Cheers Brian.
Hopefully autumn/winter season will bring some interesting photography.

Really good shots! 👏👏👏
The background, focus, depth of field and lighting all come together.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Thanks PB
I tried to capture a bit more of their structure/character by shooting upwards (mushroom upskirting), which made it slightly trickier, especially with brambles, a muddy floor and still no flip screen.

I must admit that the purchase of a new camera with a flip screen has made some shots so much easier. Not enough reason to buy on its own but marginal gains all add up. 😉

Oh, nice. Lucky you. The camera I was using for these was manufactured before livescreen, so just a picture on a screen would’ve been good.

Yeah, probably the last body I'll ever buy. I think we have reached peak digital cameras without moving into A.I.
If you can wait a few years (looks like you can) you'll pick up an old bargain as there will be nothing new in traditional photography.

Yesterday’s effort. Kite flying (I wish it was more noticeable).
I don’t really enjoy pointing a camera at strangers, so usually do so at a distance, hopefully remaining inconspicuous. I prefer any people to be somewhat unrecognisable in the image… basically a shit street photographer. Haze coming off the waves, strong reflections and pointing towards the sun, left virtually no colour, so B/W.
Not yesterday, but a similar vein. The bottom one was taken in the rain. I added plenty of grain in the edit.

Far stormier than I’d anticipated, but a pleasant sun trap once on the beach and out of the wind. I nearly didn’t take the shot of the rocks, as the sea looked extraordinarily bright, coupled with the high contrast shiny, black rocks. Underexposed, then lifted the shadows in edit, and it came out better than expected. Not a problem for @pblakeney's new camera with its vastly superior dynamic range.

I wouldn't be so sure about that dynamic range comment. 2024 release cameras have less dynamic range than those from 5 years ago. As I said before, I think we've reached peak digital cameras without A.I.

Not sure about dynamic range but a shot from today in keeping with the street photography in the landscape and no identifiable faces. PS - ISO 64,000 and no denoise. Not too shabby. 😎
Edit:- ISO 6,400 so not so impressive. Must go to Specsavers. 😂

Ha, I was using 2006 tech, so have to be mindful of highlights/shadows. I’m not well versed in camera specs, but heard somewhere on YT, the latest Hasselblad has 15 stops of DR, but at £15,000, it probably should.

Probably should. Latest chat is that the majors are sacrificing dynamic range for speed and video.
Hasselblad aren't interested in either.

It's what partly annoys me in my search for a sub-£400 point & shoot camera with few bells & whistles. I don't want to pay lots to cram a lot of stuff I'm not going to use into a smallish camera. I know I'm at the opposite end from the Hasselblad, but give me a decent lens and image chip, and some reliable onboard image processing, and that's all I want.

Thoughts about replacement heightened this afternoon when I accidentally flicked the camera out of my hand after taking this shot... landed smack bang on the extended lens, but apart from a tiny ding in the lens housing, and breaking off the little zoom knob around the shutter button (still enough there to zoom), all still seems to be working, at least for now. I really shouldn't be trusted with nice things.

A rugged version sounds like it might suit you. Olympus one is well regarded, but doubt you'd get anywhere near the zoom range you have with the Sony.

Just for giggles...

Yeah, trade-offs. That's only 4x, and the Sony is 30x optical with fab image stabilisation.
Might take luck with a second-hand back-up of the Sony from eBay, which seem to be under £200 for something in good condition. Given how many photos I take, and the amount of grief I give my cameras, I probably shouldn't moan.

Yeah, catering for vloggers which I don’t get. Surely they’d be better off with an actual video camera. I can’t imagine trying to do video on my DSLR (but then I also still use the viewfinder rather than the screen for handheld photography so maybe I’m a Luddite

Sorry, another one from yesterday. I didn’t really rate it yesterday, but with fresh eyes, I like the gloopy/foamy water ‘frozen’ in the foreground.

Looking like it might be good for aurora photos tonight.

aurorawatch.co.uk disagrees. But then their forecast only goes as far as now. 🤔

Going to be cloudy here overnight according to the BBC. Not sure why I still use the BBC for weather forecasting, it's pants.

Yeah it’s crap, only shows stuff as it’s happening. I follow a couple of people who read the stats and interpret them plus the Glendale app that gives all the data.

Prediction is that it could come around 8.30 to 9 but the stats are variable. Hoping it will be naked eye visible in the north but camera only further south

Good to know it's not just me misreading something again. 😉😂

Don't think I'll waste sleep time.
"Enhancements to the solar wind are possible overnight 26th into 27th Oct UTC, and again overnight 27th into 28th Oct. Any aurora is expected to be generally limited to the north of Scotland and similar geomagnetic latitudes however, with the early hours of the 28th having the greatest chance of more widely viable aurora."

There should be a burst around now. The two people I follow are really good at interpreting the data and both saying the same. I’ve just finished a concert so can’t get out.
