And a bit of a monster Coypu in our garden

I was hoping the skies might be a bit darker where I’m staying (Center Paris outside Paris) but a map suggests it’s Bortle 6. To add to the challenge I only have my phone and had to improvise a tripod using 2 mugs on a bridge parapet. A bit of editing in the mobile app version of Lightroom. Given all of that I was fairly pleased to manage to get a faint Milky Way shot (not sure how it will come out on here). Quite impressed by how sharp the phone gets the stars on a 30” exposure and hoping to try it in darker skies soon.

Apologies it's going to be French tat for several weeks. My diverted route home from the station was right into the middle of this photo. And no, the thunderstorm I could hear from the clouds didn't get anywhere near me, though I'd not have minded, as it was a rather warm walk.

Lightning like I’ve seen tonight, it’s been constant for at least 30 minutes with flashes every few seconds including forks but even on burst my phone can’t capture anything other than burst of light. I guess the shutter speed isn’t quick enough. Will see if I can adjust when I get off the bus as it’s still going. Something I’ve wanted to capture for ages but we get it so rarely at home.

Is there a video setting? I found that tended to judge the exposure of a night sky better.

Really dark sky here tonight with the Milky Way like a great big high street to the naked eye, but my Sony just isn't up to the job of capturing it no matter how much fiddling I do with the settings... far too many approximations going on the in the processing.

Yep I’ve done a video and hoping to isolate a frame. Will be easier on a laptop. Still going, it’s been getting on for two hours now and we’re right in the middle of it. We have the rain and thunder to go with it now.

Am slightly envious. I love a good thunderstorm.

Quick! Somebody tell RMT that's where the pot of gold is!
(Only kidding for the hard of thinking.)
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Alright stop showing off!
Sounds like it’s worth buying an SLR to keep over there

Best I could manage from that lightning storm the other night which is disappointing considering the opportunities it gave me. Photographing lightning is frustrating!

Lavender tat - surprised there's any left. But one of the benefits of getting to know a place extremely well is that you learn which directions to head in to increase likelihood of shots you want.

There's something blocking the nice view.
The trees. 😉

OK, here's one from yesterday's walk, if you want a nice tatty view, sans lavande.

Better than than Windows Vista.
Ha, yes, I knew it was a joke, but won't argue that the framing was less than ideal. Beggars can't be choosers for lavender in August.

More FTT (French tourist tat) - the first one taken on the move while I was (deliberately) on the wrong side of the road, to get this angle, and the second one a static one i panorama mode.

Sunset tat. Fortunately the evening storm petered out before it reached here... I'd just put out a load of laundry, thinking there was no chance of rain.

I asked a butterfly to guard my bike while I went for a quick post-ride dip in the river.

Was at a museum with some of the grandchildren today and it was quite interesting to see the camera display. These are all older than any of mine but my first camera, a hand-me-down Kodak Brownie was on the lower shelf.
What was most upsetting was the amount of museum pieces that I've owned. 🤬😂😂😂
