle up next time i'm in.

bern, the Deda Black Rain carbon forks, are you going to be selling those separately and, if so, how much?
(And, just to check they're 1" aluminium steerer aren't they?)
