I did buy one of their jerseys a couple of years ago, but my issue then was that I was very slim at the time, and the small (They only make S, M & L) was not fitted enough for me - I'm a bit more tubby of recent so could likely fit into one, but if memory serves you are pretty light, so could be an issue for you.

I'm tempted to get a cargo jersey for long rides, where I can stash lots in all of the pockets, and not need the tailfin rear rack & bag, and or for family rides where I have to take loads of stuff for my daughter.

Reviews of most of their kit I have looked at on their site is glowing, plus some 3rd party press reviews, and of course MvdP on occasion wears their gloves, and overshoes, and possibly some other bits from time to time.

    Gotcha.

Yes I've (relatively speaking) bulked up to a massive 61kg due to swimming but thanks.

Spatz are the gold standard in overshoes, with their full length thick neoprene that look like wellies being the ultimate if you get cold feet.

The Shiftr jersey looks interesting - the same material as seamless base layers but in jersey form. I suspect it will be incredibly comfortable but given how stretchy the material is I reckon the pockets would sag like crazy. I would definitely give it a whirl for £40 had I not got stocked up like mad in the great Wiggle fire sale at the start of the year.

  • Probably not much demand on here, but just in case. Chicken Cycles have some huge discounts on Campag wheels; Bora, Hyperon, Shamal Carbon all going at 40-50% off RRP. If you buy through their ebay store you can also get another £40 off with a discount code. Just bagged a set of Shamal Carbon discs for £769 RRP is £1400.

So not a bargain spot, but I was wondering if anyone had views on where I might encounter a good deal on a Garmin 1040 in the upcoming black Friday thingamy due to happen in a couple of weeks I believe.

Last time I managed to get the 1030 (2 years ago now) from the now defunct CRC, for something around ~£280 after cashback, and this worked out at about 45% off RRP.

The 1050 is out now, and there doesn't seem to be that many 1040s around, so I presume the market is not overly flooded, like perhaps it was last time.

I'm not interested in the solar one, or all the accessories, just after the base unit - £375 seems to be achievable, but not from a UK site - yet.

A sh1t ton of decent companies are either gone, or are now owned by people I refuse to give my money too, so unless I go to Europe, my options seem pretty limited.

    Merlin - £514

    Sigma - £420

    Tredz - £460

    Garmin - £520

    Startfitness - £414

Are there any other retailers I have not considered that might be worth keeping an eye on?

I have spare unused screen protectors from the 1030 to apply to the 1040, but slightly frustratingly apparently the case for the 1040 is a bit bigger, and the protective silicone cases don't quite fit properly, so will need another one of those.

My plan is to give the 1030 to my brother who lives in Italy and bike tours all over the world, currently using his mobile and a small Bryton GPS - he has a komoot membership, so presume he could port routes off to the 1030 automatically, like I can through Strava.

On an unrelated note, and regarding another 'loss' of a load of shops and online presence, it had totally passed me by that Rutland Cycling has been acquired by Specialized 😐️ in 2022.

They used to sell a broad range of accessories, clothing and bikes, but clearly not now.

Bargain remote Cleva 3spd fan for only £75.

Suspect if you are a new customer you can likely sign up and knock a further 10% off that.

I was delighted when I bagged mine for £81 I think it was.

Thanks, yes spotted that this morning, when looking on the Sigma website, but still a little more than I want to pay, but very tempting.

Hoping something will come up at around the £350 - £370 mark.

Just over 2 years ago, CRC/Wiggle were selling the 1030 for £299.99, and even Garmin themselves dropped down to £299.99, they currently have it on for £510.

Not in any hurry, so will keep an eye and try and find a decent deal, I may go the TradeInn route as it's still £375 there, but would rather stick to a supplier in this country if at all possible.

Halfords Advanced 40 Piece 1/4" Socket Set with £10.50 off plus extra £5 off for free motoring membership brings it to £19.50 instead of £35. Nice.

Also Bosch Aerowipers set for my car at £17.99 instead of usual £28. Nice.

Needed new 1/4" socket set since mine dates back to 1986 and the ratchet failed sometime in the late 1990's.

    Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.
