    Bern,
You may note an adjacent Forum thread concerning the internal protection of steel frames. As Condor major on steel, and as I am considering buying one, could you comment on Condor's approach to this?

  • I prefer my route to side roads etc, the only bit I don't like is near to Highbury cemetery I think it is. I leave Borehamwood about 8.50 and it takes between 50 and 60 minutes. I might not do it next week though.

Saw the first batch of Pista as they were being packed on Friday and the finish has improved a lot. The only down side is that they have spent longer on them so the wait has gone up. Trying to get the pre-ordered Potenza frames over or at least despatched before Christmas.

Please bear in mind that there seem to be a hundred holiday days in Italy. When there is a holiday on a Thursday they usually add the Friday in as well to make a long weekend of it. This means they tend to work a 3 day week for most of the year. Put in a 3 hour lunch and you can see why delivery dates get missed.

Will be looking forward to 2008 and see where we can improve delivery times. I have brought forward dates for the last 5 years, but sales have always increased more than forcasts. Eventually we will get to the point where we will have stock for showtime in September.

    Never even got any pizza.

    TR,

We have all of our steel and alloy frames coated with an anti-corrosive treatment to help prevent this. Internally the steel tubes are usually coated in a protective grease, but this does disapear after heating around the joints. We used to stock an internal frame protective coating that could be sprayed inside. I will see if it is still available.

The best thing that can be done for steel frames or any frame really is to keep your bike dry and stored in a dry room away from damp.

Also be aware of sweat when dripping on the top tube as it can be very corrosive. It is a good idea to clean all areas where sweat or winter salt can gather, patrticularly around brake and gear stops.

Took delivery of my Fratello on Saturday and road it back from Kings Cross to Borehamwood. Very happy - its a lovely bike and I think I am going to ahve a lot of fun on it, and get a lot of use as well.

So thanks to Ronan (?) and the rest of you guys for sorting it out, despite the delays.

I have recently got a Pista and the saddle that comes with it is very good. It is a Selle Royal - Spook. I would like to get others but cant find any information about it on the web.

will get more news v.soon pistonbrew.

Glad to hear it Richard, hopefully all will be satisfied soon.

Thanks pb21, it is not available generally as it is only available as orignal equipment for now, but you may see it branded by other saddle companies in the future. I have checked Selle Royal's website and it is not featured yet. Hopefully it will be in the future. We were using another model called Viper which is still specced now, but the Spook is a narrower, more racy version.

    Hi Bern,

Just wanted to say thanks for the Fratello I picked up last Friday - Absolutely superb, and well worth the wait.
Ronan did his usual superb job with the pre-delivery / general advice / assistance with ancillary purchases.
Neil's been very patient with my torrent of special requests/customisations and questions.
Thanks for your your help and attention, and keeping me in the loop with the build progress too.
I won't get to ride it until Saturday now, however that inaugural 40 mile commute home was just the tonic to get me back out on the road, and have me planning the next few rides.

Agree with whoever made the comment about the colour choices for the Tempo. I would have liked to order mine in black but I'll happily take the Deep Red one I have on order...

Greenbank, colour is a difficult thing. Black seems to have crept into most of the range this year. Your suggestion will be logged for 2008 though.I can't wait for the usual heated discussions we normally have about colours.

Thanks Bern. Don't want to start another heated discussion about it.

I'm happy with the current choice for the Tempo: "Any colour you like as long as it's Deep Red."

Any idea when the new condor website will be up? It's lunchtime and I need to do a spot of bike drooling etc...And also start convincing the wife that a Fratello in the hallway is exactly what we need...

You can drool at this page in the mean time:-

(It's an entirely work safe page on roadcyclinguk.com although your productivity might suffer for the rest of the afternoon...)

alansmithy, there should be a temporary brochure going up very soon. They are also in the shop now. Greenbank, thanks for popping the link up.

  • Hi Bern

What would the lead time be if a mate was to order one of the remaining coffee and cream Leggero's that are still available with a Record build?

(whoever thought a poo brown bike would look so cool!!?? [:D])

I think all Record 06 has now gone, but you may need to check with the shop for this. Lead time is up to 3 weeks, but I believe the workshop is well ahead of schedule, just depends on how urgent each build is, etc.

  • Thanks Bern (and Greenbank) - bike drooling is a dangerous habit (it can corrode metal)...

Seriously, it will be good to see the new line up as I didn't manage to get to the cycle show last year. Bern - one of the linked Condor articles by Greenbank was about a new mail order/warehouse facility. I guess Condor is expanding, which can only be good - but I presume there are no actual plans for changes/moves to the shop etc?

If anyone knows of a larger premises in Grays Inn Road then we would consider it. Mail order will come eventually, but not in a massive way.

  • Hi Bern,

Do Condor sell single ergo levers or just matched pairs?

I took my commuting bike in for service in my local shop (not doing that again!) When I picked it up the front derailleur cable seemed very tight and about 10 mins of riding later the front ergo lever has broken. The lever and button move freely but don't pull the cable. The bike shop don't seem to care and say that they don't service Campag. I don't know if it's repairable or if the cost of the repair is higher than the cost of the replacement (Xenon front ergo lever).

Any ideas on what the best course of action would be? It's mainly used for commuting so I'd only be looking for xenon/mirage level kit. If it's relevant the current kit is ~2002 9sp xenon.

    Cheers,

    Ed

    Ed,

You didn't use that "shower" on Mill Road did you?

    John
  • Shower? Now I'm confused! No, it was a well respected shop in town which to be fair, I will use again (calmed down a bit now). The shop staff are wonderful but rarely the mechanics can be a bit... difficult! I was just a bit weeed of earlier as I walked into town with the bike and I'm still recovering from a dislocated knee and I didn't feel they were up to their usual helpful standard.

I normally go to Condor (I ride or walk past it every day) but as the bike is in Cambridge and stuck in the little ring that isn't such an easy option :(
  • bern - picked up the new potenza yesterday. ta very much for sorting out the brake cable brazeons, it looks the bollox. haven't had chance to stretch its legs yet though, as i'm recovering from flu.

i've noticed there are no screw stops in the paul track ends (looks like they wouldn't fit as the axle is fully forward in the dropouts). are they lying around in the workshop somewhere? they'd come in handy when i lose a couple of teeth on the cog in the spring.

    cheers

Hi Pistonbrew, sorry passed the info to Greg that the dropout adjusters have been seperately by post to us and should turn up in the next couple of days. Unfortunately he had to go home as he was unwell and was not there to see you when you collected. I will pass them all on so someone at the shop can contact anyhone without adjusters so far. Glad to know you like it. Get well soon.
