Default, not blanket.
The leader of Swansea council quoted in the BBC said that "he anticipated the changes to the policy could affect up to 10 roads in his own local authority."
I mean, that sounds like it's still going to be 20mph most places, but higher where there is justification for it.

Sure, but they had that in the first place as far as I'm aware. The Councils had the ability to request exemptions - some did a far better job of this than others. I'm on the boundary of three authorities (one Tory and two Labour) and two of them (one Tory and one Labour) have done a far better job than the other. Reviewing makes sense too but it needs a decent length of time to obtain data for that to be worthwhile.

Dunno anything about the shift, but is it more a case of nuancing the presentation that actual (practical) policy change?

Possibly although once it ends up more in the hands of Council and therefore the whim of Councillors seeking re-election I suspect things will end up being done with far less consideration of eveidence (based on a jaundiced view formed from having to deal with Councillors in respect of traffic calming schemes 30 years ago but also the way they ignore their own policies in respect of planning).

Apparently Angela Rayner had the temerity to buy a four-bedroom house in 2015, the Telegraph breathlessly reports. Lock her up!

Quite interesting if you think about it.Given that only one of her or her estranged hubby could claim the capital gains exemption on the sale of their previous homes, if she is in the clear then he is on the hook for tax on a much larger gain - which was used to partly buy this house. Could be that honest Ange's nice house was purchased with ill gotten gains 🙂
Anyhow, let's see if she is in the clear on the sale.of her house or not.

You know that's not true.

Given that she has three children, 4 bedrooms sounds pretty normal.

I think they need to give up on the CGT side, that's a dead duck. The electoral roll is a nothing. Nobody cares, there's no damage, she didn't try to vote twice and it can't be prosecuted.
Is there anything else in this story for the police to waste their time on?

Hypocrisy seems to be the biggest crime they are pushing for now. If you're a Labour politician you should be poor.

It's quite amusing that the best defence that people seem to be able muster for Rayner here is that these are minor offences (in their view). With the occasional bit of 'but, nasty Tories...'. Neither of which are actually a defence 😊

I'm pretty sure people are saying they are potentially not offences at all.

I think not having broken the CGT rules will prove quite a strong defence against the accusation of breaking the CGT rules.

Her or her husband? They cant both have the PPR exemption.
Anyway, lets see. There's plenty mileage in this yet.

Potentially.

nobody is saying they need both for it to be legal. Are you struggling with this?

Any paper that has run this story for weeks, yet brushed aside the actions of Menzies, Zahawi, Mone et al isn't a newspaper, it's just an arm of CCHQ propaganda.
If you're relying on the Telegraph as your main source of news these days you will end up with a very warped view of the world.
Very sad to see as I remember reading my mum's Telegraph as a kid one of my friends dads used to work for it. These days, it really is no better than the Express or the Mail.
Perhaps if it got sold to the Saudis it might have a slightly more objective view of the world.

Think it through. The CGT accusation was based on the first property. Mark Rayner never had any interest in the property she owned before their marriage.
I appreciate this must be disappointing.

He didn't answer the question though

Yeah cos he doesn't know! Heaven knows we need MPs to not opine on everything just because they've been asked about it. Stick to what you know seems sensible, no?
0 -
I was joking although the answer he was sent was a typical politician's response (with good reason as Labour need more information in order to formulate an actual plan). It feels like a no brainer to rescind it to me though.

You'll need explain what point you're trying to make there.

I know. See my post upthread or re-read it.

Not into Rayner calling Sunak a "pint sized loser". Just call him a weak, tetchy, loser, no need to bring his appearance into it.

She has probably had worse, but maybe better if she didn’t stoop to their levels.
