I can believe that, but I would believe it more if you gave me pricing for sports when resident in the US.

$139.99 /year

For all sports or just baseball?

Baseball

You can watch every county cricket game for free. Isn't that comparable? I just googled the cost of watching NFL games and it seems a bit like football. $520 plus a cable subscription.

Not sure its comparable . . . they play one hell of a lot of games in the US Baseball league (162 per team per season)

Meh, baseball is a minority sport.
NFL is the big one over there and it is also eye-wateringly expensive to watch it in the US.
Relatively cheap to watch it in the UK.
I think the move of most sports to a subscription only model is really a terrible social ill and I think it is to the credit of the Tour they keep it on free-to-air.

If you want to watch live football in the UK, there's 3 pay per view options Sky (26/month) Amazon (9/month) BT/TNT (30/month)
Even if you pay for them all you get a fraction of the live games that's significantly less than 100%

Sky is more expensive than that if you're only interested in sport. You have to have the base "entertainment" package as well before you can add the sport part. There is the option of NOW TV and it's fine if you can watch live, but a really poor catch option killed it for us.

That's true and I think eventually all games will be on TV.
0 -
Yup. I used rough Now TV prices

There are 14 county matches. Each match is six hours over four days. Therefore, there is 336 hours for each team less rained off/ finished early stuff. There are 18 teams, so 3,024 hours of viewing.
MLB has 30 teams playing 162 games which last 3 hours. So, 7,290 hours of viewing.
I'm intrigued how many of the 7,290 TailWindHome manages.

MLB is dying on its arse as far as tv viewership is concerned. Not surprised it is quite cheap.

One of things that I dislike about international football is that they have failed to realise that less is more. They have far too many matches with limited jeopardy. I wonder if baseball is the same.

Mrs TailWindHome raised the same question

Judging by how empty some of the MLB games are...possibly.
Otoh it's always a "nice" atmosphere whenever I've been.

Did you get to any of the games in London?

Baseball has had about that number of games per season for over a hundred years, so it's not that they've decided to milk it.
It's just not as popular as basketball or American Football any more.
Basketball has 30 teams playing 82 regular season matches each and does ok.

The Euro footy is a prime example of that. The old 4 groups of 4, top 2 in each group into quarters was good, with few meaningless group matches. Now, with 24 being whittled down to 16 in the group stages, teams have to work actively to avoid progressing. Though credit to Scotland for regularly pulling off the trick!
IIRC, England qualified for the knock out stages this year without actually playing, when another group's final round matches played the day before meant that England would still have one of the best third place finishers' results even if they lost their last game.

The qualifiers are also easier because 24 teams now qualify.

Yup. Was there for the Sat game & in Trafalgar Sq fan zone for the Sun.
Great day out. Highly recommend

Can it be fitted around baseball viewing? And has that curse thing been ended?
0 -
Yes. Due to time difference
No. Mayo still haven't won the football all-ireland though the shirt has passed hands

The NY Mets, who I've supported all my life since June, are about to play 23 games in 24 days
Lmfao, I'm getting a divorce

Really should be easier to edit posts on this piece of shite forum
Anyway here's the reply
"
No.
In a slightly tipsy moment having watched the Mets get battered on the Saturday of the London Series my wife and I agreed if they got to the World Series we'd go to NY to watch
They pulled of a unlikely win on the Sunday of the Series. A combination play that has apparently never finished a game before. Since then they've been on the best run in the history of the franchise and come from nowhere to be in the wild card spots
Darren Fletcher, who I really don't rate as a football commentator went viral calling the play. We talk a lot about commentary in Pro Race. This is top tier"

Here's the fuller, better version of the commentary I would have edited into the previous tweet
