    Captain Phillips

The film is based on a true story about the American ship, Maersk Alabama hijacking in 2009 by Somalian pirates.

The main actor is Tom Hanks who is the Captain of the ship, brilliant acting from Hanks. I enjoyed this film about modern day piracy on the high seas.

What the pirates did was wrong and it was for the money but you also get to know a bit about why they were doing it.

Yeah, fantastic film. The climactic scene with the snipers was an incredible piece of cinema and brilliantly acted by Hanks.

  • Just been to see Conclave at the local cinema - excellent film, well paced and acted and very close to the book from what I remember. Recommended

I’ve just started watching this, Unfortunately I have to watch bits when I can without the Missus about due to her unpleasant dealings with the Catholic Church as a child. Anyway, I digress, great cast, Ralph Finnes one of my favourites, looking forward to seeing more.

Stand by Me - Somehow this had always been on my list but never seen until yesterday. What a great film and so well played by the young cast.

Gladiator II. Watched to see how bad it could be and it didn’t disappoint. Silly CGI, crap story, massive plot holes, weak leading man. Denzel Washington was good but otherwise very poor and pointless.

The order. Based on a true story. Grizzled F.B.I agent (played by the excellent Jude Law) looking for the quieter life in a small town, get drawn into a cat-and-mouse chase with a white supremacist cult led by the slightly unconvincing Nickolas Hoult. Set in the early 80’s with great cinematography and decent story for a solid watch. Few tweaks to cast /plot and really could have a been a belter.

Civil War on Prime. Most definitely not what most people will be expecting (as per reviews) and all the better for it.

Most enjoyable in my view although I suspect most will be disappointed as it's not a shoot 'em up action film.

As a side note, it is weird watching Kirsten Dunst as the older woman.

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Been watching the alternative Christmas movies on our streaming services.

Red One. So so. Good for a laugh. Nothing serious. Enjoyed the violent Snowmen.

Violent Night. Quite enjoyed this one. Drunken Santa played by David Habour as an ex Norwegian Warrior god. Now Santa. Lots of bloody violence with a big hammer. What's not to like?

    Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

I enjoyed Violent Night for what it was. Red One's potential was outmatched by it's failure imo.
