"Probably I would need to go older to get something that ticks the looks box, and forego the air bag."
Nail on head I think. Classic, pretty, airbags. Pick two out of three. 😉
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.1 -
A Jaaag you say? Could be a good fit - depends what sort of bloke you are I suppose.

Alfa 156 GTA? I think they're better looking than the 159 as they don't have that huge front overhang. I had a twinspark and it was reliable all being Bosch engine management.

Mmm. I prefer the 159. Must have a multiple headlight fetish.
Test drove one back in the day. Drive shaft failed. Put me off. That and quality inside. And ergonomics. My arm doesn't join my body where the italians' do.

The GT is interesting. Pininfarina design. Alfa quality. But a V6 could be an option.

Thank god for a well-placed apostrophe. Crisis of imagery averted.

I've never watched that kind of movie, Brian. Other than Eyes Wide Shut, which did have a few images with above the normal density of limbs.

The rise of Mate Rimac.

Bought an ex demo 159 a few years ago in an attempt to tick the sensible family car box.
About 3 miles away from the garage, the timing belt broke: called them up and they didn't want to know as it was nearly home time.
Over time it redeemed itself but the front end felt heavy and crashy and the tyres became almost an annual service item. Was amazed to find when after 7 years we chopped it for a nissan that we didn't have to reserve 4 figures each year for maintenance.
Great looking car though.

The name is a bit pants but good car.

My 156 was more reliable than the dull as ditchwater Audi A4 that followed it. Although I did replace the cambelt myself when I bought it just in case. We had the lusso interior which I found comfortable, driving position wasn't classic Italian. Just as well as I am very much not Italian in build.

I've done enough track days to know that.

Bloody autonomous car drivers.

At least it's not a black car.

Hats off to GM for producing a monster like this:
Can't say American cars have really impressed me in any way before.

Probably only good in a straight line.
Another over powered unpractical clone box not built for roads. Looks rather like a Lamborghini.

I guess we'll find out once they let the motoring press loose on it. Probably would benefit from AWD given its putting then equivalent of a 911GT3 power and torque through each rear tyre...
Although they are going going selling them for something like $190k (just under £150k), which looks like a bit of a bargain, relatively speaking.

See in the front it has a vent coming through the bonnet akin to the 488 Pista (down force), obviously it's mid engined a step away from front Corvettes of old.
I expect they bought a Pista, stripped it down to learn/give it European handling.
One thing that surprises me is that supercar/hyper cars being released now haven't all got active DRS type rear wings akin to the GT3 RS. It seems such a good idea, looks cool too.

Looks like it generates some decent downforce on the version with the big fixed rear wing, though TBH you really only need that for track days. The road biased version with the rear lip is probably fine for most.
Looking forward to the road tests. Could be a massive bargain in 5+ years time and a massive middle finger salute to the upcoming leftiebollox 2030 ICE ban.

Yes that's true, it's not as though a bit of drag matters given the power.
Yeah, incredible price for the Yanks given the bhp. I guess with people like Mate Rimac making EV's with double the BHP they can't make incremental percentage increases now on ICE performance cars, they've got to push the Ekranoplan out. Crazy though, far too much power, let alone for the road. The Yanks are still into their quarter mile drag runs so it will suit them.
Meh, I'd be happy pootling around in a 2cv getting those angles.
Like a lot of technology I just find the evolution fascinating.

Yep the Rimac is phenomenal but out of reach of almost everyone. Whereas that Corvette is probably the first budget hypercar. I'll be interested to see how it handles.
Not sure if you've already seen it but if you want something truly amazing on the EV front, take a look at the McMurtry Speirling.

Stevo and Focuszing pretending to be car experts 🤣
Here's a little quiz for you both (without Googling the answer): Here's a picture of a bolt.
Tell me everything you can about the bolt.

It's an NB 8.8

So says Mr Expert 😉 What's a better use of your time: spending weeks on end trying to keep old rust buckets from falling apart, or buying a decent performance car and enjoying driving it ?

Yeah, you're a dim wit too.
seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
I'm not claiming to be an expert but (in your usual deflection), your lack of basic mechanical knowledge shines through yet you talk about AWD, active DRS and downforce.
seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
I know nothing about cars, I understand the 8.8 but no idea what the NB means.
Enlighten us Pinno.
