On each monthly entry, those who want to, could put "C" followed by the number of consecutive centuries that month brings up

I've just edited mine as an example

    What do peeps think?

  • Question-How many points are you aiming for, say till the end of December?
  • none, it's the metric challenge that has points.

    [:I]

    Nothing happened!!![:)]

Perhaps if Ken read the route he may agree that it is quite naff because it involved nothing more than riding to the local reservoir (about a 28 mile round trip) and then riding round the reservoir's perimter road (a very nice circuit of about 3.8 miles) enough times to register 100 miles!![:I] After about 7 laps I lost count of how many I did but kept on until my computer said I'd done in total about 65 miles and I really was losing focus so decided to ride towards home and then add a 22 mile 'round the houses' circuit I do when I only have an hour and a half to ride a bike type ride.

And the reason I did all this was because I was feeling really chunky as I had only been out on my bike once this year, on New Years Day, and that was a bit of a wet weather confidence minefield so wanted something flat, safe and sheltered from the predicted high winds and rain (which I mainly avoided except the hail shower and the torrential downpour in the dark).[:I]

Without being flippant, it'll set a standard to measure your better ones by-some of my more difficult/poor quality/unpleasant ones stick in my mind

I assume C37/48 means you've done 48 consecutive monthly centuries, 37 in the challenge? (and the shorthand suggested is OK?-go for it Jan)

  • At 50 miles today, having struggled down hill over Glen Eagles and riding into a headwind for 20 miles. I was giving serious thought (very very extremely serious !) to just turning around and going back exactly the same way.

Glad I didn't though :-) it turned into a nice loop.

And I did it in time to make the first page on the register too [:)]

I had a battle with the wind too yesterday - it turned into a bit of a slog at one stage, where I barely seemed able to get above 9 mph on even the gentlest of slopes. Somehow I convinced my self that I wasn't riding into the worst of the wind, and it would get even harder when I turned. Fortunaltely that was just in my head though...

Right - added my little claim to fame!
Well done, steveN for getting in (almost) at the last minute - that's my usual trick.

We seem to be well down on numbers this time, though - we had about 16 finishers last year, didn't we?
    cheers

Cheers - not a particularly inspiring route on an at best mediocre day, but I've been coughing and wheezing since the forum's Fife ride on Jan 6th. so just put a last minute banker in. Here's to the next 11..

It's been a fabulous day today. Who else took adavntage to do a century? I reckon it was the best day of the year so far. Tomorrow looks good too.

February is my hardest month to manage a century, so I'm pleased to suceed on the first weekend!

And boy am I glad I got the 100 in last weekend and don't have to go for it this weekend!
  • Right, i'm off out in 30 mins for part 2. Essex is looking damp but otherwise fine.
  • Well, I did it. Took me nearly 6 hours! It rained solidily for the first 4 hours then I punctured and discovered upon swapping the tube why valve extenders are made!

So had to patch the old tube and put that one back in. Was bloody freezing and on the verge of giving up. I was in the middle of nowhere and had 40k left.

I lost about an hour to all stops but was very slow due to conditions. It was so bad I saw only two other single cyclists and one club run all day.

I cycled 15k to a LBS and got some proper pressure in the tyres and had my first ever power bar. (do the givew any one else the squits, or is it just me? thankfully not until I got home!) Then it was either 10k the direct way home or 25K to complete.

Like Lance says, quitting is forever...so I kept on promising myself a cup of tea and bacon sarnie at high beech, it helped that by now I was warm again and I pushed on and completed the 100.

I'm so glad I did not quit. It is great to achieve something, even if it is only 100K. The bike is all clean and oiled, ready for nextr time, and I am having some pasta. Then it will be the shower for me before taking the in-laws to Heathrow.

Having ridden the cyclepath west from Ivybridge, I got onto the road at Tesco. Just before the petrol station a car pulled out from the give way at the TJ, turning R, while I was about 20 feet from it and going fast. He hadn't looked-unlikely not to have seen me if he had-I was brightly dressed

I braked and turned towards junction, my wheels locked and from what I can remember, I unclipped, folded the bike and hit the rear end of the car. I next remember being in the road

All the traffic stopped, and a couple of peds started to scream while I was still lying on the road. A girl in a car coming from the other direction got out and asked if I wanted a witness, and told the offending driver he was an idiot.

I don't know who called the ambulance, but it was there so quickly, I was still in the road, though standing up by then

The driver was a Polish welder-not been here long, but had the nerve to tell me that I should have been turning L! My fave Sigma jacket has a small hole in the elbow. The other damage, is a large dent in the rear panel of the car where I must have hit it with my shoulder

Eeek...well I'm glad you're ok. I've almost come a cropper at the Tesco turn off there myself...seems people are too keen to get to the shops than look out for traffic[B)]

Sorry to hear of your cycle/car interface Ken. I've almost been taken-out a few times at that very spot. I'm afraid car drivers are often in too much of a hurry and damn anyone else on the road.
We should make every car driver spend some time on a bicycle.
  • Hi Ken
Glad that you sound to be OK since your prang: impressed that you carried on to complete the final three miles!
    Take care

I have deleted my entry from the register as injury and illness have caused me to fall at the second hurdle this time. I have only managed to get out on the bike twice all month! [:(]

    Hoping for a better March!
