Cars, cars, cars...

911 isn't a hatchback and doesn't have anything like the bootspace if you want the practicality Stevo mentioned in an impractical car.

It's better designed at the back and has better proportions overall than a 911. It is more analogous to that "entry level" Ferrari, but with a muscle car front end. If that was a bit more refined it would be improved.
I'd probably not hand one back *immediately* mind you, if I could afford one!

Yes but it looks like a Transformer, so it's not suitable for adults.
Ferrari Roma, that's the one I was thinking of.

lol because other fast cars are so grown up lol.
“quick put a spoiler on it and a massive grill so it looks like it’s from thunderbirds”
the childish nature of them is the whole point.

Good point, that as well.

Correct. It's also a status thing, obvs, which is why the Nissan - despite probably being better in many respects, isn't as desirable. Since we are talking about cars I can no longer afford, I don't feel strongly about it.

Good suggestion but for me personally they're a bit long in the tooth and I've done the 'Jap Crap' performance thing, having owned a Mitsubishi Evo 6. Don't get me wrong though, fantastic cars to drive and I enjoyed ragging mine round various circuits on track days.

Well now, here's Stevo admiring a LBGT car! Gone all woke? 😉

Close - its an MBGT car (Mercedes Benz amg GT) 🙂

Why has this thread been steered back around to a fugly AMG C63?
You would think it was the only car in the world worth having.

Because it's a car and this is the car thread?
PS it's a GT63 😉

Anyhow, went to a 'classic' car meet this morning where the definition of classic seems to be a bit broad. Loads of different stuff, here's a selection:

I'd forgotten the engine is further forward of the radiator in those Audis. A friend parked his in the front of a bus outside work, we were amazed he didn't need a radiator looking at the damage from outside. Then he opened the bonnet and we realised why. Still an expensive repair.

lol I read that merc is 2.1 tonnes, doesn’t come with ceramic brakes unless it’s the top spec and it’s so long and low it bottoms out all the time

I bet that NSX is a blast to drive if it still has the Senna DNA!
Doubt I’ll find out though.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

It definitely looked good. Had never seen one before in the metal.

You don't need ceramic anchors unless you're doing track days.
I think the 2.1 tonne weight is for the hybridised version which puts out over 800 bhp and 1400 Nm of torque to compensate. Seems to be more of a Grand Tourer/super daily driver than (say) a 911 or a Vantage.

If you have a car like that I'd want to be able to thrash it and not worry about brake fade, surely. 2.1 tonnes is a lot for a sports car.

Steel brakes are generally up to the job of 'spirited' road driving if sensibly specced. Track days are a different league in terms of braking intensity and frequency. In my experience at least.
Also decent steel brakes with good ventilation, metallic/semi metallic pads and dot 5 or specialist brake fluid can be very effective. Worked a treat in my old Evo 6 which I took on track regularly with slick tyres - and I was hard on the brakes.

Interesting anthropological study over lunch between a Car cafe and a moto cafe on each side of a crossroads somewhere in the west south downs...
Moto Cafe - hairy men, motorhead, greasy spoon food (well done though), rubbish coffee. sticky plastic booths, dirty toilets
Car Cafe - quiffs, turn of millennium house music, hipster food (not sampled), proper coffee, beautiful interior, toilets to nice to go No. 2 in
We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

About 2/3 the weight. But the brakes are proportionately smaller 320mm plays 390mm or 420mm. In terms of surface area and assuming the piston area is similarly sized, that's pretty proportionate. I don't think AMG are in the business of skimping on brakes given the type of cars they produce.

Who knew car designers know more about car design than the average punter?

Yeabut this is not 'Stevo's car'.

You're dead right there, that GT63 is not my car: I drive a C63 estate. Hopefully cars from the same manufacturer are OK for Judge Pinno? 😉

Stop being a tw@t. What I meant was, this is not Stevo's car thread. It's a general thread about cars and seemingly always seems to come back around to your car or your previous Mitsubishi. It's getting a bit tedious. Perhaps @briantrumpet could rename the thread 'Stevo's car'.

'It's not my thread but I'll post if I want to....' - sounds like a song? 😊
Feel free not to reply if you're not interested in what I post.
